Well if anyone is looking for a reason not to vote for a “left wave” next election, they have it
Comments on Irish social media pages this morning are depressing. Apparently we're selling out the Irish people to pay for Ukraine. Have none of us learned from history? That to appease leads to the strengthening of the aggressor? Putin must be laughing this morning, a weak US because of trump and a weak European union( militarily).
This is not going to end well
In the history books this chapter will be called
The Historical Betrayal Of Ukraine
Ah no he should leave it, a funnyman like him could really kill with an adapted version of the old Carry on line
I once talked peace with a Sioux, but you can't trust them. One moment it was peace on, the next it was peace off.
True, he has made tremendous progress in English. This is the most minor and juvenile of quibbles.
Give him a break.
He could barely speak English a few years ago.
Zelensky is simply my hero, one of the most inspiring people in my lifetime, and Lord knows he has enough important things to do but I wish somebody would advise him on the pronunciation of ‘peace’ in English. The ‘e’ sounds too like an ‘i’ at the moment.
Talk about war profiteers.
Europe is embarrassing, Trump even more so. He's suppose to be the most powerful man on the planet, and Putin has him dancing like a little fat monkey on a string.
Europe needs to call Trump out, remind him he's the most powerful, not Putin.
There's a face that had plastic surgery on his cheeks.
I'm not sure if that's just a badly translated piece but there doesn't seem to be any ceasefire on the cards. That was ruled out by the Russians months ago. A ceasefire is just a temporary truce.
Or maybe he knows what the rest of us know that without iron clad security guarantees it will just be a ceasefire until Russia rearms and regroups to take more of Ukraine at a later date.
Mod: @slay55, do not post in this thread again.
I heard that. He was like a worm wriggling on a fishing line. He said something like "Ukraine has the right to defend itself .. but that doesn't mean I advocate it"
Reminded me of Stan in the Life of Brian, who wanted to be called Loretta and have the right to have babies, even if he couldn't actually. It's a strange concept of rights.
Seemingly Putin is telling the US delegation that they'll give 100 billion of Russia's european seized money to the US if they force the EU to give all 300 billion back to Russia first.
No wonder the talk of today is about money.
The Russians are scared shitless Ukraine is going to get that money and Russia itself in hoc to China and chinese citizens walking in visa free like it's their own country already. The most dangerous man alive, Kirill Dmitriev is begging the Trump for investment in Russia to counter the Chinese.
Trump and Europe have their once in a lifetime chance to let Russia rot now if they wish. Especially have the Putinists rot.
No agreement yet on how to sell out Ukraine and Europe.
The Finnish parliament had one MP who didn't applaud Zelenskyi either. He's since lost his seat and moved to Russia.

Honestly I'm surprised these statements came from the German side, rather than some of the US officials. But then again, I guess Germany has generally been somewhat cooler on Ukrainian support, when compared to likes of UK or France.
I still think these peace talks are simply too forced and nothing will come of it, but are public statements like this a sign that there is an underlying political expectation / pressure on Zelensky that marks a shift from where things were standing even just a year ago?
LOL
insert this is fine meme
So the fcking toss party People Before Profit refused to applaud Zelensky today- and there’s expectation of a “left wave” at the next election?😂
That party can go fck themselves- - off to Russia with them to pleasure Putin - that’s all they’re good for
Not sure it would be at all fair to depict Connolly as pro-Russia or pro-Putin though. She's never really said anything that would suggest she likes or admires Putin - there are others in Irish politics and the media who you couldn't say that about with confidence.
People knew what Connolly stood for, but still voted for her. People will say " we don't like her attitude to Ukaine, but….."
Only the price of a few bus shelters, they should give the rest away, the corruption and waste in this country is a disgrace.
Isn’t Putin a bona fide threat to Finland? The tabloids could do a lot worse than that.
The main purpose is to sell tabloids. Putin's picture is on the front page of Finnish tabloids almost daily (it was something like 260 out of 300 times in 2023).
Western governments' stance to Russia can be seen from things like increases in defense spending.
Neutrality is rarely absolute. Not being in a particular military alliance doesn’t mean we shouldn’t be aware of which countries pose the greatest threat to us. And let’s be clear, our neutrality means nothing to them.
Speaking of increased wear and tear…
One of the primary targets was the Beriev Taganrog Aviation Science and Technology Complex in Taganrog, Rostov region. This facility plays a central role in the repair, overhaul and modernization of some of russia's most valuable aircraft, including the Tu-95 strategic bomber and A-50 airborne early warning and control platform. According to preliminary information, a fire broke out inside a workshop responsible for the Tu-95 maintenance. Ukrainian officials noted that damage assessments are ongoing, but any disruption to this facility carries significant operational implications for the russian Aerospace Forces.

Putin is clearly trying to drive a wedge between the US and Europe, and cosy up to the US all the while, selling business opportunities to Trump to seal the deal.
Shortly before the US envoys arrived at the Kremlin, Mr Putin made clear that Moscow rejected European efforts to make an initial 28-point US proposal – which Ukraine and many European capitals saw as little more than a list of Russia’s maximalist demands – more amenable to Kyiv.
“Even when they try to make some changes to Trump’s proposals, we see clearly that all these changes are aimed at only one thing – blocking the entire peace process, putting forward demands that are absolutely unacceptable for Russia ... They have no peace agenda – they are on the side of war,” Mr Putin said.

The US administration is stupid enough to fall for it.
€ to Ukr in order to bring a ‘balance’ to the situation and help to even things out a bit!!!!!!!… so when the fighting continues both sides have similar no of soldiers , similar no of drones, etc, etc, etc. Irelands contribution is helping to bring about that situation and ‘then let them at it’ !,,,,,,,!,,,,
Small minority and we booted Kremlin Claire and Moscow Mick out of Europe for similar rhetoric. Paul Murphy got back in by the skin of his teeth. Hopefully they won't be so lucky next time. Irish people don't appreciate this crap.
I listened to that. PBP are far left nut jobs and should be ignored.
6-8 hours extra launch time gives the Ukrainians a nice heads up. 12-16 hours total flight time added for those ageing bombers. I'd rather operation spiderweb got them all but we'll take it.
