Happy Friday folks. Have a chuckle at a Russian oligarch getting his arse handed to himself.
Russian IT Executive's Bankruptcy Raises Pressure on Debt-Laden Fplus Group - The Moscow Times
Ilham Omar was the only democrat to vote against the Ukrainian supporter act. Even a few republicans voted for it. What's her problem?

Then again this clown confused WW2 with WW11.
Id say your right. But this is also part of some much bigger plan
Next Russian step. Predictable but what's the counter to it?
Having looked at the first vid I was going to ask why the drones target the tanker superstructure and not the hull.
But having watched the 2nd vid I can see that that not all drones are equal and these are more akin to V1 than a DJI Mavic. That will take a long time to fix.
Maybe the damage from destroying the control room takes longer to fix then a hole in the hull. A lot of big ships have compartments inside and if one fills with water but the control room isn't damaged it'll just sail off?
Possibly also taking out captain/ critical crew on the bridge? Making it harder for Russia to entice people to crew the ships in the first place?
Blow up the road … or bridge. And then the construction vehicles brought in to fix it.
I've had a slight re-think about the Crimea situation: there must surely be someone in the Ukrainian psy-ops team planning the widespread raising of Ukrainian flags on Crimean soil. Purely symbolic, of course, but the kind of thing that would drive Putin up the walls - especially if was taking longer and longer to get them taken down. Imagine a tourist trekking all the way from Moscow to the beaches of Crimea (coz they're still coming … Why ??? do they not watch the news in Moscow? … Oh, right, yeah … ) to be greeted by a host of Ukrainian flags fluttering along the sea-front.
Us ‘armchair experts’ cannot even second guess Ukr’s second, third , fourth, etc, etc. move and the reasons for same. I’m sure that Ukr has a detailed plan knowing where Ru’s weaknesses and strengths are and depending on daily incoming intelligence that it updates that plan daily. I’d say rather than it going for the kill - like it tried to do in a counter offensive in 2023- and achieve it ‘s ultimate in the shortterm that UKR has decided to the the ‘tourist’ route, part of the consideration here would include the following:-
(1) outcome of US mid terms
(2) outcome of next US presidential election
(3) perscreption time in Ru when it I’d heavily recruiting in the Moscow and St Petersburg areas
(4) how ‘satisfied’ UKr is - in the short term at least- of the increasing level of deaths per week on the Ru side
(5) How satisfied. Ukr is with the area of land being recaptured back from the Ru’s. On a weekly basis
(6) the level of negative impact, if and, Ukr hitting Ru transport/infrastructure and used to supply the front lines behind the lines
(7) the economic significance, or otherwise, of the Ukr attacks on Russian economic assets that are critical to national income eg re oil and gas production assets for exporting and domestic use
(7)/intelligance Ukr is getting, if any, on the possibility of a coup , popular uprising, etc, etc, etc.
(8) Intelligence Ukr is getting, if any, on muttering on one or more republics ‘thinking ‘ about going independant - a major headache for Putin if one or a number tried it . Where would he even get the tanks, soldiers, etc.?
(9) UKr plans, if any, to reach further into western Ru to further damage infrastructure there
(10 ALL OF THE ABOVE must be seen in the light of the type and amount of assistance Ru might receive from China, NK , India , and a number of other countries via trading, loans/ gifts of cash, supply of soldiers/arms, etc.
(11) And of course, all of the above must be seen in the light of what support Uke expects to get from the Colissionof the Willing and others and its own capacity to develop / manufacture arm, etc, etc.
I am sure that the UKranians have their drones programmed to observe theat “if nothing moves and nothing jumps then that target is NOT a DUCK so move on to the next potential target”
Easy peasy

Poland is in favor of proposals to exclude military age Ukrainians from receiving temporary protection status in the EU, Polish Deputy Interior Minister Maciej Duszczyk has said. EU rules grant Ukrainian war refugees the right to live, work and go to school across the bloc. These protection measures are temporary, however, and must be periodically renewed, with the current provisions set to expire in March 2027.
Was watching Michael Clarke's analysis on YT yday and he suggested the Ukraine may be looking to push Russian casualty rates as high as possible at the moment. He suggested they may have a target rate as high as 50,000/m in order to starve Russia of manpower as they could not replenish their forces fast enough to replace the losses. Putin could be forced into a politically bad forced mobilisation that would be highly unpopular.
Those numbers are mind-boggling, but not for a cnut like Putin.
Just in case any of our tankie/vatnik friends show up talking about negotiations or peace deals. Or claiming that Zelensky is a psychopath and just as bad as Putin. Here we have it.
Zelensky offers ceasefire and direct negotiations. Putin rejects, again.
Putin is very obviously the only blockage in this equation to a lasting peace. The little blood-soaked warmonger.
Well I don't believe Z's letter is meant to be taken literally, he knows Putin will reject it. It's the subtext that matters. For example one subtle message could be for the Russian people: Look, this sociopathic dwarf wants to keep you in poverty and despair by prolonging the war. It is really a dig at Putin.
Just in response to your opening line.
Bang on the money, we've always said "Ukraine/the West should do x,y,z" but at the end of the day Ukraine are doing what they think is best to survive.
A good example, while we were all calling for Taurus missiles etc Ukraine was quietly plotting operating spider web, the truck bomb on the Crimean bridge etc etc.
This should be an EU wide policy.
Also Clarke saying the war is now affecting the big cities like Moscow and St.Petersburg. Apparently Putin ordered Russian banks to give all their spare credit to pay for the war effort. This leaves hardly anything for the private sector.
Note that in Russia state owned banks eg Gazprombank are the biggest players.

That was the point of the letter, no?
Change it or stop recognising it.
Looking forward to Trumps response apology for Putins rejection later today.
would Ukraine actually want a ceasefire at present?? They seem to be somewhat getting the upper hand. This way they have called putins bluff, knowing he would never agree to talks. The main issue for Ukraine is missile attacks on cities plus some manpower issues. But their medium range strikes are working a treat.
I have a feeling no. They wanted one a while back when Russia were making fairly decent advances and it's why they pushed hard for one.
The momentum has definitely changed and if it continues they'll probably not want one but I can see them publicly calling for it regardless for good optics.
It's a central pillar of international law and one of your fundamental human rights. Nobody is changing it.
I think they would talk seriously about it if Russia was prepared to offer some real guarantees and/or concessions. The problem with Putin is he's a total zero-sum man. If he thinks he's winning, there is no question of any kind of compromise because he doesn't see any inherent value in the lives of his soldiers. They're just another resource. It's only when he thinks he's losing to a degree that it places him in some kind of jeopardy that he suddenly becomes amenable to a real agreement. This forces Ukraine to press the issue until Putin is put in that position, and it would appear things are moving in that direction at the moment.
The Friday chuckles just keep coming:
A ship linked to stolen grain from occupied Ukraine was seized in Sweden. A court says Kyiv can have it. - Euromaidan Press
I think they probably do. They effectively have no electrical production capacity left that isn't nuclear and they won't be replacing what's gone by next winter. Things were pretty bad towards the end of last winter, I hate to imagine what the next will be like given the starting position will be very bad.

Putins response to open letter obviously wants a wider war this is testing the west 2nd time this week
