I mean. UCD does? The Energy Institute acts as a intermediary for several funding bodies, including SFI, the Government, the EU, SEAI, and several industry bodies.
Have you any reason from actually reading the article that they are unduly influenced by any one of the above?
From what I can see everyone involved in the UCD Energy Institute has skin in the renewable energy game.

The point is they didn’t look very hard.
The board of the UCD Energy Institute has members from: ESB Networks (Infrastructure), RWE Offshore (Wind), EirGrid (Infrastructure), SSE Renewables (Wind/Solar), EPRI (Grid and generation systems Research), Gas Networks Ireland (Gas), Greenlink (Infrastructure).
Two renewables seats and one gas, but 2:1 renewables to gas is exactly the fuel mix we had over the last 24 hours on the grid (65.2% renewable, 32.4% gas, 2.4% import and other).
The divil be in the detail unfortunately. Given the exclusion distances posted recently it would be very uneconomical to run all the waste heat as district heating. And their wouldn't be demand for it half the year.
Any links to sewage plants using nuclear waste heat? Again with the exclusion distances sewage plants would be nowhere near an NPP.
Also keep in mind that NPP generates the heat, adding heat to the environment whether it is used for home heating or not. Industry and housing stock using heat pumps don't add heat to the environment they move it from the environment into house, not generate heat. Very important distinction.

Toronto Canada population 4.5 million is Pickering NPP is 30 Km from downtown. Busan South Korea their second largest city where there are 3.5 million living within a 35km radius of Kobi NPP. India 8 million within a 30km radius of their Tarapur NPP. France Nogent NPP is 90 Km from Notre Dame. China`s Haiyang NPP provides heat for to surrounding cities and Haiyang is the first carbon free nuclear heated city.Russia and Eastern European countries have been using that it for decades for municipal heating. Switzerland has been doing it for at least two decades from their Beznau NPP heating tens thousands of homes with via a 99km pipeline, and they also supply it to industrial factories.
It`s not just district heating it can be used for. Some even use it for water desalinization, and it is used in greenhouses for year round vegetable farming. Holland do that at present for their year round growth of flowers, vegetables, fruits and herb - exports worth €24 billion - using gas.
Water desalinisation isn’t ever going to be something we need here given our rainfall levels, but greenhouses for produce are an interesting way of using this heat. However, there’s the image problem of trying to sell fresh produce once customers find out it was grown near a nuclear power plant and heated with—gasp!—“nuclear” heat!
(Lets ignore that some types of produce are deliberately irradiated after picking to kill bacteria or preserve shelf-life)
Exclusion zones are sometimes enforced by design practice and geography: the best location for a NPP is on an island or peninsula with a lot of water available for cooling. Any location like this that isn’t already a population centre will tend to be geographically isolated simply because if it wasn’t, it would already have people living there.
We have no end of rainfall, but two dry days and Uisce Eireann are warning about water shortages and are no looking at piping water from the Shannon to Dublin. So other than desalinination for the production of green hydrogen they would most likely throw a hissy fit.
If the price was right they would soon get over the image problem.
Moneypoint is probably the best suited here. No problem with water, unless Uisce Eireann drain the Shannon, and no line transmission problems to our three largest cities Dublin Cork and Limerick.

That radioactive wasteland called Japan whom recently restarted a bunch of reactors is extending life of more to 60 years and beyond and also building new ones
Rather than nuclear, what about hydrogen fuel cells as an alternative? Hydrogen is the most abundant source about, although today the methods for extraction are expensive.
Burning hydrogen is probably the cleanest form of energy generation (H2O), whereas the waste byproducts of nuclear are a concern. Building hydrogen infrastructure would be expensive and time consuming for Ireland, but so would be nuclear.
If a more efficient and affordable hydrogen extraction method were invented, are there any concerns that the fossil fuel industry may buy and shelve the invention?
As a side note, our little university town is currently in the process of replacing all their diesel and electric buses with hydrogen fuel cell buses. They recently bought 5 hydrogen buses, but have been temporarily delayed in their implementation due to the ongoing construction of fuel and maintenance infrastructure.

hydrogen vehicles use 3 times the amount of electricity. They must be getting them cheap. Places are ditching them and replacing them with electric busses. I’d seriously question the credibility of whoever signed that off

Uzbekistan a country with a 1/6th our gdp and 5x our population building nuclear now
Presently ~85% of desalination plants world wide operate using reverse osmosis. Of the rest, practically all of them are by thermal desalinisation using heat generated by thermal power plants
Over 90% of new plants presently under construction are reverse osmosis plants. Of the reverse osmosis plants currently in operation, only 1% use renewables according to IRENA.
As well as the heat from thermal generating power plants, for all intents and purposes 100% of the worlds desalinisation is by grid powered electricity.

Not at all but if a country with 6x less gdp and 5x the population (aka dirt poor) can do it so can we

have you? There is still a lot of denial that the current path we gone down resulted in having one of dirtier and the most expensive electricity in Europe
And we are only gonna make it worse instead of examining the root causes and looking into green clean cheap alternatives like nuclear
And I’m still waiting on the final costings of the current daft path which never gets is to net zero
You've posted it half a dozen times across several threads.
The plan for now is incrementally increase our wind generation, bringing us in line with the UK, whilst encouraging solar panel uptake by residential consumers to bring down costs.
I've asked yourself and your colleague @charlie14 what Nuclear Power Plant you would suggest building in Ireland that would be suitable for our grid at present and would get us closer to Net Zero in the next 30 years? Any ideas?
