Its not a case of as you say "people celebrating paying subscriptions on their cars" its more a case of some people (a large and growing number) being quite happy to pay for enhanced capabilities on their cars, that they clearly value …and that decision is now made a lot easier by introducing a monthly subscription model (cancelable contract) as opposed to a large/enormous upfront payment.
This pivot to subscription only model (as opposed to large upfront cash outlay) is not unassociated with the improvements in FSD software which is (as data shows) appealing/attractive to many, who find it easier to subscribe monthly than be able to afford (or wish to incur) a huge once off payment.
Seems good business sense to me and monitises a stream of revenue that goes straight to the bottom line. It also establishes proof of concept and demand within the market, which may well open up more revenue streams through licensing Tesla's technology to other car manufacturers (have avoided any mention of Lidar and(or) Camera to just address the factual based enthusiasm for subscription model). Of course this is not for everyone…but some want it and will pay.
What will you do this year when your free BYD data plan is up? Will you pay that subscription?
People defend what they’ve bought, and try to justify the large sums of money they’ve spent on products, you do the same.
BYD radio craps itself, you ask “who uses FM radio anyway”. That’s life. You’re willing to forgive some short comings on the car you’ve bought, which is your right. But then jump down the throat of others that forgive short comings on their cars, Tesla or not. Seems hypocritical to me. That’s how it looks and comes across.
I won't no because I have all the features on android auto. It doesn't matter to me tbh.
Have you seen me out here defending paid subs on any brand ?
Who's jumping down throats ? I literally just said I find it very odd people celebrating a company having subscription models for stuff on their car, the world is cracked .. none of you would have talked positively let alone celebrated that ten years ago.
Why now ? These are harsh practices regardless of who does it.
Is it possible to block/ignore an entire thread?
The subscription model for constantly evolving and improving software is a well trodden path now it's hardly surprising
That's neither here nor there, none of us should be celebrating these models regardless of who is offering it up. We end up owning nothing.
My stance isn't actually even a controversial one it's fairly middle of the road. Even from posters here. LBH.
The good thing is Tesla's are really well specced as standard and you can completely ignore the fact fsd exists .
True but we weren't talking about that, were talking about the subscription models that manufacturers are pushing. It sucks for the consumer , any consumer.
Sure but everyone is pushing them it's the way the world is going and at least it's not a sub for hardware that's already in the car and disabled like heated seats or matrix headlights and instead it's a feature that's not standard on other cars that some people may be interested in,
Would I pay for it? No but I hate being a passenger anyway !
For now.
All these things are openers for revenue. once we thumbs up one. The doors ajar.
I don't see any celebrations for subscriptions, only positive talk on the self driving capability.
I agree that subs are not to be celebrated and i'm not a fan of them. I would much rather buy the product than rent a service and I don't sign up easily to a sub. FSD is an evolving SW with expanding service and can be likened to your TV or phone being able to function without subscription services, but being less useful products if deprived of subbed services.
Well someone earlier I can't recall was celebrating the Percentage volume of subscription increases from Tesla's latest earning calls, and then predicting the uptake of these subscriptions.
The next post then called out the negative side that they'd remove or deleted the ability to buy outright in may.
So id call that a positive view on the matter, which is what I was talking about.
Some interesting backgrounds on why FSD supervised in Europe took 18 months to get approved. RDW tested it in snow, fog and rain too. Article in Dutch but I'm sure Google translate will do a decent job
https://tweakers.net/reviews/14660/waarom-het-anderhalf-jaar-duurde-voordat-tesla-fsd-in-nederland-werd-goedgekeurd.html
I showed the increase to a poster who reckoned it was 90 percent from a 1 month trial (which is free anyway) didn't celebrate it , just stated the fact.
Which post are you referring to that celebrated the volume of subscriptions? I don't see any, but you or I could be reading the same thing and interpreting it differently.
This.
I can see how that would be seen as celebrating. But knowing @unkel, it's less of a celebration of people having to subscribe for a product/service and more of a vindication of the success of the product in the context it was written. I'm sure he can confirm, or correct this himself.
Yes exactly. People had been saying many times on this thread that FSD subs would be a failure. Well clearly it isn't but we'll see how it picks up over the next year or two
And let me be clear: it is only very recently that FSD supervised became as good as it is now. And can simply drive itself from A to B. It took many, many years to get there
Personally I own FSD and I have no TSLA shares. I am a cheapskate and allergic to any subs. It is that bad that for years I used to switch phone subs every time until I got in on the GoMo (Eir) €9.99 monthly unlimited everything offer. But if I had a HW4 car without FSD and FSD supervised was available, I would sub right away for €99 per month.
In your hoop you would. (No offense) But your not spending 1200 a year on that. I know how you like to do things yourself and you wouldn't place 1200 a year on that value thats complete waffle, at least give an honest assesment .
No. I actually would pay the €99 per month for FSD. What makes you so distrustful of people that you can't just take my word for it?
Unkel is probably the only person here who has taken a trip in a driverless Tesla
I just had to go over to France last year for a trip just to experience FSD supervised 😁
And it really was extraordinary. Now many of my friends in NL have it on their own cars for free (on the 30d trial) and they are telling me to come over, but obviously I have seen it already.
You're the consummate bargain hunter every vehicle you buy is near rock bottom.
On the face of it you're not the type of target audience for premium subscriptions. It's not distrust it's form. 😉
With the money I save from being frugal in most of my ways, I do stuff like buy an expensive watch or a classic car or go to a Michelin star restaurant occasionally
But that is not the issue. The issue is that I said I would do something and you are plainly calling me a liar. The issue is with you.
I will be subbing as soon as it's available for use in this country, at the very minimum to test it and see if I want to continue with it.
With the sub model I can dip in and dip out if and when I like.
No large upfront cost that can't be included in a value-addition when selling on (doesn't transfer).
This model will be successful for Tesla, especially in markets where subscribing to services is more mature than it is in this country.
No I said 'you will in your hoop'. If your not familiar with the term it's a jovial dublin term.
You've made your case, il follow a long your 100 quid a month journey with eagerness. 👍
Sorry what country is more familiar with subscribing to services than this country ?
There isn't a service that exists that isn't marketed here. 🧐🤔
You know well I own FSD outright on my car
Oh , so you won't be paying 100 a month then ? So what are you giving out to me about you not paying for the service ? This is highly confusing Sir.
You seem to not understand the meaning of your own words. You called me dishonest. That is the same as calling me a liar.
