"Those who would give up Essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety." - Benjamin Franklyn, 1775.
Russia has repteatedly invaded and annexed territory of its neighbouring countries. Based on it's preious behaviour, appeasement will only bring temporary safety.
"The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results."
The only way to stop Russia, is to stop Russia, anything else is only a brief respite until Russia regroups and repeats its aggression. The best way to lasting peace is to put Russia in a place where it cannot attack again.
Very unique talking points, very fresh takes.
It's Ursula Von Der Leyen and Europe sacrificing Ukraine's men, as if Ukraine has zero agency on its own defence.
Russia could only lose via a multi-decade conflict.
Fighting on is a dangeorus gamble with Ukrainian lives, as opposed to Ukraine fighting to hold onto its soverign territory and avoiding a genocidal sweep of its population and statehood.
Ukrainians should just give in now to save some level of soverignty.
Direct NATO-Russia war risks nuclear annihilation, when NATO hasn't put a single soldier into the fight in 4 years nor has signalled anything to the contary.
To quote yourself "then a strategy that uses Ukraine's incredible defensive successes to lock in the best possible peace, one that preserves Ukrainian sovereignty and a future sooner rather than later, might be better?"
Seems wildly incompatiable with Russia's current stance that Ukraine not only surrender lost territories, but give up territories Russia hasn't a hope of taking, and put heavy limits on its military, and a sweeping host of other surrenders including the West welcoming Russia back into civilisation with open arms.
You can talk about reality, and I'd say Putin needs a heavy dose of it himself, except he already knows the true reality. He launched a botched invasion, he tanked Russia's economy, he destroyed his own legacy, he exposed RU as a toothless tiger from a military POV, and all the rest, and for what?
Some parcels of neighbouring Ukraine? Even if he achieved it all tomorrow, history will remember him as a classic blunderer. Clearly he thought he'd waltz through Ukraine in short order ala both Gulf Wars.
He personally has nothing to lose now, and no doubt he'll keep going until something gives, why wouldn't he? His whole image and hold on power depends on it. The economy is propped up by wartime spending.
At this point Putin is in a classic Catch 22 situation. Can't really afford to win or lose, almost, but at least a "win" would paper over the stress fractures for a while.
Very concerning.
For the Russians.
If you can just transfer all your money into my bank account it would save the trouble of me having to steal it from you - it's the same as the logic you are using with Russia's invasion of Ukraine - it's a totally ludicrous proposition.
For real peace to have any chance I suspect an irreversible change of leadership personnel will have to occur in Moscow.
The world’s response is pathetic.
I've been wondering why Ukraine hasn't been going after the shadow fleet….good to see these vessels hopefully being promoted to submarines
Good article by Wes O'Donnell would suggest otherwise outlining what he says are four likely scenarios.
TLDR; Putins legacy - Dont expect serious change for the better.

This sums up Russia beautifully- banning human rights watch.
I hope this is the beginning of a long campaign so Russian ships stop transporting oil and gas through the black sea. And hit them while they're empty heading to Russia.
Let the bitch burn
The chances of positive change are slim. However, a post-Putin Russia will have a growing threat on the border and it won’t be Ukraine. If China starts making moves there may be no choice but to become friendlier with the US and Europe.
The more bonkers the Trumps peace deal is, the absolute no way in hell will it be signed. Now is the time for Europe to cut Trump off, and go help Ukraine more
Possibly the craziest thing I've read in a while. I hope this is legit.
Go and restore your honour. The draft dodgers abroad should do likewise.
Trump doesn't seem to realize those cards he like to talk about are changing. Ukraine is less dependent on the US than it was.
They're still dependant on them. Let's not forget if the USA took a Chinese style approach to Russia, no sanctions and economic cooperation Ukraine would be absolutely screwed. So while the Trump admin are being tramps about it, there are levels to this.
Interesting reading here. The latest Us Sanctions hadn't been introduced in this period. Sanctions in the form of Ukrainian drones it seems. Looking forward to seeing the next financial result post sanctions however.
Question…
Do you think Putin is a rancid animal that should be tried in The Hague for the murder of innocent children?
The article is paywalled so I've been unable to read it.....but it sounds damning
Lots of “concern” for Ukraine in recent scripts. The other beauty….Russia can keep this going for decades 😂
The same Russia selling its gold reserves at an increasing rate. The more pressure Putin is putting on Trump the more precarious it must be for Russia. He can only push Trump so far before even the dumbest MAGA realise Trump is the ballcock gimp, cuck most of us have already figured out.
The current SMO. 100% proves your point eg :-
(1) Part of Georgia annaxed
(2) Part of Moldova annaxed
(3) part of Donesk invaded/occupied circa 2014
(4) Part of Luhansk invaded/occupied circa 2014
(5)Crimea invaded/ occupied circa 2020
(6) More Oblasts of Ukr now being invaded /occupied under the SMO - including further expansion in the Oblasts of Donetsk and Luhansk
(7) Then there is the ‘proxy type/remote control war’ being carried out by for example :-

I'm always surprised with the conspiracy theories around Trump being a Russian agent etc.
Trump is compromised when it comes to money. Full stop.
Even since he ran for re election; the Crypto scheme, fundraising, Vietnam vis a vis tariffs/golf resort etc etc. His corruption and that off his entourage is out there in the open. US foreign policy, tariff policy will be used to extract money for Trump and family.
You don't need to be a former KGB agent to figure Trump out; its really simple.
More than any other world leader Putin has, after 30 years of state corruption, has access to more resources than any other world leader with the exception of Xi maybe. Funnelling money into Trumps orbit won't be difficult.
Trump, other than maybe around economics, doesn't have an ideology, its all about the money.
Yes he's really weird with his daughter, has a civil court finding in relation to rape and there is no doubt many others, he was mates with Epstein but I don't think he's an outlier in that regard for a very powerful man.
And despite swimming in the largest or second largest oil revenues for decades, Russians continue to live in poverty certainly outside the big cities. The mass theft of washing machines by soldiers is an example.
During the war, people in those regions were lured by unheard of sums of money to join the army. But now, regions like Samara have dramatically cut their signup bonus according to reports mentioned by Kings and Generals channel on youtube.
The people have no concept of their rights as citizens. The constitutional rights to free speech in the 1993 constitution, and the ban on censorship or the ban on a national ideology, are just ignored by Putin.
People nearly forget that Trump is a businessman, not a politician. He has zero interest in politics and doesn't have an ideology. Certainly, the entire Trump family (including Kushner) seem primarily interested in business deals and making money - they are more 'Dallas' than 'The West Wing'.
He's also a showman. A lot of us first heard of him in his TV apprentice days. At times he treats the presidency like it's a TV show. He loved being center of attention then and he loves being it now.
Yep I dont think Russia could be allowed to implode economically by China. They would prop them up for their own means and simply own them. China always play the long game.
You seem to agree Trump was at Epstein sex “parties” and by Parties I mean sex with underage girls. Epstein was known to make videos. So, you realise Trump (a very public/MAGA Jesus supporter) and you think he doesn’t care or he’s compromised by this ALSO?
now the russians are concerned that filipinos are being recruited to fight for ukraine .. a bit ironic given their links to north korea and other countries
Germany denies Russia’s claims of Filipino recruitment for Ukraine

Let's make that as costly as humanly possible for China then.
I wonder how willing China would be without the Russian shadow fleet to send them cheap oil.
Russia is in violation of the Mercenary Convention, but the West and Ukraine are expected to abide by it like some sort of latter day chivalric code.
VIRAT is still on the surface but making very little way.
KAIROS looks more promising, no position updates since yesterday
