Hoping a New Thread may fix the posting issues.
Fingers crossed so
Slot should 100% be relieved of his duties, but looks like FSG are going to double down.
Personally, I would have removed him in Q4 25, but I can see that removing a PL winning manager during the following season was a difficult decision.
The problem now is that Liverpool no longer look as attractive a proposition for an incoming manager (regressing hugely even since Q4 25).
The squad is paper thin as it stands, not accounting for all the players who will now leave. There is a massive rebuild required. We need multiple new first team players as well as multiple new squad players. Depressing.
My entire point, which I think you actually agree with, is that one seasons performance does not, as your original post stated, mean the next season will be the same.
If you'd written "Sticking with Slot next season and expecting anything different than what we've seen this season is the definition of madness." in May 2025 you'd have been in for a serious shock with what followed.
Writing the same now, as a predictor of next season, is equally pointless.
If FSG stick with Slot it's because they have made an informed decision to do so and they have a lot more info to base that dcision on than we do as fans.
Starting the 26/27 season
I'd actually be fairly optimistic for 26/27.
People rightly question Slot's credentials given some of the performances this season but just as one good season doesn't define a manager, neither does one bad season and whatever criteria in Slot's managerial experience prior to joining Liverpool attracted FSG to hire him that CV has been updated with one PL win and one CL qualifying in a year of many challenges and poor performances.
If, as I've suspected from day one, FSG double down on Slot I really hope all Liverpool fans get behind him.
He hasn't had one entire good season though. This is a point you unfortunately repeatedly ignore.
He won the league last year but we were very poor at the end of the season, we won the league thanks to how good we were early in the season and how poor City and Arsenal were.
Many people WERE questioning Slot in May 2025. Many people WERE pointing out his poor use of the squad was worrying. Many people WERE pointing out the obvious dip in our performances.
Turns out, these people were bang on the money. The notion that this season was completely unforeseen is just not true.
BTW you trying to call out qualify for the CL this year as something that strengthens Slot's CV is equal parts hilarious and embarrassing.
Biggest issue Slot has is that one or two defeats next season in sept would have the fans on his back straight away. Its not tenable.
The first sniff of the same dross and he will be gone. Its inevitable imo.
That's all largely true except for one thing, the Jota tragedy. Its almost impossible to know how much it affected this season but you can't assess the season just gone without factoring that into everything.
What we need is someone with charisma and disipline to get the lads working again, the rot is much deeper than needing a set piece coach flapping his arms around at the sniff of a corner.
If Slot comes back from this (and i hope he does) it will be the biggest turnaround since Instanbull 2005!
I watched the game yesterday up until the two lads were subbed off, as soon as they left the pitch i turned on the F1, it's so hard to watch this team right now.
You'd swear we were sh*t in the latter half of last season. Look at the league results. We won the league with 4 games to go. In the 10 games preceding the last 4, we won 8, drew 1, and lost 1. After WINNING THE LEAGUE, we lost away to Chelsea who were fighting for CL and drew to Arsenal who finished 2nd in the league. As for the last 2 matches, what were we playing for at that point. Were people really questioning him in May? He'd just won the league in his first season. I don't even recall squad rotation being a concern at any point (even Endo was used well to close out games). Point is, the pattern of performances this season didn't start last season. If anything we started this season with the fight and desire we all want and expect from the side. It's not a leap to put Jota's death + CB debacle + Salah's demise + key injuries to RB and FWD together and get a hint at where the wheels came off.
I do 100% agree though that Slot did himself no favours by his handling of the few squad options available. Endo and Chiesa were so badly used (or rather not used) this season that is beggars belief. Outside of those two though, who was he leaving out? IMO, the squad just turned into a collective mess after gameweek 6. How much of that can be put down to players starting the season playing for their friend and eventually they broke? How much can be put down to the opposition figuring out how to counter Slot's tactics? How much is it players burning out from years of high intensity under Klopp and then Slot? The injuries then compounding it all.
If Slot is to stay and his right hand man is joining his staff, I think we the fans need to give him the benefit of the doubt. For now, CL football is secured for another season. As much as this season has been a blemish on him, last season was majestic. Let's see where he goes from here.
So the discrepancy in colour yesterday was also a feature of the original kit back in 89/90.
Apparently it's an effect of the pattern on the jerseys colour. So we can expect it to look like that next season too!
Squad rotation was a concern at that point. It was actively discussed on that thread at the time. Yes people were questioning him.
Using results to say we weren't bad is just ignoring reality. It's like the people who were ignoring our play for the first 5 games of the season. Yes, we were winning, but we were not playing well.
BTW you say the squad turned to a collective mess after game week 6? No it didn't. We were rubbish for game week 1-5 this season as well, we just dug out results. We stopped digging ourselves out of a hole, that's all that changed.
Our standard of play noticeably dropped at the end of last season. This is undeniable.
Benefit of the doubt?
Presiding over our worst run in 7 decades?
Worse than Roy. Worse than Brendan.
Spent half a billion to turn Champions into a lucky to get 5th place rag tag bunch of misfits.
And worst of all, serving up the most horrific, painful to watch borefests the club has ever seen.
I think he's had plenty of benefits and there's no doubt he should be gone.
Somehow looks less crap in this photo, but the kit as a whole looked awful yesterday.
they fit my exact style
Honestly I don't recall much noise about squad rotation… or about him as a manager and to top it off we were winning and running away with the league. I don't doubt some people were on about it though. There's always something to pick apart. Every other team in the league would have killed to have our problems last season.
On "using results". You think Arsenal fans care about how they played this season to win the league? We didn't either, and IMO last season we were playing well while winning. Some of the steam was starting to go in the last 10 games, sure, but we dug in and got the job done. You don't always have to win pretty, especially towards the end of the season as it takes it's toll. 3 points is 3 points. And that is what we were doing at the start of the season. Digging in, getting the results, not being pushovers, all while introducing 4/5 new players. Then… something broke. The Palace loss, ok not to despair, just a blip, but then Alisson is out for 5/6 games and we just go on a terrible run of results. Frimpong and Isak were in and out of injury at that time too. Whatever it was, we just lost our fight after that run of 4 losses, not helped by Salah's outburst following it. Whatever about the injuries and Salah's demise, the rest of the squad just weren't fighting to the end. I totted it up before (and posted here) about how many points we dropped to 90+ minute goals. That shouldn't be happening. As I said, the squad turned into a collective mess around game week 6/7. The mentality in the side this year is not what it was last year. That didn't start last season, we were on a high last season and in party mode for the last 4 games. It started with Jota's death. I think they fought through it (because of it) in those first 5 games this season but you can see it since then, all season, there's no fight there. No bodies on the line. Second to the ball every time.
If he's to be manager next season yes. This season is done. On to the next. There's 4 competitions to play for. Get behind him.
I think it would look better with the trefoil.
I'm the same in so far as I'll give him every chance to succeed next season if he's still there.
But the odds are really stacked against him. Turning this level of fan unrest around is unprecedented as far as I can remember.
You seriously overestimate the importance or effect of "fans on his back" to either Slot or FSG. What effect has it had so far? None apparently*
There is such a sense of entitlement amongst a large cohort of Liverpool fans these days unfortunately where are little as one defeat in September would, apparently, be cause for fans to be on the managers back.
YNWA eh?
*Subject to correction when Slot is replaced by Iraola next week :-)
Im not saying its right but i am confident its what will happen.
You have to be a realist. Not an idealist.
Fans are fickle, with goldfish memories… get in a few shiny new players and start the season with a few wins and everything'll be all rosey in the garden.
All that really matters to me is how the relationship is between the manager and players… if they're still fully behind him, then it can work. If they're not, it can't. IMO that's what the bedrock of the managerial decision should be based on.
I sincerely hope you're wrong and FSG pull the plug on Slot long before the start of next season. How anyone can want Slot to stay after the football played by Liverpool this season is beyond me. It wasn't a case of going through a bad patch, the entire season was turgid, uninspiring, negative, tepid and backwards thinking. Liverpool is about winning, but also doing it with style and passion, something Slot was not able to do over the course of an entire season. Everything suggests he is not the leader we need to bring us back to where we belong.
You think Arsenal fans care about how they played this season to win the league?
This is completely different. Arsenal do not play football that's really exciting but Arsenal are rock solid in their approach and it is coherent. People are also willing to overlook bad football when you get sustained results.
Our style is just awful. It's not so much a style as a lack of anything at all. We are clueless. Don't confuse being clueless with playing unexciting football.
Nothing broke after week 5. It was already broken. Our luck just ran out.
You know what, it is absolutely incredible to me that there are people still throwing out this "entitled" word.
Does you sitting here excusing and showing a care-free attitude to the serious regression of this club make you feel superior to everyone else? As if you're a better supporter because us sliding backwards bothers you less? Do you think Arne Slot is going to read your comments on here and give you a pat on the back for being so eager to make excuses for him?
Imagine watching us this season and still thinking it's entitled to expect better. Mind boggling.
If fans get on his back next season it won't be because of one loss. Do you think we're idiots or something and are going to ignore the last year? If fans get on his back next season it's because we've been on a downward spiral since PSG beat us last year. Are you really going to sit here and pretend you can't see that?
All the main journos now going with a winger to replace Mo as the priority.
Diomande is high on the wanted list followed by Barcola and Gordon.
Gordon name coming up again make me wonder will they wait for Munich to bid and then match that as Gordon would pick Liverpool.
Also naming that 16 year old German kid with the idea of loan him to a German team for two seasons.
That kid and Elliott to RB for Diomande would be a nice little sweetener. Also RB’s recorded of bringing young players through is top class
So you're both backing Slot for next season, but, also predicting Iraola next week, Which is it? Your Slot's biggest backer here, yet still have doubt if he'll be here next season. Why do you think the club might appoint Iraola?
are you deliberately ignoring the reasons that the season has gone to ****.
It’s not all slots fault
Taking into account our slide started long before the summer transfers and long before Jota, what exactly are the reasons our season has gone to ****?
Jota will forever be remembered as our Red number 20.
If the accident didn't happen though I think there was a high probability that he would have been sold last summer.
His injury record wasn't great and when he was fit, Diaz would still be picked as the 9.
Ekitike may have even been signed as his replacement.
I think the accident is being used by some as a get out of jail card to excuse what for me at times this season was complete unprofessionalism from players and the management team.
If I was Jota I would want these players to use my memory to run themselves in to the ground in pursuit of glory to honour my name.
Not use it as an excuse to decide to not give a fxxk and let fans and the club down.
I think that's a bit of a simplistic take on grief though… maybe in the longer run that can be a motivator, but in the immediate aftermath it's a lot more palpable, and hard to use as any sort of 'fuel'. Everyone's different, but for me at least, the loss of my parents just caused(and continues to cause) total chaos with my nervous system.
Would hope the bit of a break away, and for many of them the World Cup, will allow some sort of reset so they can find some distance, after being fairly steeped in it continuously since it happened.
