New thread as the last thread seems to be broken.
my issue is with it being talked about like it’s “sacked in the morning” type of job. There’s no prize money at stake so it isn’t that type of job. By all means move him on when the time is right.
Still not handling your dissapointment I see.
Doesn't seem to matter what thread I see you contribute to, but it's always a contrary post that would make the eyes roll.
Some people don't get sport, or indeed life :) Celebration police…
it will cap off a great week/ Ten days of Irish sport when we humble the Springboks on Saturday
Kelleher named in UEFA qualifying team of the season. Great to see!
Jesus i can only feel sorry for you if this is genuine.
Of course I'm happy we won the games but I'll be far happier if we somehow qualify.
As a previous poster alluded to we shouldn't be in a situation where we are celebrating like we won the world cup getting in to a playoff.
Should be the minimum expectation.
not really anything official from UEFA? Just some stats site’s verdict based on their rating system?
It's the context of the results really is why such elation arose, rather than the fact we made the playoffs.
But really we used to make playoffs almost every year going back decades.
Talented keeper and Brentford being a selling club we'll hopefully see some clubs show some interest in Kelleher next summer. Bazunu will find it extremely tough to get his spot back. Though at the moment he should be worried about getting away from Southampton and getting his career back on track.
Fair point.
However, we are coming from a low bar. It's a big stepping stone for the players.
The expectation will definitely be to least make play offs in the Euro qualifiers, that's for sure.
Funny how Bazuna was rated higher.
People were raving about him and now he's considered dodgy.
Might need the FAI to hire some sports physiologists because going to be massive expectations going into the March window
More or so the 'plastics'
Kelleher got injured and bazunu took his chance. But from what I heard second hand from fai coaches Kelleher was always seen as better /the one
You'd probably be one of those complaining had we played rubbish for 99% of the group but still qualified by winning it saying the football was sh1t.
Where should it stop though?, should Scotland not be embarrassed and cringing at the fact they have qualified but many will give them little chance of qualifying from their World Cup group?
It has not been easy being green of late to paraphrase a famous frog from a famous puppet franchise.
Instead of a hand being up your arse though I fear your head might be.
Was this the same coach rating Idah over Parrott?
no, that wasn’t a coach, that was a call I made given the strengths of Idah in terms of as a behind the lines runner (a role that I neglected could be filled by Ogbene) and needing that versus Portugal. It was a totally wrong call that I’ve highlighted myself since but thanks for your interest and thinking of me so much.
Some waffle
No Haaland when he scored 16 goals...okay
kelleher got injured when he would have been in pole position and then travers got selected vs Serbia and it didn’t go well so Bazunu came in and took the opportunity.
Bazuna was playing first team football also.
But kellihers miles ahead in terms of talent.
Bazuna needs to improve a lot to have a career at a decent level.
He's still very young though.
I only noticed today that all of the 4 teams who qualified for the play offs from the NL were the winners from the League C Groups. Was this pure coincidence?, apologies I’m a bit late to the party. Otherwise was there any benefit to Ireland winning the NL play off and staying in League B when the Euros comes around if you have more chance of making a play off in League C??!!!
Seems to he the case.
there was no advantage this time around. We finished too low in the nations league to take the advantage of the opportunity it gave the likes of Sweden of giving a backdoor into the playoffs.
Maybe it doesn’t make sense or maybe someone else can explain better or more accurately
but nations league ranking decides your seeding so the lower you go, it’s likely the harder your group becomes
I'm not sure anyone understands the nations league fully.
But seeding for the Euros qualifying groups comes from the Nations league so we're better in League B. League A would be even better.
WC seedings are based on FIFA rankings.
Tomorrow in a nutshell
Poland - doomed
Wales - dunno
Slovakia - yay!
Czechia - yay!!
I'd be happy with either Slovakia or Czechia. First preference just on results and infighting in the camp is definitely Czechia. They are a mess at the moment.
Poland are very strong.
The other 3 more beatable.
Yeah. Be rough to get Poland. Psychologically I think we'd really struggle there much more than in Hungary with their fans expectations and atmosphere.
I can't place Wales on the good/bad speedometer. Which team are we talking about? The one that lost to Canada or the one that thrashed north Macedonia??
