Nothing will convince me until I see videos of it navigating rural Irish roads.
I love my Tesla. Best car I've ever owned. It's criticism of Irish roads, not the car. I simply won't believe it until I see it.
I'd say rural Irish roads are many, many times easier for a FSD system compared to crazy European city centre traffic 😂
The FSD ride along demos in France and Germany this month have been extended by 3 months into next year. Already everywhere booked out. Switzerland and Denmark have been announced for Q1 2026. Who knows, they might do Ireland in a few years time 😁
I really don't get the hate, self driving is coming , Tesla may not be the last man standing in that regard but they have done more than most to drive this forward. Yes musk has over promised and under delivered but he has still delivered more than anyone else as regards self driving in cars you can actually go and buy.

What happened with Tesla was that they had the courage to throw away all the software twice before starting again with the current implementation plan and the 2024+ AI4 hardware finally has enough oomph and camera quality to accommodate it.
It really seems to work this time after about 5 years of hard work, and they have had the benefit of almost unlimited material to teach the AI how to drive under any conditions.
Yes they are. It's human nature to be afraid of progress. The vast majority of people are afraid of what changes might bring. They don't want to think about how a new situation might affect them. They are more comfortable to stick with what they have and what works for them. People just want to be like other people and are afraid to stick their head above the parapet. It is perfectly normal.
Thankfully there is a considerable minority who are not like this. If it weren't for them, we'd literally still be living in caves 😁
There's also an anti-Tesla undercurrent in the FSD commentary as well.
Not an anti-Musk undercurrent necessarily (that's fairly new in the broader scheme of things), but a very detectable disdain for the products, the company, and - more acutely recently - the buyers who choose their brand.
Definitely linked to the progression aspect mentioned above, but there's more to it at the same time.

You'll find that with most of the anti-Tesla posting, there is a strong anti-Musk link. Some people can't separate the two. You'll see the same posters in the Twitter thread. It's just died down a bit since Musks orbit around Trump has gone from Mercury to Mars.
Musk-aside there is an undercurrent of disdain, unrelated to CEO personally.

Not quite. The disdain comes mostly from folks that would never in a million years have bought anything remotely interesting.
Funny you mention that. The first post ever in this forum from 2010 iirc (obviously moved here later by the mods as the post preceeds this forum which only started in about 2014) is from a total and utter petrol head, expressing his admiration for the just announced Tesla Model S

claiming an anti-Tesla undercurrent in this thread is just lazy imho. We’re all car fans, we have that in common or we wouldn’t be here. It’s more like a growing indifference to the constant lying and stringing everyone along.
Tesla have talked about FSD for over a decade, and were no closer to seeing it in Ireland than a decade ago.
I’ve had an m3 years ago and loved it; we have 2 M3’s in my immediate family, recommended by me, and the current €37.4k M3H is the best value car for sale in Ireland imho, ICE or EV.
A decade on, we’re still years away from FSD being regulated for sale in Ireland in reality, and now Musk claims they’re going straight to level 4. thankfully the grown-ups at the regulator can remind him of his insurance liability with level 4.
And that’s before we add all the competitors FSD systems into the mix, and some of the bigger ones do level 2 better than Tesla.
Robotaxis are now driving around in Austin, with no occupants. Musk announced last week that this would happen in a few weeks time, I think I mentioned it here? For once he was pessimistic.
This is significant, as this is L4 autonomous driving by definition. Like Waymo. Straight to L4 indeed. Surely people are not still saying this won't happen? 🤗 Oh wait yeah people did, even just now!

Do you think that the first iteration of FSD in Ireland/EU will permit all occupants to be over the limit?
Or will it still require at least 1 sober license holder capable of taking over/being in charge? If an FSD car knocks down a pedestrian or is hit by another car, but the FSD occupant is ossified and 3 sheets to the wind, that's not exactly ideal.
L4 and L5 do not need anyone in the car to take over. The car is responsible at all times. So yes, you can be drunk and asleep in the boot of the car if you like 😂
When will this be available in Ireland? Who knows. We are always years behind anything new and we seem more reluctant than most when it comes to progress.
After spending some time on the roads over the weekend I'm prepared to say than often times the safest place for the driver would be in the boot, whether their car supports autonomic driving or not.
FSD means no steering wheel no driver insurance liability is to OEM not the owner or passengers.
This is why it won't happen any time soon
L4 and even L3 while the car is in control means the OEM is liable. This is already the case and has been for quite some time. Wake up! 😂
Just because the OEM is liable for damage/injuries/etc, doesn't preclude the govt initially legislating for at least 1 capable passenger.
An L driver can have insurance in their own name but legislation requires them to be accompanied and there are criteria for the accompanying person.
To be frank I'll be shocked if Ireland was going to be even on the first 50% of EU where it's approved. But it's coming to other EU countries and will be cool to experience it abroad on holidays in the future and maybe eventually over here too.
The govt can legislate what it wants. Yet if that L driver is bold and drives on their own, that same insurance is still valid for any third party claims / damage

While it's not "widely" available, it is still available. I don't see it being available at L4 or higher in Ireland before the end of 2027, but I hope I am wrong. This is not a vehicle problem, it's a legislative one.
I'd love to be proven wrong but I think this is not available before 2030 as I always said
To be clear, I would be happy to just to get the American standard L2 FSDs, i.e. happy to supervise. To be stuck with just the old Autosteer here from 2020 sucks.
