People thought it was game over in February 2022.
Ukraine is not without its own military tradition. When the USSR was in Afghanistan Ukraine and Russia both made up 30% of the force, the other 40% came from other Soviet and Warsaw bloc countries.
There's recently shuttered car plants in Germany that can be quickly repurposed whereas Russia is not able to replenish their multimillion dollar tanks that are destroyed by the much cheaper evolving drone capabilities.
By far though the biggest displacement of Trumps betrayal is the effect it's going to have on US military contractors. There's going to be a lot of staff from such firms looking to jump to where the business is, Europe.
Here's one guy's (presumably informed) opinion
without American military aid, "we will last six months," said Lieutenant-General Ihor Romanenko, former first deputy of the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, to Al-Jazeera on February 17, during the Munich Conference. "Europe can't possibly replace American aid," he added.
”We” aren’t at war with anyone. Ukraine should have been left to fall. Not our problem.
Definitely Star link as if they turned that off the Ukrainians would notice that straight away. Hopefully this doesn't happen. More Russian drones will eventually find their targets as well if less to shot them down, that might happen fast enough as well.
Would you give over ffs. Russian propaganda. Their own (UKR) citizens are fighting back against it. Are they Russian spies?? Are they on the side of the Russian spies??
Biden, I presume?
Yes but they need to have stuff ready to go.
if trumped blocked that he would make a lot of powerful domestic enemies.
Its Europes problem when we have to cope with millions of Ukranian refugees.
Europe could use its weapons market as a bargaining chip to get America to stand up for Ukraine(and Europe)
"Support Ukraine or lose your weapons industry"
Trump has repeated accused us in the EU of only coming together to screw the US. This is not the language of a friend.
I'm sure Michael Martin is preparing for some kind of dressing down next week, and if Trump accuses us of anything it will hard not to feel that our century of military no alignment was only ever by circumstance.
It's interesting however that the so-called pacifists in the US as regards responding to today's Russian aggression are still nonetheless all too happy to claim the legacy of wars for freedom when people did actually stand up to tyranny no matter the cost.
The US stockpiles will need to be replenished. There will be no shortage of orders in the short term.

Another one I recall was shown on Austrian news about Ukrainian forces dragging a student out of a lecture for "conscription", it was a 21 year old guy who had crossed the border 9 times being arrested.
Another one was a guy in a park - it was security forces detaining an agent in Odesa.
Conscription is happening in Ukraine, any conscription is difficult, and there have been some issues - but Russian propaganda seizes on any video, inside Ukraine or from another part of the world entirely, where they can depict a narrative that Ukrainian forces are dragging people off the street.
First they came for the Ukranians and I did not speak out because I was not Ukranian…
If somebody does not stand up to Putin at some stage could we (or Iceland) be the last to fall?
no we've never seem the like of trump before and i for one really hope we never see the likes of him and his gangsters again,id hope somewhere in america saner heads are finally saying enough of this shite…myself i think Zelensky is a hero,he couldve bailed at the start of this (i think either america or the english offered him a plane but he refused) but instead stayed in his country to lead his people against the russian invasion and i think he's doing a good job of it…when donnie vonshitzinpants and his sidekick rounded on him i think that was the end of any deal or help from america and i do think it was planned by the people that bought the presidency and stuck new yorks village idiot in the seat along with the other gobshites…a part of Zelenskys visit to the king a lot have missed is sandringham is his(charlies) weekender,i wouldnt know any thing about the protocol but its a big deal and i think the king has to ask for it to happen so i doubt it was given as a kind of booby prize…as for the rest, yeah ALL of europe(including us in ireland) need to start arming up,stop buying from america, europe has a massive arms industry, time to build it up again with the upshot of more employment too…sorry for the rant but im tired of hearing donnie bawling over the radio before ive had my coffee!!
One word: ASML
The single European company which all of US AI and Tech depends on
Musk is planning cutting US defence spending by about 10% and already tweeting about programs like F35
The US defence industry is fucked both home and now abroad
They already are, I can say that for sure for Rheinmetall and Diehl Defense AG, the latter being the company behind the IRIS-T-SLM SAM system. Rheinmetall has been opening new assembly lines for artillery shells over the last few years whilst Hensoldt has been adding new assembly lines for IRIS-T. Also, I wasn't aware until recently that a number of assembly plants for tanks, APCs and IFVs had been mothballed, rather than being demolished. There are also several final assembly lines for aircraft in Germany that have been mothballed or re-purposed over the years, I'm thinking of PFW Aerospace at Speyer airport, the town where my parents used to live. That facility currently produces hydraulic lines for Airbus, but the facility used to be a final assembly line for the CH-53 helicopter, and from what I remember, a number of buildings on the site are unused and could be reactivated if need be. So I guess there's still quite a bit of surge capacity in the defence sector that can be used.
There are of course long-lead items like gun barrels for tanks and artillery that require quite a bit of lead time, and retooling assembly lines is also not something that can happen overnight. But the sites and general facilities are there, so EU defence companies wouldn't have to start from scratch.
Yes. Most of their nuclear arsenals are missiles on board nuclear submarines. Just one sub can extinguish all the major urban centres in Russia.
I would'nt be very confident in Russia's anti-ballistic missile defences.
Ukraine have had groups of soldiers patrolling communities stopping men of a certain age for quite some time now- it’s nothing new- it’s necessary too. If I were a young Ukrainian male who had “escaped” from Ukraine in the early days, I’m not sure how welcome I’d be returning when this is all over - I reckon it will divide society in time.
The loss of demand from NATO members who are investing instead within the EU will reduce the economy of scale for US manufacturers.
Poland is paying for the subsriptions and for the terminals. They have also ordered billions worth of US military goodies.
They would have words to say, lawyers to unleash and contracts to cancel.
Poland's Deputy Prime Minister Krzysztof Gawkowski has stated that he does not believe it is possible to disconnect the Starlink satellite communication terminals in Ukraine, which are funded by the Polish side.Source: Gawkowski on X (Twitter), as reported by European PravdaDetails: Gavkowski emphasised that Poland has transferred the purchased Starlink terminals to Ukraine and will continue to pay the subscription fees for satellite internet for Ukraine.Quote: "I cannot imagine anyone deciding to terminate a business contract for a commercial service in which Poland is a party."

And if all that isn't enough, The EU can always shut down the 25 Starlink ground stations in Europe.
If true, the question will be: How long Trump will stay president?
If US mega companies feel the pinch, there will be consequences.
I think it's not long before people who matter in the US realise that the Krasnov allegations are actually true and that their president is a traitor. This is not going to last another 4 years.
Our share price took an awful tumble and will be restructured because of that orange pr1ck
No one will be buying their obsolete crap. They can pay to decommission their own relics now rather than have Ukraine pay for the privilege.
Who in Europe wants US equipment when support can stop on a whim? Or worse that they are disabled by a software update?
They've pressed self destruct on their own industry. Europe will hopefully buy/build European options now.
I used to think the same but they are like German industry and industrialists who enthusiastically backed Hitlers party in 1930s only to pay dearly for it

JP Morgan rang the alarm bells by calling Trump administration as “business unfriendly”
Bloomberg are openly calling them “revolutionary ideologists who don’t care for business” and discussing black swans such as Trump admin defaulting on US debt with what now being regularly called “Maro Lago Accords”
We’ve been concentrating on US Ukraine but I suspect Trumps pivot to Kremlin and general volatility will have much much larger repercussions on US economy
1.5 trillion wiped off the S&P yesterday alone
Note how Putin hasn't lifted a finger yet and has gotten more than he ever could have wished for from the Trump admin.
Aaaaannd we’re back to schroedingers Russia. Their army is dilapidated, losing too many men, need North Korean soldiers and are fighting with shovels, and can’t get out of Eastern Ukraine
BUT
are also a threat to the whole of Europe. No one is buying it anymore. Nonsense propaganda that if we don’t enrich the arms companies something terrible will happen.
