According to a February 2026 report by Tim Shipman in The Spectator, British intelligence shared communications with U.S. officials indicating that senior Russian figures have been privately ridiculing Trump’s view that Vladimir Putin is interested in ending the war. A senior security source cited in the report said the material shows Russian officials consider Trump “naive” about Putin’s intentions and believe Moscow has no real desire to bring the conflict to a close.

Hopefully Orban will lose the election in April as per the polls. But the governments control of the Hungarian vote Orban has enfranchised abroad, especially in Romania (about 800,000 Hungarians live there) as well as in Slovakia is an issue some have raised. If there are irregularities especially on that, Article 7 should be imposed. I think it should have been imposed years ago.
Didn't the recent eu funding 90b, get the green light, even with Hungary opposing, so their just being side lined. Hungary plays games but when they corner themselves they do tend to back down. They need the EU, so are unlikely to shoot themselves.

They can suspend under Article 7, but just one supporting country would torpedo that. That would likely be Slovakia.

The worrying thing for Hungary is the ex-pats in Romania that have voting rights in Hungarian elections. This group are particularly loyal to Orban as he was the one who presided over them getting those rights.
