I think most people would sacrifice the road noise for the glass roof?
Because the interior solid roof helps reduce interior noise as new variant no longer has double glazed galss and improves efficiency/range (I am not making it up that is what Tesla is saying on this point ) .

From the driver seat of the Model 3 it's easy to forget there's a glass roof above. But if I ever sit in the rear, I still get the "wow I can see up" feeling. But my passengers are generally so busy looking at their phones that they wouldn't notice either (and wouldn't miss the rear control screen for the same reason). So I think it's not a major loss. Though I agree it sounds silly to not reveal it if it is still there.
You realise the vast majority of leather seats nowadays are fake leather it's not a Tesla thing.
Sorry vegan leather is probably more esg friendly nomenclature
Yea I know that, I don't like leather seats at all. Don't have them at home and wouldn't have them in a car. I just find them uncomfortable.
Can't see it helping residuals but at the same time I personally wouldn't be interested in one, it was the improvements from the previous y that interested me and the spec over and above the Audi I had, giving all that up wouldn't make it as interesting a proposition.
ah here they’ve just gone and removed the fm/am radio…🤣
I used one of them back in the early 70s 😂
They were jealous of the BYD Seal 😂
Those owners said they don’t listen to FM anymore with online apps and DAB so it’s all good!
Me, I still switch to FM104 every morning 😂
Removing the FM radio is one dumb fuckin move.
Model Y has had too much removed. Should be honest and call it "taxi spec". If you want to save money for personal car, just wait and buy one that's 2 years old.
Model 3 is still on-target, and lower price helpful. Skoda Octavia replacement market? Good car. I actually prefer the cloth mix on seats. I'd miss auto steer and led colours tho.
Is there suspension downgrade on both? That's a step too far. Suspension needed improvement anyway.
But really, this all looks like a car company with only 2 cars, struggling to stay current. Look at Kia range. EV 3,4,5,6,9.... I'm sure I missed one.
That’s actually a deal breaker, stupid decision
Video review / first look
Smart move by Tesla. A lot lost in the Y in fairness, but the 3 is a cracking deal with all the important stuff still there.
I’m sure there will be an aftermarket fix to expose the glass roof in the Y. A retractable sunshade would be the obvious solution.
For those wanting the likes of the rear screen, that’s an easy fix too.
A big loss in both is the basic autopilot. Still a good offering overall if you can look past that.
Losing the hepa filter is a big deal. I love that I have clean air in the cabin no matter what. Stuck behind a dirty diesel belching truck? Still clean air in the cabin.
I think over all these are very good compromises. It's well worth saving 5k for those who just don't care about the extras. I'm glad they jave 19" wheels. There's nothing worse than seeing a nice car ruined by tiny cheap wheels.
The buttons to move the seat are gone, along with the automatic profile adjustment. This means, if you share the car, you will need to adjust everything in the settings and using the steering wheel scroll wheel.
This is nuts. It makes it practically unusable for couples who share the car. I would have expected the normal manual adjustment controls.
Edit: has the auto adjustment gone? Or just the buttons? It's not clear.
What, no autopilot? Any link to that? It would be the first Tesla that did not come standard with autopilot in nearly 7 years back when it was an optional extra on the cheaper cars
Now that actually would be a deal breaker to me, I don't give a toss about any of the other stuff, you could take the heater and the aircon out if all I cared 😂
Kim Java on YouTube shows it. Only CC. FSD can be purchased. I don’t know if any other option can be purchased.
In other news. The price of my performance uncorking has been revised down to €0 😄
Isn't Adaptive cruise control(ACC) mandatory for new models in E.U. since 2022. I have been in hire city cars with ACC in recent weeks. Delivery in US is 1600 quid.
Quick research shows that TechCrunch, Teslarati and InsideEVs have all reported that too. I guess the cars all have the required hardware and software, just not enabled. I bet they will all come with the free FSD trial in the USA as all Teslas do 😂
At the moment in many countries (including Ireland), you can move FSD from an older car to a new Tesla for free - which would apply to me. You don't need to sell your old car to Tesla or trade it in, they will just remove it from your old car and apply it to your new car
I don't think the new variants are aimed at anyone currently sitting in a Tesla.
Having said that I went from an 08 Auris to a 3 year old M3. Like a caveman walking onto the enterprise.
I'd rather buy a 2 or 3 year old "premium" model and have the comforts/toys, I would not care about the number plate.
Everything about the base model model 3 shouts that they are trying to soak up sales from the Honda Civic which go to Uber drivers and Turo private car hire market in the U.S.
They won't make good margin on those cars but it stops their sales figures from imploding.
You think you don't care, but you do. As the total cost of ownership on buying a 2 year old car with more options than a brand new car for the same money, would be significantly higher. Unless of course you keep either for a very long time. Something that a lot of people plan to do, but very few actually do
If the Model 3 comes in around €33k on the road, it will be cheaper than the cheapest Toyota Corolla, Hyundai i30 or Skoda Octavia. That is quite something.
Can you explain this a bit more? I don't get it.
The cars still have the TACC it is just the autosteer functionality that has been disabled/removed
You think you don't care, but you do.
Unless of course you keep either for a very long time. Something that a lot of people plan to do, but very few actually do
I'd refer you to my '08 Auris. I do tend to keep cars a long time, sometimes too long to be very honest.
I do take the point though. I'm not in the majority.
The total cost of ownership? Let's say you buy a brand new base no options 2026 standard Model 3 for €33k or a 2 year old Highland RWD Model 3 with a few extras for the same money
After 2 years in 2028, the former will be worth say €24k as a 2 year old car. The latter will be worth €18k as a 4 year old car
The depreciation on the newer car will have been €9000, that on the older cat will have been €15000. The other bits of the total cost of ownership will have been roughly the same
Give or take a few thousand on either car, but you get the idea?
Ok get you, thanks. I suppose we don't know the exact figures. You will probably save more than 6k on a 2 yr old Highland. Also depreciation is front loaded. Your brand spanking new car is effectively a 1 year old 2nd hand car the second your name goes down as the owner.
But I do get the argument. Its definitely something to consider. Personally, if I wouldn't afford a new "premium" model, I'd go 2nd hand premium.
People who don't care about features are probably not going to go for a Tesla in the first place.
That's an incredible stretch. The only reason they did this was to not have to redesign the manufacturing line for metal roof. But make sure this lower cost car looked different to the higher cost. They have to make it feel to people to may more for panoramic extra.
Do like jap imports. Tunein over bluetooth and listen to whatever radio station you wish to listen to…and many digital only channels too.
