Yeah I've been noticing it getting a lot of airtime recently, with very little (if any) substance provided by the people who claim it.

He was a member of Orban's party for over 20 years. He was married to the 'justice' minster until a few years ago.
He basically holds the same views as a younger Orban and if he got into power would very likely follow the same playbook.

He's a pro-EU anti corruption, conservative. I doubt very much he'll be draping himself in rainbow flags if he wins.
But as long as he's not a Russian vote in the EU while the war rages then he'll be a massive improvement. And everything we've seen of him so far suggests that's what he'll be.
If he were remotely as bad as Orban, Trump and Netanyahu wouldn't be endorsing Orban and Putrid wouldn't have sent his A team of election manipulators and be trying so very hard to get Orban reelected.
The only conspiracy theory that he is another Russian asset is that he hasn't been poisoned yet. Maybe it's been attempted and haven't heard but he's certainly been set upon by some of Orban's goons, avoiding injury only thanks to his own security.

There is a dilemma though that Ukraine is still reliant on Patriot systems to shoot down ballistic missiles.
Also Friedrich Merz has just ruled out sending long range Taurus missiles to Ukraine, arguing that Ukraine long range capabilities have increased. He also wishes to buy more German Taurus Neo missiles for Germany's own long range defence.
I strongly suspect he gave every encouragement to Trump to attack Iran, promising him some sort of stand-offish neutrality. I don't think the Russians really need the Iranians' drones any more (they produce them domestically) and everything else about this war has benefitted them mightily.
I guess Germany is preparing for war. Ireland should too as neutrality will be moot if not capable of being defended.
I think it's in Russias interests to distract the US from Ukraine, so that US arms sales are diverted to the war with Iran. There are reports today that the US may divert $700 million in PURL air defence funds for Ukraine to the war with Iran.
While direct US aid to Ukraine ended last March, PURL is about the US exporting air defences to NATO allies, who in turn can export them to Ukraine.
