Well I don't think they officially applied before 2022 at which point they were already at war so couldn't join.
I know there was talks about it before but there was a lot of internal issues with it at the time I think. I honestly don't know if it went as far as an official application tbh.
And he has back peddle from every red nuclear line too tbh.
Unless the current members made a special category, if Ukraine joins now (while war is ongoing) the other members would commit themselves to much greater assistance to Ukraine I think (or else it makes a bit of a mockery of NATO Article 5, given you have a member occupied and under furious assault and the limit of the aid is pretty much weapons [in limited amounts and restricted categories] and money).
Even the most supportive are reluctant to get more directly involved, but possibly they could need to if situation worsens for Ukraine, given these lifelines being thrown towards Russia by the US (I hope not).
I think the current admin. in the US is deeply ignorant about the world (and proud of it) and so they could underestimate how critical Ukraine not "losing" is to some of these countries + what they will risk to stop that happening.
At the NATO summit 2 years ago they voted on a resolution to reaffirm their commitment from Bucharest 2008 that they would become a member.
I remember Zelensky criticising why they couldn’t give them a time line for membership. Surely if they were given membership by now it would make a real difference in the negotiations with Russia to pull back and leave., and give a real show of strength from the alliance.
It was Angela Merkal who stopped Ukraine from joining NATO.
She was afraid thst if they joined that Russia would attack and WW3 would have started. It would have been better had that joined with no Trump but also I think she said at the time that Ukraine army was not well repaired for war with Russia and so the allies made that a priority and well that is one of the reasons that Ukraine has been able to keep Russia where they are and how they beat them in the first few weeks but I fear that Russia is slowly winning now because without the support of America for Ukraine its a lot tougher for them.

You know you're fucked when our leaders are turning to the catholic church for advice.
So Putin got scare in 2008 with Ukraine and Georgia heading towards NATO. Obviously wasn't ready for the full scale invasion and probably didn't want to scupper his chances of hosting the world cup.
So he took the easier option and invaded parts of Georgia while applying pressure on Ukraine by interfering in their elections with his puppets.
2014 he goes for the Crimea grab while starting the civil war in Ukraine led by Russian ultra nationalists supplied with weapons from Russia itself and the rest is history.
If Merkel had balls they'd have fast tracked Ukraine in before Putin could say boo and this war would have never happened. Otherwise hinting at it but delaying it just put Ukraine in grave danger.
"🇺🇦🇺🇸 No mineral deal with the US this week, says Ukraine’s Finance Minister Marchenko. Delegation in D.C. acknowledges progress, but talks aren’t signing-ready yet — per Reuters."
Like I said keep dangling these mineral's just out of trump's reach. No reason to sign anything over if American isn't willing to help militarily.
Bad scenes coming out again
**** Trump.
Blocking patriots, this is the result.
As reported on CNN To-day:
Asked what concessions Russia was offering on Thursday, Trump replied, “stopping the war,” suggesting that not “taking the whole country” is a “pretty big concession.”
Yet another low in the life of DJT.
Yeah blocks patriots and then tut tuts Putin for taking advantage. He's fooling nobody.
I'd say part of why he wants to push this agreement through is so he can put it out early to certain investors to buy Russian stock ,they'd make a killing on the markets.
Why aren't Germany allowing the Ukrainians to use their Taurus missiles?
Heard Trump talking to the media yesterday and he mentioned 350billion having been spent by the USA on Ukraine while official aid tracking information shows support of less than half of this figure since putin's full scale invasion. He now wants to publicly force Ukraine to pay back over double what they got in aid while putin continues to murder Ukrainian civilians and Trump labels a USA sponsored surrender of Ukraine as a solution. He is just trying to continue to act like the low life mafia sc*mb*g he always has been even though now that he is president of the USA people expect better from the holder of that office. Hopefully some of his political power can be taken away by the other branches of the USA administration now that it seems even clearer what they are dealing with.
if ever an institute / university want to set up a course leading to a PhD and part of it covers the area of the ramifications of ‘ kicking a person when they are down’ , they need go no further than the situation where Trump is DEMANDING DOUBLE PAYMENT -NOW from UKR when it is at war for its very survival
LOL who be dumb enough to invest in Russia after all the investment assets either devalued to zero or got seized by the criminal regime
Klitschko spells out what we all know:
Good news
Another assassination. I really think these are some of the slickest moves Ukraine pulls. They are making it clear that Putrid doesn't have it all in the bag and must be seriously rattling his henchmen. Every boom is partial payment for the scum poisoning Budanov's wife.
Electric scooter is still my favourite one
That one was rudimentary, though none the less effective.
The most intriguing and over the top one was the 'supposedly' Baader Meinhoff assassination of Alfred Herrhausen, CEO of Deutsche Bank in 1989, with a shaped charge which fired 2kg of copper through the side of a bullet proof limousine at Mach 25, using 10 kg of explosive, which took out the middle vehicle in a 3 car convoy, triggered by the vehicle breaking an infra red beam that involved a wire under the road. Doesn't strike me as something terrorists could ever pull off.
Oddly enough, that also involved the shaped charge being in a bag slung on a bicycle parked at the roadside.
Wow
Now this is a fake tweet, BO did not say this, but it's a spookily prescient and pertinent fake, none the less.
As I remember hearing that story, they contacted him before the assassination informing him of the date and time they planned to kill him? Spectacular hit either way.
I have never in 30 plus years read any such thing, so I don't believe it. I find it unsettling that Putrid was KGB in East Germany from about 1990 'til 1989 when this assassination took place and the wall came down, possibly putting him in the frame for this one as well.
well…yeah…i "know" a lad that took out 3 guys in a bar…with a pencil…
I heard the story in a pub so obviously got an embellished version!
Still, a lot the average American could learn from it. ;)
That was a common attack in the Iraq war
Supposed peace offer documents have been published
And then there's this
That counter proposal is is excellent and leaves little in the way for US to reject it, rejecting it from their side would only further show just how much Trump is in Putin's pocket.
It's an awful shame the US didn't come up with a plan themselves and instead, just asked Russia what it wants.
No doubt it's been approved by the Kremlin, so in Trump's eyes if/when Ukraine counter with theirs/europes, Trump can say only Putin wants peace etc...
The Ukraine European counter is the second image in the tweet
