I’m so pissed off that the Europeans have allowed the compromised US to continue positioning themselves as leaders in the regard. They should have taken the initiative and by-passed the US a year ago and avoided this bullsh!t. Come up with their own adult version of a settlement. By now "transactional" is a euphemism on the same level as a word that some Trump supporters use when faced with examples of his crudity and lowlife vulgarity. They admit that he can be "brash".
We should genuinely approach the Ukrainians about purchasing some of their maritime drones. They proven to be effective against the Russian navy in the Black Sea so surely they could be useful in defending our Atlantic coast?

In Russia, the ‘close ties’ between religion ie the Russian Orthodox Church and the ‘political establishment ‘ there has been the case for hundreds of years. Those ties are essential for the continual establishing of the dictatorship there so it is very much part of the various leaders’ strategy over time immemorial.

Latest peace plan is a disgusting putin driven one sided sellout done in secret while Ukraine is in political turmoil, Europe will enjoy a short respite but when a battle hardened Ukraine army is made fight for Russia it will be harder to defend against, baltics and Poland will be threatened testing whats left of NATO without a now fcuked up US allied with Russia.

The technological means for asymmetric warfare have moved on substantially over the last 50 years. Our own troubles could seem like a picnic in comparison to the action that is now possible against an unwelcome occupying force. Many Ukrainians will have acquired very useful skills over the past few years.
This plan is not a plan at all. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia has already denied that they even know about the plan.

However, if Europe is not on board, it will fail to impose this. Europe is no hurry to return to Merkels failed Russia policy.
It seems the Americans are changing track, just like they had done for the Anchorage summit. If you recall just before it they were playing hardball with the Russians and then suddenly agree to the summit. They want to make some rather large concessions to the Russians if "sources close to the negotiations" are to be believed: Cede Donetsk, reduced military, and neutrality.
Ukraine is in a rather weakened position at the moment. With the ongoing corruption scandal effecting the whole upper echelons of Ukraine's government and business, reduced foreign military and financial aid, Russia making slow but costly progress on the battlefield.
The Americans might feel that they have the Ukrainians in a check mate situation. It's very telling that it appears that Keith Kellog, a hardliner on Russia, is said to be leaving his post in the new year.

This peace plan is an absolute travesty. Basically a surrender plan. Nobody could possibly think the Russians don't have something on Trump.

It's as legitimate a position as USA's unilateral proposals that Ukraine should hand over parts of its country to Russia for what would likely only be a temporary peace. </sarcasm>

Don't understand why everyone gets themselves in a tizzy every time a new "deal" is announced. Neither side are anywhere close to even considering what the other side wants.

Does the US not understand that the aggressor never wants a ceasefire, only a surrender? Why would you want a ceasefire when you are invading another country? Is this simple fact lost on the Americans?
