It was IMO. The Law and Justice party (PiS) that lost last election had put in train a lot of the kind of stuff that rotted Hungary and led it to where it is now. Taking control of, and corrupting, both the media and the courts, pushing their "culture war" stuff to frighten and mobilise voters.
I don't think we have any party like that (Fidesz or PiS) next nor near taking power here in Ireland. We can also imagine how they (PiS) would have been emboldened in pushing forward their agendas more aggressively, were they in power now while Trump is US President.
Main difference IMO (between them and Fidesz or indeed the US Republicans) is that the Polish right-populist/budding autocratic party hates and mistrusts Russia and Putin (so would be in a sticky wicket with US pro Russian policy that is emerging). It's impossible for them to cozy up to Russia.
Ironically however, they are a tool that serves Putin's purposes in Europe perfectly by undermining and fracturing the EU and damaging Poland's relations with Germany + overall (considering the bigger picture) they probably actually increase the danger to Poland from Russia!
That pair must be delighted with the way things are going now .
I did, but not my fault the question was poorly posed.
It allowed me, however, to emphasize my point.
The US miltary is a professional, apolitical organization which will obey all lawful orders from the duly appointed authority to the letter, whether we like them or not, either individually or as an organization. That includes stopping working with Ukraine, ceasing training with NATO, renaming Ft Benning or sabre rattling against Canada by sending troops to the border. (Which doubtless in practice would also make use of their time by helping Border Patrol just as they are on the Southern border). I doubt anyone on here would want it any other way.
There is, however, a MONUMENTAL world of difference between "going to the border" and "invade Canada" which goes way beyond "you know what was meant." You may trivialize it, I assure you the military won't. Absent jus ad bellum (i.e Canada doing something extremely unlikely) , any order to use miltary force against Canada would get as far as General Guillot and stop.
[ETA. To be clear, I find the chances of any such order to be placed to begin with as astronomically low]

Oh and I’m starting to suspect the Russians are deliberately handing out meatgrinders to mums of fallen soldiers to hijack search engine rankings
He will accept this deal, because Trump will force him to do so – with tighter sanctions, of the kind we saw last night; with the promise of unlimited support for Ukraine; and with the threat of taking those $300 billion of frozen Russian assets.
Will believe it when I see it but even if Trump does put on the squeeze in this way I'm not convinced Putin will bend
My in-laws are Polish and vote for PiS, they have a strong displike of Tusk and scepticism of the EU, but value NATO since they absolutely see the imminent threat from Russia (I wont get started on EU membership/funding, PiS trying to exert unlawful influence over the courts, or Trump piece….). Any Brexit type rhetoric is, however, quelled by the fact that

Trump is going to look like a proper idiot soon (never mind the fact that he already does.)
We're all waiting for the moment Trump lays down the law to Putin, will it come, if not then the media should be going in hard on the '' coward'' headlines for Trump.
Media has a lot of power over Trump, he'd hate to be labelled a coward
Report that Trump is not satisfied with signing of mineral deal with the US by Zelenskyy and wants Ukraine to give up territory to putin's terrorists before restarting assistance from the USA. Seems very likely to me now that Trump thinks he has a better mineral deal agreed with putin so the more territory putin controls the more money Trump thinks he can make.
The one sided talk from Trump about the conflict since being elected can only mean he now sees there being more money in it for him if putin wins and he is just pushing the Ukrainians as much as he can to get a reaction that allows him have something to legitimise siding with terrorists.

Well there's no point in signing anything when Trump is also saying he doesn't think Ukraine can eject Russia even with US aid.
Looks like Putin holds all the cards on Trump.
what an utter scumbag Musk is.
Planet Earth would do far better if that man was no longer inhabiting it.
Should not be news to anyone who has followed Musk over recent years
The problem with these mentally deficient people is they think the world is a John Wayne movie. They really do.
Or else he wants to get all of what Ukraine has, plus what ever Putin will give him. While underlying factor is that all of it belongs to Ukraine.
So summarise, Trump wants:
In returns for Ukrainians getting absolutely nothing not even a guarantee that Russia won’t return for more
Trump is like a joker card

US Vice President Vance's cousin, Nate Vance, fought for Ukraine as part of the Da Vinci Wolves.
At least someone in that family has a backbone and a sense of doing the right thing.
Why does anyone still think Trump wants a peace deal? He is fully supporting Putin, end of. He may also want some deal on minerals or other resources, but that's really secondary to making sure that he rescues Putin.
If the US is out of the game, then there is no reason to sign that minerals deal. Zelesnky should just cut all ties with Trump, he's of no use.
GOP senator warns against pulling plug on Ukraine
It really is that bizarre. Even the Russian media are saying that the chances of a ceasefire this year are remote, not unless Zelensky was to cede everything to Russia as per Trump's wishlist.
Everyone on here giving out about trump and Vance 😆 without America ireland is f**ked would ever you like it or not. Its sh*te talking big on this forum.
"would ever you like".
Hmm.
👍 😊

Pity Bernie didn't run against Trump in 2016
And Russia has not agreed or even addressed a single thing yet either. We don't know what they will settle for but we know what Trump wants to settle for.
I think it was Bolton who said in an interview recently that Trump's lackeys are competing to be the master's outright favourite at the moment. That was the rationale behind Vance's baiting of Zelensky. Musk and Rubio have now joined in with some trolling of Poland which ended with the usual Musk name-calling.

They do seem to be collectively trying to alienate every single European country (apart from Slovakia and Hungary).
"Their entire front line would collapse if I turned it off," Musk wrote.
