Time to call "House". We just filled a bingo card this afternoon.
No but I will turn a blind eye to your straw man argument.
Anyway looking at your other posters and your spreading of Russian propaganda about corruption like this post here I don't think you have anything valuable to add to the conversation.
The current conflict is probably one of the most clear cut examples since WWII of an invading nation being entirely in the wrong when it comes to moral standing in a war.
We are in an extremely rare situation where no amount of “ooo they were corrupt” or “ooo NATO expansion bad!” can gloss over what the Russians have actually done, are attempting to do, or more importantly; what they hope to do to Ukraine should they take it over. The Russians are in the wrong, and the Ukrainians cannot be blamed for wanting to defend themselves from this.
This is why Ireland is sending money, as well as any nation that values democracy.
My standing question for anyone who defends the Russians is this: Can you justify the bombing of innocent children in their homes, schools and hospitals? Only one of the warring nations is doing this…and it is the Russian Federation.
Cén fáth nach bhfuil tú ag labhairt Gaeilge má tá an méid sin imní agat faoin teanga?
Well you've certainly dazzled us with your impeccable logic and well thought out arguments. Are you sure you have to leave?
I’ll finish this here. My original point was that I don’t believe we should be providing money to Ukraine. There are many questions over where the money is going.
Ireland is neutral.
The other posts have been questions directed at me that was never part of my original post . there is a reason that Ukraine has been denied countless times to join NATO from
Humanitarian, LGBTQ issues etc
azov brigade for starters
Okay.
Crimea was Ukrainian. Whether or not they wanted to join whoever we don't know because Putin annexed the place. By force. Then held one of his famous fake referendums.
Donbas. At no point did any poll nor national vote ever indicate that the people of Donbas wanted to be invaded by Russia - but that's precisely what happened as engineered by Putin.
"Safe from the Ukrainian paramilitaries death squads operating their for decades"
I've heard every piece of utter nonsense you can imagine - and I've never even come across this.
I presume you have fact checked this and have a proper source?
You aren't just casually repeating something you read on some social media feed somewhere..
where is the backtracking?
I don’t precisely know. Crimea and Donbas has always been a contentious area of land
Except of course in 1991 when the Donbas voted roughly 90% in favour of Ukraine becoming independent.
Crimea, not as much at only 54% in favour, yet it's still a bigger majority than Brexit!!
As long as people are engaging they are serving their purpose…
yes, why not or nothing to either. Picking and choosing who you feel is good/right is not neutral
Ireland says too much on the world stage with no proper military, Not in NATO and supposedly neutral
Don't backtrack, your claim was that Russia partially invaded to protect 'their people'.
There is zero proof that Russian speaking people in the Donbas etc. were being persecuted or attacked by Ukraine. It's just like the lies that Ukrainians were shelling Donetsk causing thousands of dead civilians.
Ironically it's now Russia that is snatching people from those areas from the streets to send them to the front.
I’m not naming any names so I’m not attacking any particular poster but I suspect a certain poster has returned to the thread
Not at all but Ukraine have their own paramilitary butchers as well as Russia killing civilians
people on this thread calling me naive , Ukraine wasn’t allowed to join NATO on humanitarian reasons as well as corruption
Neutral means Ireland can make its own choices, it's not difficult to differentiate between right and wrong in this instance.
So we should give a murderous regime like Putin's equal funding?
Jesus **** wept. 'Ukrainian paramilitary death squads operating their (sic) for decades' ?
It's Russians who have butchered civilians in Bucha and Izyum, who shot down a civilian airplane, who consistently target schools/hospitals/…, abduct tens of thousands of children,…
You probably buy into the whole 'Ukrainian nazis!!!!!' nonsense too.
Oh Lord. You'll swallow anything won't you.
Russia simply land grabbing for their own economic advantage or wanting to make their people living there safe from the Ukrainian paramilitaries death squads operating their for decades.
my point is, nothing is ever as simple as Russia bad , Ukraine good.
Trump and his supporters like to sell the notion that the megarich make for better politicians because they don’t need anybody else’s money to win office and are also immune to such temptations while running the country. This has turned out not to be the case as the president has personally demonstrated. Likewise, Witkoff and Kushner are involved in peace negotiations which may yield shedloads of money for them and other oligarchs on both sides. It’s just the quantity that’s different from your regular pol. Brown envelopes simply do not suffice. Forget about the funny languages, the history, army sizes, missile strikes, child kidnapping, blah, blah, blah and whether Ukraine survives or not - there are big, beautiful deals to be made on oil, gas and those trendy rare earth metals.
Hopefully Filatov isn't given the free run of the country to travel about snooping around as Dr. Hempel was.
Contrary to popular belief the primacy of the English language over Irish in Ireland is not a long established trend which has absolutely nothing to do with Britain's role as Ireland's long time colonial master. If only it wouldn't take the thread off topic I'm sure that chap would be able to convince us with a detailed and well thought out and researched argument that this is a relatively recent phenomenon caused by immigrants and/or the act of providing humanitarian aid to Ukraine. 🤔
Ha ha ha. The only thing we're losing is the sanity of the small faction who have had their brains rotted by disinformation, most of it coming from outside the country as was revealed recently.
so we all turn a blind eye to the corruption at the start of the war , where money was being stolen and now a new scandal of 100m laundering claim?
just ludicrous to pay someone regardless with all this bad accounting going on
Yes officials have been implicated - Ukraine is tackling it's corruption issues. Whilst it's being invaded. We've had and have our fair share of corruption so we have some idea how difficult that is.
Putin's Russia, easily one of the most corrupt regimes in the world, plays this absurd act of being overly "concerned" about Ukrainian corruption as part of it's propaganda.
Interesting to see that being repeated here.
Considering the amount of public funds wasted in this country, and the staggering amount of money we've received over the decades from the EU, and considering how wealthy we've become from that aid - 125m is a paltry amount to go to a fellow European country that is genuinely fighting for it's survival.
No difference to WW2 in fairness.
Ireland isn't neutral especially when it comes to the Russian dictatorships invasion of Ukraine. We are very firmly on the side of free, open and democratic societies. We are just not in a military alliance.
Granny Weatherwax face more like 😂
In your opinion, how did this war start?
