What is the worst county in Ireland?

Is it Co Mayo? - they actually lost a "which county is best?" poll in their own forum against.....Donegal:eek:

I speculated that this may be due to a lack of broadband in Mayo. But if they themselves think it then it must be true. Nice cliffs though.

Maybe we should leave Dublin out. It clearly is the best county amongst the dross of mediocrity out in country land so it's inclusion would be kind of unfair.:p

Naw... Mayo is an awesome county. Here are some reasons why:

1. Birthplace of the Land League - Captain Boycott incident, Michael Davitt born in Straide, Co Mayo.

2. Year of the French, 1798 - Humbert establishes the Republic of Connaught with Castlebar as the capital.

3. Magnificent scenery The cliffs at Croghaun, Achill are some of the highest sea cliffs in Europe.

3. The Céide Fields are the oldest known field system in the world, over 5500 years old.

4. Gráinne Ní Mháille

5. Ballintubber Abbey, built in 1216, is only church in Ireland still in daily use that was founded by an Irish king.

6. Two great Irish songs: Moonlight in Mayo and The Boys from the County Mayo. Another great song, Kilkelly Ireland, one of the saddest songs ever written, is based on actual letters from a Mayo farmer to his son in the US.

7. Admiral William Brown, founder of the Argentine navy, was from Mayo.

These are just some reasons why Mayo rocks.

For me, it's a toss up between Laois, Offaly or Longford.

As for Leitrim - it's got some really nice scenery, the Shannon river and I find the locals very welcoming as they're keen to get people to move there after having virtually no-one in the county for a century and a half.

All they do is play their fiddles and milk their cows while cutting the turf out in bogland.

Worst county has to be Tipperary. Tipp town for example is so backward its unreal. Their main nightclub ("The royal") looks like a cow shed. Its also littered with scumbags, 10 times worse than Limerick!

Worst city had to be Cork. Just has a depressing atmosphere and the accent is dire

This is sheer sizeism and bullying. That is the only possible reason that Louth hasn't got a mention. Yes it's the smallest county in Ireland but imho acre for acre it punches well above it's weight and while I would not like to say anything in favour of Longford,Offaly etc. (all notable sh1tholes and none without their particular charms) none can boast a centre of excellence like Dundalk.

Hell yea! C'mon da town!? - although Drogheda people may disagree (who cares their from Meath anyway!)

I reckon Leitrim isn't much use, never met a person from there, never met a person who met a person from there even..

Waterford is Deise Country & one of my favs!
