How and where are you washing your electric car?

A bit scared of using a traditional car wash after reading the user manual- lots of warnings around high pressure washes and of course abrasive bristles which will of course do plenty of damage to any new car - Any dos and don’ts of washing electric cars appreciated, along with recommendations of washing outlets to use - there was a self serve hand washing outlet at a petrol station near me up to recently but they’ve unfortunately now installed an automatic washer

Wash an EV the same way youd wash an ICE car. I personally just handwash it myself with a wash mitt, bucket, shampoo and powerhose.

I’ll probably hand wash mine just cuz it’s new and I don’t want the paintwork all scratched - but apparently some car washes could be bad for my car depending on pressure of the jets - only going by what’s in the manual

we couldn’t give a monkeys about any of that stuff and the cars are fine. Usually wash at home but garage wash the odd time.

All the EVs i have ever owned have all bren through various types of car washes, automatic and by hand ones.

No damage done.

Unless it's an Ioniq 5 with matt paint finish, wash it like any other car.

Not particularly fussy about washing the car, but would never use a roller automatic wash.

I do coat car twice or three times yearly with Collinite 845 Insulator wax, car easier to wash and water beads nicely. Only got one minor stone chip after 4 years, whether the wax helps or not I am not sure, but paint looks great.

Traded car in yesterday, so will be a little more fussy with new car for a while.🙂

Take out the batteries and then its just like any car, the water will not damage it!

I got mine coated when I got it. Usually hand wash unless I'm not up to it in which case I'll use a car wash.

Much like any other car, hand wash with micro fibre mitt, though if you have flush door handles and boot button (like see EV's do), I make sure not to power hose anywhere near them.

Outside of going for an NCT the car is never washed. It's a pretty pointless and costly event.

Clean the headlamps if needed and potentially number plates if dirty. Pretty much all that's really needed on modern cars in our climate

Not many car washes available for a fiver these days.

I have neither the time, interest or necessity to wash outside of NCT or safety related requirements.

As regards how,I use a long handeled brush from Halfords and regarding where, usually in the driveway, but never in direct sunlight, and chamois off after suds are hosed away.

Washing cars is a completely pointless exercise and if done wrong is likely to cause some sort of damage. Fair enough if for safety related issues but otherwise damn near pointless.

I’ve taken a bit of stick from posters setting up this thread which I’ve ignored- but it’s this sort of comment that prompted me to set it up -thanks for posting - I see for the Smart cars a lot of comments online about dodgy flush door handles not working - what’s the issue with power hosing this area?

Try not washing your car for a few months, the outside really doesn't look that much more of a "dirtbox" than other cars on the road.

But fair enough, if people have the time and money and risk appetitey to wash their cars regularily that's fine too.
