He was running a very mature herd with the older ladies mostly of Oman bred bulls from a decade ago, it was quiet noticeable how the younger cows had alot better solids but f...k all milk, and where very small and butty...
His ability to keep his older lactation cows motoring like they where was serious, and showed just how good a operator he was
Stanfit Lad i simply dont have time to a detailed breakdown to justify how to treat longterm customers with a bit decency. But heres a simple example for over 10yrs ive been selling for 20 euro at 2 weeks others were keeping till six for export getting avg 80 i saved comission haulage milk straw labour etc ive been far better of over 9 of the last 10 years so if anyone think its ok to screw loyal customers go a head go to the mart get as much as u can fair play to u i doubt youd sell much from home with ur attitude.
why would I want to sell them at home- you never get paid enough for them
I had 6 fresh calvers out 2 weeks ago- a local man wanted to buy them in the yard but wouldn’t pay 2500 avg for them- he ended up buying 3 of them at the mart for 3400 avg
you lose money by selling at home
I'd be wary of too many of those MOX replacements. I've a few milking here now the last few years and I've stopped using them. I only selected for moderate or low stature and used them on cows with Kiwi X in them, they're still very big and a bit short on milk too. I wouldn't be breeding off most of them.
I went to the mart for 2 weeks with calves, did well. A few lads rang me looking calves since and I sold them for same price as I got in the mart from home. They were happy as they weren't buying calves that had met every disease going in the mart
A 14 year old cow calved down here late last night. Snatched the calf straight away in case he's a PI. Heated some colostrum and got destroyed with slime and wet tubing him. I'll probably end up shooting him in a week or two anyway.
My 14 year old cleaned and was straight into her 13th lactation this morning, not a bother on her.
But you said on here before you sold everything from home now this year your in the mart wheres your old customer you got greedy and went to the mart
I've sold no calf yet this year. About half of them weaned now. Plenty lads looking for runners and they want to buy them from some farmers yard. Alot of these chancers would love to take advantage. There will be no bargains here this year. I've given away calves for nothing since I started farming. Hope to get some payback.
Stan I doubt any farmer would be so hard up for stock to try and deal with you at home thats why you go to the mart.
I'd sold to all my regular custumers, went to mart as they all had enough, then new customers came, they'd be talking to others who'd bought from me.
When will you be able to sell ,
A big blow to you but at least it was a good spring ,strong prices for milk ,cattle and you are well established .
So in a year of record prices u were unable to sell all your calves at home that doesnt make sense now youve new customers as well as mart so its strange how your old customers stopped buying from you id say u uped the price got greedy and your old customers stopped buying.
Read my post, my returning customers all had enough calves, bought the same as other years. I had a few I then brought to the mart. Then new customers came to buy some. I've 4 left to calve and 3 calves going tomorrow. All the rest that are to be born are sold
Why had they enough are they all cutting back or did u rise the price and sour them
If you read my posts, they bought the same as last year. I've more calves this year.
So youve expanded never mentioned that on here did u.did u increase your prices this year
Ah I'm well used to the breed. Kind of why I got the rotbunte for the Mox heifers. I've the first crop of the recent Mox milking now as heifers. There's some at 30 litres already. Like when they mature they should be at 40 - 45. There are some high volume bulls out there and low volume. Range like the hol/fr. Stockbull they are by is by Cortil 218kg milk.
Why are you wasting your energy answering him
Sorry I didnt consult you first
Nice to see daiymann back in their natural habitat operating the agitator :-)
Did u increase your prices
Just put him on ignore.
Rooster you could at least spell my name right a bit of respect please.
Yes but it also has genetic links, whether traits, type or immune strength.
i.e. I'd a "good" cow, except for her scc problem, she had 3 daughters bred from her before I knew and gave up on her, all 3 had scc problems, only 1 left this year and her milk is going to calves. Herd is fine.
Is yer motto "Do as I say, not as I do"?
stop please a “”””” dairyman 5
Your workload must be savage compared to other years. Same goes for lads with tb.
big talk about the fall in dairy numbers are we back yet to milk quota dairy cow numbers ??
I was saying that 18 months ago here. It took this long for everyone else to see the book let alone be on the same page. 😁
No idea on the numbers. Very busy on the number reductions in this county lately and those numbers won't be in any census yet.
Ya. 10% of his price plus 50 odd quid from the vet for cert .
