Anyone know if the offensive against Palestine has eased because Israel is now engaged with Iran?

It hasn't. They killed 25 civilians yesterday.

    And 72 today https://www.rte.ie/news/2025/0619/1519315-gaza-israel/

Careful talking about it here though, we might get told off by Marko

No, they continue to slaughter the starving who are walking to the Israeli-US 'aid stations'

    Oh that’s rich coming

From a criminal state who spits and wipes arse with international laws, rules and treaties said country and their dictator for over a quarter century signed, whom started a genocidal war much larger than this

Moaning about rules not being applied equally

    Hilarious

I agree it is hipocrisy. A "double standard" - I am not sure in the current world where so many powerful countries seem to be ceasing to even pretend to aim for or apply universal standards any more.

There's no UN sanctions on Russia. Western countries surely are free to trade and engage as they will, and they mostly don't want to do so with Russia any more.

A standard of overlooking evils done by one's allies and engaging in naked self interest - the same behaviour as Russia's allies who have opposed any sanctions & have maintained or deepened relations post Feb. 2022.

I called this particular issue at the very start of this. BMD isn't a sustainable or affordable method of defence against an enemy that can launch saturation or sustained attacks.

I did probably overestimate the number of available Arrow interceptors by about 100% though. The current pattern of launching 2 per inbound missile isn't sustainable and what's more? It will likely push back the delivery of Germany's allocation of Arrow interceptors.

One thing to take note of in addition to the THAADs already in position in Israel, is the number of Aegis equipped ships in the region, both in the Gulf & the Med. Even with those additional interceptors, they could be run down quickly and they can't be reloaded at sea, it needs an RTB to rearm, likely Rota in Spain.

The US may not immediately enter the war but they will certainly ensure enough BMD capable ships are available to help cover the potential emptying of Israel's Arrow stockpile.

No, they are still bombing targets throughout Gaza and killing people - it's not just people being shot at aid centres.

looks like israel could be in trouble with trump going to take another 2 weeks to decide on how iran talks/strikes are going...

Perhaps Bibi overestimated his influence on Trump. Though it is hard to predict what Trump will do.

So bombing hospitals is ok if armed people are in it-

U can be assured there were armed ones in that Israel hospital-

    Apart from 🚀-

Can the Israeli stand the din-

This is the world order we find ourselves in, unfortunately. Western countries largely take their cue from the political positions of the United States. As long as the United States are behind Israel, so will most of the Western leaders be. There remains a strong, strong lobby in the United States that is pro-Israel and this isn't hinting at the old conspiracy theory of Jewish people controlling everything - this lobby really comes out of conservative Christian middle America through to fundamentalist Christian America. It's a large enough voting bloc that neither party can expect to maintain electability by turning on it.

There are other views within conservative America that might temper how far America would go in support of Israel, like the isolationist bloc, but even this bloc, I believe, are happy to let America give Israel all the toys it needs to slaughter everyone it wants (or at least non-white muslim peoples), just as long as its Israeli forces doing it.

Sometimes America's positions line up with what I think is good and just, like helping Ukraine defend itself from Russian aggression. Other times, it enables terrible barbarism like Israel performing a fish/barrel shoot on the Palestinians. I don't get into the circular thinking of going that if a country's actions are bad in one realm, all of its positions and actions must be at least questionable. I take it on a case by case basis. America helping Ukraine defend itself - good. America helping Israelis slaughter innocent Palestinians and Iranians - very, very bad. I wish they would stop the latter.

I read a report earlier that said around 35 per cent of Iran's missiles are getting through now. A few days ago it was less than 10 per cent.

Nauseating looking at Bibi giving out about Iran bombing a medical centre ,the hypocrisy of that murderer.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 1,072 ✭✭✭DayInTheBog

So sdo you suggest Israel shouldn't bomb a command centre just because it's a hospital and let the enemy continue to fire at it from that location?

A simple yes or no will suffice.

There's talk they are firing ballistic missiles with multiple war heads. Hard to knock all them down

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,637 ✭✭✭brickster69

Thing is America is probably a main instigator of the Ukraine conflict going back decades just as they are for the middle east. The unfortunate thing is most European countries jumped on the bandwagon supporting them and now it looks like they are left with all the responsibility for it.

Hopefully they don't follow the dying Hegemon over the cliff into another suicidal campaign against China never mind Iran.

U don't tell me how to answer your question-

U are implying that it's OK to bomb hospitals now- as long as U have an excuse-

The Provos bombed a military hospital in Belfast in the 90s which killed two brit army officers-

    Was that OK to U-?-

The Iranian missiles launched in the earlier exchanges were basically bullet sponges. Launched towards Israeli targets in the hope that some would penetrate Arrow but in the expectation that it wouldn't and would also take 2 interceptors out of the Israeli magazine.

Israel needs to keep hitting the TEL launchers as per Gulf War 1 scud hunting as now Iran are launching missiles capable of higher speeds and terminal manoeuvres to evade the interceptors.

As long as Iran keeps a launch capability? The leak rate only goes up.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 1,072 ✭✭✭DayInTheBog

So you think Israel should just stop firing and let Hamas continue to fire rockets at it. Thought so.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,868 ✭✭✭✭nacho libre

I read yesterday that Israel has destroyed most of them already. What do you make of this claim? I suppose we will know when the missiles stop coming. Surely though Iran would have war gamed for all this. So it maybe not be as easy as some posters are suggesting to do it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,627 ✭✭✭Wolf359f

There's evidence of Iran using cluster warheads not MIRV's (multiple independently-targetable reentry vehicle)

MIRV's separate before re-entry so you would need to either destroy it before it separated using THAAD or similar or face multiple missiles coming at you.

The cluster ones would separate much closer to the ground so there's still a chance of destroying the missile before it splits.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,279 ✭✭✭✭banie01

Israel are claiming that Iran have 300 and that they've hit 200.

I'd reckon their tally of destroyed is accurate but I would guess that Iran have more than 300 TEL, especially given the recent somewhat surprise launch of the 2 stage missiles. Those require larger launchers and there is a lot of chatter that Iran has closer to 500 TELs as well as the ability to use trailer mounted systems for their older/smaller missiles which means that they could use normal commercial tractor trucks for mobility.

TLDR; Israel's running total of destroyed is likely right but I think they've undercounted the available launchers.

The main instigator was Russia as they invaded Ukraine in February, 2022, and Ukraine have been defending their internationally-recognised territory ever since, which is their basic right. We have seen in places like Afghanistan that if the people don't actually want to fight against some force that is anti-American, the people simply won't. Doesn't matter how much weapons and training the US give them, so it is heavily suggestive that the Ukrainians' will to fight Russia is a lot more fundamental than American meddling.

Anyway, that's a debate for another thread, if you want to make the argument about it, but it's already been gone over multiple times, there.

indeed - funding terrorists and committing genocide - exactly what Israel is doing in Gaza. And they're getting a free pass.

Well, until the ICC and ICJ have their day of course.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,106 ✭✭✭✭Strazdas

I get the impression Israelis are very much surprised - if not shocked - at the level of damage that has been done to Tel Aviv so far. Fourteen separate missile attacks and huge explosions right across the city in the space of seven days was not part of the script. Tel Aviv has never seen anything like this before.

Israel now backing down from the idea of regime change, it seems a climbdown is well underway.

Trump's comment about delaying a decision on US intervention for two weeks is not what Tel Aviv wanted to hear, likewise with his insistence that a deal is near.
