I'm terrible at tasting notes, my main feedback is that I liked it enough to buy a second bottle :)
Have you tasted anything else finished in Moscatel cask eg Dingle Samhain?
It's an easy sipper, slight tang \ fruitiness from the sweet dessert wine cask.
Will try it out but suspect that'll be way too sweet for me.
Makers Mark if I'm feeling generous, otherwise Four Roses.
Brown sugar cube muddled with bitters and water. Large ice cube and the whiskey. Orange twist and a maraschino cherry.
^ Brown Sugar Syrup is a game changer.
Great for Old Fashioned or Iced Coffees.
For me, I get the orange hit in an Old Fashioned via two steps-
Years ago I tried all the high street bourbons and although Buffalo Trace is my preference for a high street sipping bourbon, I found that Makers Mark was the one I found most moreish in an Old Fashioned.
Twist of salt on top of the ice in an Old Fashioned adds a bit of zing
Where are you getting a litre for 35?
Berlin airport
Recommendations for bourbon lads readily available here
If there is an OBriens near you see if they have any Eagle Rare 10 still in stock. Sold out online as on offer at €42.

Bulleit, Makers Mark, Buffalo Trace have their fans also.
Hard to look past Buffalo Trace for me a decent budget option if you can find it is Four Roses
Tesco up north £19.50/70cl if you have a Tesco UK clubcard. One of their better regular offers.
got given 2 bottles of this at Xmas would it be worth money in a few years time
No, I would drink them or re- gift them.
In Silo, bourbon from the 'before times' is very valuable so you might get lucky.
Anyone given this a go? I'll have to wait till lents finished to give it a swirl.
Don’t you know everyone ( Irish ?!) gets a special pass on Paddy’s Day to break their Lenten ‘pledge’ ?!:-) Anyway I’ve left it a bit late to pick up a new bottle namely this :

Dunnes Stores ‘exclusive’ Great Oaks 46%
A bit of a mystery I had high hopes this was Tesco Finest Irish Single Malt under another label but it ain’t .I was slightly concerned it would be pants but it’s not .The West Cork ID in microscopic print was concerning but it’s solid stuff .Definitely the best they’ve done in recent years .The linked review covers it mostly .Funny he describes Ireland being ‘in a state of lockdown’ due to Storm Emma /The Beast from the East in 2018…little did we know what was to follow :-(
ALDI Maynooth has Ardfallen10 that delicious sweet dessert wine finished €30 drop ( also West Cork sourced ….but is it their latest distillate since they went fully ‘in house ‘.
Anyway I would prefer the Ardfallen 10 to this Great Oaks stuff but I’m happy enough to have picked it up for €28 exploiting a family members sinful 20% off everything staff discount .I don’t know if I’d go to €35 though , nearly sure I wouldn’t .A BlackBush is about as pleasant although this stuff does as the reviewer says have a lovely bit of 46% heat .
Its a bit ‘tricky’ the way they describe it as ‘single cask’ even though its a blend of grain and malt .I assumed it was a single malt ….
Id rank this stuff on a par with Bush 10 so its by no means ‘disappointing’ but its a competitive market
West Cork could be doing some cracking stuff in a few years ( yes , I’m changing my whining tune about them !)
Slainte !
wonder would this be worth much
not yet - i'm waiting for the staff at my local SV to tire of seeing a solitary bottle on the shelf and put it on sale.
Well I wish I'd have thought of that instead of giving my local Centra 90 of my hard earned Euros.
90 euro!
Well, I hope it doesn't disappoint. Certainly an unusual finish.
90 isnt bad, i got it when it first came out as travel retail exclusive in the airport and paid 99! And that was still only the 700ml! They never did a 1L release!
what do you think of it?
I heard they are talks of up to 100 redundancies in Midleton. A lot of older staff will happily take the payout but the hits might keep on coming in the Irish Whiskey market over the next few years.
I'm not sorry I didn't get anywhere in landing a job there over the last couple of years. It will be last in, first out, no doubt!
maybe not.
The opposite would probably be better from management's POV alright. The senior lads will be the ones costing the most money. If this is about cost saving they could be the ones they're hoping to show the door to.
There used to be a strong union there back along, not sure if there still is but unions would insist on seniority getting preference.
I took a break from drinking for the past 2 months, but treated myself tonight to a little selection of samples (mostly based on items that were recently highlighted on offer in the Bargain Alerts drinks thread). Ranking them in order of preference, even though I must say I enjoyed them all.
