Zelensky is a genius. Time after time he just completely outmanoeuvres putler on the diplomatic stage.
The fact he even proposed peace talks at all just proves what a weak position that he's in. The orc economy is in a shambles, the foreign exchange reserves are exhausted, inflation is out of control, they've barely moved the front line in 3 years and they've over a million dead.
Breaking news… Putler has chickened out from attending peace talks in Turkey.

Trump had recently said about going as well to meet with putin there so now would look silly if he does not do something to step up pressure on the moskovytes to agree to something quickly.
Good play by Zelenski.
But Russia was never going to give up 30 days of attacking on perfect summer soil. All western allies should be concerned about is weapons to stop this.

I'd absolutely love to be wrong but I suspect Trump will, yet again, simply let Putin off the hook.

I think it was posted before. Putin has engineered so many ways for people to die some made public in the poisonings and others probably put down as natural causes. The freak is so paranoid now of knowing it could be returned to sender.

Putin’s proposal for the Istanbul meeting and only giving a short weeks notice for it RULES OUT the possibility of a detailed discussion/conversation - so what had Putin in mind then . So, take a leaf out of the very recent trade agreement between The US and The UK and the virtual meeting - a very warm one at that- between Trump and Starmer. They met to agree B-road headings and the DETAILS will be worked out later. This LATER from start to finish could take anything from Y months to X years!
Going on the above PRECIDENT and the seriousness of the issue at stake a good start would be for Putin and Zalenski to meet case to face - might take two or more meetings- to work out the headings of an agreement and then to let their senior officials take over

Joking aside he may be ill, his health is not the best. He had cancer 2-4 years ago. With God's help it may have returned. I would not be surprised if he is unable or too ill to attend

If Putin does not turn up , Trump has now another profound/clear reason - along with 10s’ of other profound reasons- to put REAL SCREWS on Putin to bring the war to a quick end and to unilaterally get the border back to the pre 2014 border
Trump is moving in Middle East courts now - having blundered all over Ukraine and it’s hopes for peace he’s now working on filling up the Trump Treasury. Has and never had any real interest in anything but his never ending bauble hunt.
Nobody is suggesting they start and finish negotiations. But if a broad consensus can be reached between two leaders - whether CEOs or presidents, as to what direction negotiations should take, then the negotiation teams can take things from there. Alas, Putin's bluff has been called and he wants to avoid good faith negotiations at all costs - better to send some henchmen so he can distance himself from the inevitably failed talks and also point to Zelenskiy as being the one who refused the (deliberately unacceptable) terms offered by the Russians. Will Trump see through this charade is the only question now.
Can we stop with the over a million dead talk again? It's popped up a few times in the last week. I've lost count of the amount of times this has been discussed - the (Ukrainian) million figure is dead and wounded. Using incorrect figures just gives Putin apologists ammunition to discredit every claim that is made against Russia.
I fully expect this too. "It was completely unreasonable for Zelensky to try to back my pal Vlad into a corner and make him look weak. That's why this war started." That sort of crap.
Looks like the Europeans have finally figured out that they can't rely on placating Trump and relying on the US… hopefully they have something up their sleeve because this cowardly cop out by Putin was seen coming a mile away.
