Whatever about Trump's ability to ignore the idiot masses, if he continues tanking the stock market, driving inflation, **** up supply chains and torpedoing global trade, he is going to get the backs up of a huge swathe of traditional Republican backers. Our only hope is that that leads to some defections in Congress.

They already are, I can say that for sure for Rheinmetall and Diehl Defense AG, the latter being the company behind the IRIS-T-SLM SAM system. Rheinmetall has been opening new assembly lines for artillery shells over the last few years whilst Hensoldt has been adding new assembly lines for IRIS-T. Also, I wasn't aware until recently that a number of assembly plants for tanks, APCs and IFVs had been mothballed, rather than being demolished. There are also several final assembly lines for aircraft in Germany that have been mothballed or re-purposed over the years, I'm thinking of PFW Aerospace at Speyer airport, the town where my parents used to live. That facility currently produces hydraulic lines for Airbus, but the facility used to be a final assembly line for the CH-53 helicopter, and from what I remember, a number of buildings on the site are unused and could be reactivated if need be. So I guess there's still quite a bit of surge capacity in the defence sector that can be used.
There are of course long-lead items like gun barrels for tanks and artillery that require quite a bit of lead time, and retooling assembly lines is also not something that can happen overnight. But the sites and general facilities are there, so EU defence companies wouldn't have to start from scratch.

Another one I recall was shown on Austrian news about Ukrainian forces dragging a student out of a lecture for "conscription", it was a 21 year old guy who had crossed the border 9 times being arrested.
Another one was a guy in a park - it was security forces detaining an agent in Odesa.
Conscription is happening in Ukraine, any conscription is difficult, and there have been some issues - but Russian propaganda seizes on any video, inside Ukraine or from another part of the world entirely, where they can depict a narrative that Ukrainian forces are dragging people off the street.
The US stockpiles will need to be replenished. There will be no shortage of orders in the short term.
It's interesting however that the so-called pacifists in the US as regards responding to today's Russian aggression are still nonetheless all too happy to claim the legacy of wars for freedom when people did actually stand up to tyranny no matter the cost.
Trump has repeated accused us in the EU of only coming together to screw the US. This is not the language of a friend.
