Lutnick is out today pouring cold water on the electronics tariff exemptions, saying there will be a specific tariff introduced for them in the coming days.

Trump doesn't like direct confrontation, he's a coward who can't speak his mind to someone unless he's surrounded by sychophants or being a key board warrior. In other words, he's a typical bully.

Maher doesn't know his arse from his elbow most of the times I've watched him. He's easily swayed and can be quite the lickspittle when in the company of someone he's normally critical of. He's the "liberal" Joe Rogan.

Never watched any Star Trek, maybe I have a future in fantasy scriptwriting!

This will be just a "Look Putin I have a bigger mickey and rockets than you do" type of parade.

It's amazing how clear it is absolutely no coherent thought and planning went into this. If you showed up on Dragon's Den with this sort of nonsense, they'd laugh.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Lutnick departing the administration in the near future.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,289 ✭✭✭spakman

Surely these mixed messages are just going go cause further market instability.

Is it possible Lutnick is also an idiot?

Any notion that there's a "plan" went out the window with the tariff on penguins.

I've been trying to think back to a defining moment of the last couple of weeks and I think that moment more than any encapsulates the imbecility and lunacy at the helm.

The problem for foreign holders of US debt instruments is deciding on alternatives, and once other long term options are settled on the retreat from US paper assets will pick up momentum.

I really hope the world retreats from the dollar being the de facto for trade and the bonds being the safe place to put money. The US can only be reeled in by it losing that status. We need a new more balanced world order and have less of our wealth sucked into the US.

Earlier, I had a random thought that the typical American goes to work and goes home to their kids, and that makes them the leader of the world. Is it any wonder they feel exceptional if it's that easy.

In the future, I hope this short period is seen as the shift to other entities like the EU investing in themselves more and not the US.

Any sign of Melania? Maybe her contract is up.

Do you honestly expect us to swallow this as "insightful"?

Ummediately before the inauguration, Semiconductors were subject to a 25% tariff, set to rise to 50% later in 2025. Many consumer electronics like smartphones and laptops had 7.5%.

So you know they'll just put it back to where it was and say "Art of the deal", "Winning"

Her father was a communist so she's probably been sent to a prison in El Savador.

Also Republicans - Let Trump run again in 2028 !

I'm guessing it's not as easy as changing the trading currency, otherwise many countries would have already done it. If Trump's example is anything to go by, responses to the USA should not consist of rash economic measures being taken that are designed to grab headlines but are not only not practical but threaten to cause chaos and general embarrassment.

Maher is a hack, with very little of value to say. Trump was being nice to him in an effort to get more favourable reaction from him. Job done it appears.

On rte radio you can listen to today's Brendan o Connor show. They talk about how trump is destroying the us economy investors are selling stocks and USA Treasury bonds America is no longer seen as a safe stable place to invest money while trump seems to have no logical economic policy .He is causing chaos in the stock market and bond markets unlike anything sense the recession in the 70s

America is at risk of becoming a second rate country with a average value currency investors are selling off American Treasury bonds as fast as they can buy gold or other safe investments

    How the mighty have fallen

A poem comes to mind about trump

Look on his works ye mighty and despair

To know him Is to loathe him

Hes a legend in his own mind

I thought Idiocracy was a satire

    trump thinks it's a documentary

    Trump thinks ignorance is bliss

Unless you happen to have invested your savings in the stock market you,ll not be so happy

In the 50s America feared the red menace

Now they fear the orange menace in the white house whose friends with Putin

    Autocrats need to stick together

Trump is writing a new book

How to lose allies friends and influence Putin

    With a forward. By DoGe

    Destroy our once Great Economy

America is in debt by trillions of dollars it's going to be much harder to pay back debt as the dollar falls and the bond market falls

The value of the dollar is linked to the price of us Treasury bonds

There's going to be a backlash against trump when consumers wake up and discover all goods are going up in value inflation is rising

The dollar in their pocket buys less

Shops will close as consumers cut back on luxury spending in fear if mass layoffs

With the upcoming recession people are afraid to buy a new house as there's likely to be significant job loss,s as consumer confidence falls

Even trump will find it hard to ignore the trillions

Dollars lost in the stock market

I'm going tomorrow.....into a deep MAGA part too....and I'm really not expecting to find it different to the 8 or 9 times I've been there before. I might be surprised but I would find it surprising. Americans also think it has become very unsafe here because they think the protests and aggro they see in viral videos is happening on every street corner all the time. It's no different!

A man is rich in proportion to the number of things which he can afford to let alone.

One real change I hope to see is an increase in A.B.T. results in the polls. He did a number on the candidates against him so it should happen to him given what he's doing to the economy of the U.S. while [he claims] he is trying to persuade U.S Co boards of directors to bring their profitable factories home A.S.A.P.

Regardless of one's personal preferences on whom the 48th should be and from what party, even the G.O.P will have to accept there has to be a fitter, more capable, candidate in their party to stand against whomever the Democrats nominate. Making the choice solely as a comparison to whomever the Dems put forward would be stupid as the party driving the U.S downhill now is RED, not BLUE.

one difference you will find, it’s WAY more expensive, even with the dollar falling to .88cents prices have risen dramatically.

Most people just want to live and work and look after their families, same as everywhere else. It’s becoming very hard for ordinary families to afford life in general. Electricity gone up (dramatically where I am), water gone up, groceries still increasing in Walmart, not so much in other stores. Yes eggs have come down. Gas still high. Insurance increases are crazy. Mine 25% this year. Shops closing. Property coming down (buyers markets in many areas, not where I am though) not a surprise with the increases over the past 6 years.

Interest rates still high. Great for savings (if you have them) not so good for loans/mortgages.

I came back to the States a few weeks ago, no issues at all. I did notice price increases immediately in groceries.

As for his parade in Washington, If he goes ahead with it, he might have to consider the fact that Anwar Sadat was at a victory parade for the Egyptian Army when some members of the parade shot him dead. Trump survived an attempt by an amateur sniper with a rifle from a rooftop. His security would have to consider what would happen if the tool to be used against him was a larger calibre from a fully auto weapon by a person/s regularly trained on how to use it.

Mr President, the words on your tombstone may well be "he ignored the Secret Service advice".

Reading this in Extra.ie has me laughing. The White House Doctors report on Trump's health status summary put's it down to his golfing active lifestyle. I wonder what he sees when he's looking down at the golf-ball next to his golf stick.

Trump was invited iduring his last presidency to the annual military parade in France and was HiGHLY impressed

He said at the time that he would like to have one in the US

one difference you will find, it’s WAY more expensive,

That simply can't be true! Remember under Biden things were expensive. They called it Bide-inflation! Trump said he would sort that out as soon as he got it!!

Are you saying he *didn't* fix the economy, like he said he would???

Elect a clown... Expect a circus

Same issues here in Ireland and pretty much the world over. Only the Americans thought they were so exceptional that they are immune from this. So decided to vote for a lunatic who was selling the exceptionalism lie hard and they lapped it up.

Americans need to learn, they're no better or more deserving than anyone else. They're just a bit more isolated due to geography.

Surprised Trump hasn't shown up at Augusta this weekend, looking for a Green Jacket or a bribe to not force the Masters to move to one of his own courses.
