New season so time to open the spring thread.
Will we get an improvement from the previous two stinkers? Time will tell.
A mostly cloudy and dry start in Dublin 13 with any rain spreading southeast fizzling out.
Yeah, That's it. Everyone loving it. Buying hot tubs like no tomorrow, covid, no work, just sit out the back all day. April and may were brilliant. Then came June and it was sh1te for the rest of the summer. Myself and my partner were kind of lucky, worked all the way through it.
Aw no well that's a shame 😕 I hope it's not the case this year then , I hope it's warm and mostly dry overall
Spring 2020 was incredible and it came to a crushing end around June 2nd and the rest of that summer was a trainwreck from what I remember.
2020 was a good summer may and June was anyway but can't remember July or August
Yeah that was exactly it, I remember because I was let go from work at the end of May due to Covid and had another job lined up to start at the end of August so I was looking forward to a few months off to get some big projects done, weather broke about 2 weeks after and never recovered, it was a waste of the time off! Hopefully this isn't a repeat of the same. It is disappointing to see that the weather is to break again Sunday. Even though this spell of weather has been overall great, the weekends have been disproportionally poor overall which is frustrating.
I echo your thoughts. I too remember it being nice at the beginning of June but not being that great for the remainder of summer. I tend to remember what the weather was like at the beginning of a given June as my birthday is on the first day of summer and a bank holiday is always around the same time.
I did a glacier hike in the south of Iceland yesterday and the very low cloud base made it quite atmospheric, even if it limited views. I'm happy to see fine weather returning to Ireland, although your high pressure has pushed the jet stream to up here, so a lot of cloud is being dragged in from the Atlantic. There's even a yellow warning for wind and snow tomorrow, which is underwhelming for May but May snow will at least be a novelty for me if it comes to pass.
2020 hit the peak on the June Bank Holiday weekend then went downhill after that. Very below average I recall after that point.
If the high is returning then a drop of rain wouldn't go astray........
this really has been a great spell of weather. Proper blue skies and pleasant temps life is so much more enjoyable when you can get out and do things without that constant nagging breeze or grey cloud. So enjoyable. Someone mentioned above I think the pattern being similar to 2020 which led to a good summer afterwards? My memory of 2020 is not of a good summer at all.
Similar to the first 2 weeks of April the majority of MetE stations are showing 0mm of rainfall after the 1st week in May. Malin Head has the highest rainfall with a whopping 0.5mm of rain.
Another beautiful day in Galway.
I was really hoping this weekend was going to be properly dry and sunny but not looking so great at the moment and then back to sunshine and warmth from Monday. Hopefully those shallow lows can stay away from us a bit more over the weekend, still some time to correct that.
Oh no, looks very dodgy for Sunday now. These shallow lows moving close to the south coast can pump in alot of rain from the Irish Sea. I'm going to the Leinster final on Sunday and was often drenched in these set ups. Also there's alot of communion outdoor parties on Sunday with bouncy castles etc. With the beautiful sunny warm weather and blue skies recently, this could catch alot of people by surprise. Hopefully the track might change, I'm keeping a close eye on this one, even MT and Wolf are struggling to predict this one.
First morning in a while where it's cool and grey in Dublin...hopefully the sun breaks through
Lough Corrib with Connemara mountains in distance.
around Easter, didn’t you get any? I got around 75mm in the third week of April. (Dublin)
Mount Dillon May 6th: max 19.4c min -0.9c, even more remarkable than the 22c daily temperature range a month ago with the nights now a lot shorter.
Beautiful afternoon
Another class day. Just like the first half of April, the great thing about this spell is the consistency. You know what you are going to get every day and can plan accordingly. Unusual for Ireland.
A few stations showing 18C at 1pm.
Stunning day again in Dublin
Just gone over 14C at my house, still pockets of cool air in the shade around town but lovely morning, could get into the high teens or touching 20C here in Kerry today.
The sun pillar from Tipp.
When I was looking at adjusting the exposure in photoshop, I accidentally jogged a slider and went way too far, and noticed a circular bright spot which given the lens, would correspond pretty much to the size of the sun, except that had already set.
Was this the ice crystals acting like a mirror and reflecting the image of the sun from below the horizon?
The day only got nicer as it went along here near Tralee, reached a peak of 17.8C at my site around 17.00, big range after an overnight low of 3.8C.
Cool night again now down to 7.7C. What a beautiful sunset .
Costa del Irlanda
An amazing sunset this evening in Sutton, Dublin. The hazy cloud gave the brightest sun pillar I have seen in a long time and with good colour to beat.
Good summer ☀️ sorry that posted while I was typing 😅
Just watching the deep dive on YouTube and similar patterns so far this spring to 2020 and we all know how sunny that spring was followed by a plesent summer as well so fingers crossed 🤞 we have a
less than 2 weeks ago
That was over two weeks ago now. It can rain like that every second weekend if it means it’s followed by two weeks of almost non-stop sun and mild temps.
We had plenty over the Easter week!
Cracking weather. When Nature says goodnight !
