The one just outside Clane is pretty good if it's in any way convenient to you.
Probably someone with a bit of common sense that realised that the canal path isn't wide enough for both pedestrians and cyclists a lot of the time, as well as the fact that cyclists who are commuting already use the main road and just cycle in the hard shoulder. Segregated cycle lane off the road and away from the path which is full of pedestrians, is a much better idea. Canal path isn't suitable for cyclists other than some slow leisure cycling and kids on bikes.
There was loads and loads of commuter cyclists on the old canal path from Maynooth - Pikes Bridge.
What was wrong with the hard shoulder for cyclists anyways? I've never had an issue cycling it. A certain % of the cyclists are still going to avoid the bike lane for stupid reasons and end up on the road anyways, only now there's no hard shoulder. Eventually the surface will have stones or moss and the cyclists will say it's unsafe and they'll use the road.
It is a pure waste of money and resources. Resources that could be put to work on other road projects that would actually be valued by most.
It's such a bad decision. Hard shoulders are good. If my phone rings or my car is breaking down, I could just pull into the hard shoulder. Car or bus breaks down now? Everything will be backed up for ages.
I have been enjoying my Lidl trips to other shops. Clane is nice, Leixlip less nice, Kilcock I didn't like at all. Must give Celbridge a go next!
How do you know they were commuter cyclists? Did you stop them and ask them all?
Don't think there's many leisurely cyclists cycling at 7am with a backpack.

Trees are protected on that part of the canal i.e. no choppy choppy and diggy diggy.

The council estate that is being built across from maxol on Straffan Road is getting closer to completion. Wondering if anyone here has heard more about it? Kildare county council own the site. I'm delighted to see more housing but I've concerns about it.

Council built and owned (as opposed to buying it off a developer) social housing, first set built in Maynooth in nearly 30 years which is insane.

Serious concerns. All social which is the main concern. Also youngsters from maynooth i know ( guards, teachers) cant afford to buy in Maynooth yet these brand new Arated houses are been given to people for next or nothing. Its wrong really.
Also the IPAS thing is a concern too.

What evidence do either of you have that local authority houses are given to IPAs? and an IPA estate at that.
IPAS provides accommodation to people who have applied for international protection. They are not on KCC's housing list.
An IPA who has been given permission to stay might make it onto the housing list I suppose.
Well what evidence do you have that they don't give it to IPAS applicants? I only asked a question, Im not an expert on the matter, which is why I'm asking about it. Looking around the country, you can see that the government have shoe-horned in IPAS centers everywhere.
IPAS applicants are housed in places with catering etc, not houses/apartments.

By the way, I confirmed with the councillor that the estate won't be IPAS and is only for those on the housing list.

Who said they were afraid of IPAS? I certainly am not I just pointed out accommodation less than 50km from Maynooth that was built as regular housing and the local/Wicklow councillors are claiming is for IPAS. What have I posted about social housing??
