The US military wouldn’t even stand up for its own veterans who are being disrespected and shat upon (not for the first time either) again by the Trump regime
All of the nonsense about checks and balances has been exposed to be just that nonsense
We are in a hilarious situation now where the king of a monarchy like UK actually has less power and has more checks and balances on him than the elected dictator of US
The last remaining check is the private capital market where investors vote with their money, and even those are freefall as everybody is running for exits to saner shores

Remember, he had called Lukashenko for an impromptu press-conference just to make Trump's envoy Witkoff wait for 8 hours before meeting him and just waffle about guarantees to Russia. Now he pisses on Trump and Trump just meekly agrees to ask Ukraine to stop hitting Russian energy infrastructure and may be even stop decimating Putin's precious Black Sea fleet. The stupidity of this is staggering, as Putin would be doing what Trump could have demanded, if only Trump had the balls to demand anything.

What unlawful orders has the US military decided to comply with? Where has the idea that the US military has indicated it will follow any unlawful orders even come from? I don't recall any General standing up and saying "we shall do this thing (which is unlawful)."
If the civilian leadership wants to ruin the country's military alliances, run the economy into the ground, or do whatever else Trump is up to that folks, even us in the military, aren't a fan of, that is a lawful policy decision not within the purview of the military to prevent. I can see some slow-rolling happening, work to rule, whatever, but the bottom line is that there are processes in the system to address those concerns, if it is the will of the voters to do so, and the use of the military isn't one of them.
One of the highest-held US values (that you decry are being ignored) is that the military is subordinate to civilian leadership. Indeed, it was one of the stronger emphasis in the formation of the country with great restrictions on the military, its functions, and its size. From the Third Amendment to Posse Comitatus, few other nations have such limits on its military.

I'd argue that no order received since Trump's inauguration was lawful. Your country is being ruled by a foreign backed agent, elected despite evidence of foreign interference in his last election and whose "win" this time was highly suspicious but isn't being challenged by a completely impotent "opposition" party, the leadership of which are acting as if they're also under foreign influence (or have been intimidated into collusion with them).
The patriotic thing for the US Military to do is put bullets in Trump, Musk, Thiel and Vance. Declare martial law and invite UN election monitors in to hold a free and fair election for the presidency.
Milley didn't say he'd stop the nukes from flying, mind, or that he would refuse a lawful order. (He would not have been in a position to do so anyway, as he wasn't in the chain of command).

My position, and I strongly suspect that it's not a minority one, is that whether you or I or anyone else like it or not, the man was duly elected, inaugurated, and is in the position of leadership of the civilian government. It is up to the legal mechanisms of the nation to remove or censure him if deemed appropriate, not the illegal ones which aren't any better.
That's the be-all and end-all as far as I'm concerned.
So you claim illegal acts with no evidence to back it up? Don't get me wrong, Trump isn't morally fit to hold office - but he has been elected. As Trump failed to do last time, if you claim that the election was rigged etc - provide the proof?

Yes the American people knew/ suspected Trump was a Russian agent when they elected him and it’s being confirmed before their eyes as we speak. There are no mass protests on the street or serious opposition to him. The American people do not care that their president is a Russian agent. It doesn’t matter to them. Some Americans do . But the Majority don’t. It’s hard for us on this side of the world to grasp that and accept it . But that is the reality.
You're suggesting the assassination of a sitting president based on reasoning without concrete evidence. Easy to say when you wouldn't be the one facing the death penalty.

Trump has ridden roughshod over "the legal mechanisms of the nation to remove or censure him". Legislators have already voted to confirm thoroughly unqualified candidates to cabinet positions out of fear for their personal safety. The legal avenues to remove the traitor-in-chief currently occupying the oval office are closed off.
The only options left are either (a) illegal (b) send thoughts and prayers to victims of this regime, hope you don't personally become a victim, prepare for an election in 2028 that may never happen while a Russian agent guts your country's institutions to the extent that even IF you get free and fair elections in the future and manage to oust them, rebuilding those institutions will be so expensive and take so long that it'll likely take more than a single term.
Apologies, I left out option C: follow orders under the pretext that they're "legal" and find yourself acting as part of an invasion force waging war on an actual democracy that once considered your country an ally, waiting until you're given an order that contravenes the Geneva Convention to protest? How does that end? With you being summarily shot for refusing orders? It's not like you'd get your day in court for your court martial: the Russian Asset in charge has already gutted JAG.
The President and Congress also take oaths to uphold the Constitution. How have those held up? Words are wind. Who will be the deciding authority on when an order is deemed unconstitutional? The private, their NCO? The company cmdr, perhaps their General? Trump and his lapdog Sec Def have already replaced the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs with a factually unqualified lackey. He's not going to gainsay anything that Trump demands.

Bearing in mind that it's 'the market', 'tech bros' and economics that got Trump elected in the first place, and given that they are the front line of the assault on liberal democracy across the globe, how many of us will put our actions where our words are and hand in our notices to US companies that kow tow to Trumps demands to castrate DEI and how many of us have ditched X, Facebook, WhatsApp, Amazon, Instagram etc? That's where the source of Trump's power begins and ends, and us, the great unwashed, are pretty quick to point fingers at what others should do and pretty slow to actually do anything ourselves. I see Amazon.ie has launched, to further undermine many indigenous Irish retailers… will the people wringing their hands about foreigners and the rise of the super rich stick with Irish retailers or will they give their custom to Bezos to save themselves a Euro or two?
