Zelenskyy should have stood down when Trump was elected.
I'd like to see Trump make belittling jibes to Klitschko about how he's dressed.
I had to misfortune to overhear Neil Prenderville while in a shop in Cork and his great wisdom was that Zelensky doesn't want peace and poor donald was only trying to help.
He really did sprout all the Putin lines while excluding actual facts.
At least SOME bit of potential good news on this front. Glad to see EUROPE taking this on. Ukraine using Starlink on the frontlines is a clear and present danger to them now
"It’s happening—Europe is building its own Starlink by leveraging existing infrastructure like GovSatCom, Eutelsat, Hispasat, and SES while redefining the scope of IRIS²."
time to face facts It’s rUSsiA now - or actually R u s S I a - Trump and MAGA now out in the open. Hope America is pleased.
it really is going to be nukes for all, it’s the only sane thing to do now.
and nothing to do with the fact that a pro Putin stooge comes from nowhere with bags of cash flooding social media trying to get a foothold in Romania? Riiiight…
Note too btw, how actual coups are attempted(and are far more likely to work) and both the "West" and the Soviets learned this in Cold War 1. That is; get individuals friendly to your cause/in your pocket to take power, either by force(military juntas), or through influencing democratic elections, NOT through mass movements of people. Oh they can certainly be exploited(historically by financial backing and sending your troops in to "support them"), but they're notoriously difficult to aim and control.
Exactly, it was a pre-planned attack on Zelenskyy, designed to give Trump an excuse to blame Ukraine for Trump's failure to "end the war in 24 hours/100 days".
However, Zelenskyy did make a mistake by speaking to Trump in English. He should have used a translator, that would give him time to react more calmly to Vance's and Trump's bulling tactics.
Alongside Trump no Doubt .. in fact Putin, Trump, Xi and Kim all in a cosy line at the main viewing stand
"Israel invited to Russia’s May 9 parade, while 'unfriendly' nations excluded .. Absolutely shameful!"
is it though?
It’s fact that if even a fraction of that happened in a western state with Russian influence we would be shouting manipulation disinformation hybrid warfare from the rooftops. In fact that was just done and had an election annulled. On the most dubious of justifications. See Romania. Of course nothing to do with the massive NATO base being built there atm.
That’s just utterly depressing.
The colour revolution part/coup was spin(though autocrats like Putin see them as the boogeyman). They're famously difficult to pull off. Look at the CIA/America's actual record in this. At best they've convinced top military types who already controlled a state's military with bags of cash to support their side and even that didn't always go to plan. They've had zero success with kicking off large scale civilian movements where such movements wanting change didn't already exist. Indeed during the Cold War the Soviets were more successful with influencing coups. QV the Cold War history of South American nations. So certainly the US were only to happy to exploit a large scale pre-existing movement, but they didn't kick it off, and they certainly couldn't have sustained it across numerous internationally scrutinised elections for nearly a decade. That's just nonsense.
What a scumbag. Note to other countries: American promises mean sh1t. Get yourself a decent arsenal and some nukes.
And, if Trump and Vance were better diplomats, politicians, or even just bog standard human beings, they would have recognised it was becoming a shitshow and stopped it - for everyone's sake!
Fascinating how both MAGA and Russia have one thing in common
They always blame the victims of crimes perpetrated by criminals who are often themselves
IMO it is "Ukraine poked the Bear" again (i.e. diplomacy was not tried, Ukraine provoked Russia, and is responsible for Putin invading it) along with criticism of Biden. Kremlin talking points in the mouth of Vance.
Why does the US Vice President start with Russian points and a rant about the previous President and his policies in a public meeting with leader of Ukraine anyway (a leader he knows has reason to be grateful to Biden)?
Zelenskyy is a supplicant to the US and badly wants something from Trump, but don't see why he has to sit and say nothing to correct lies, any more than Macron should take the lies from this admin. about low levels of European aid to Ukraine cf the US, or Starmer accept lies about free speech (or freedom generally) in the UK.
Anyway, why stop there? I found this article with the rest of it that followed afterwards. It really was the most incredibly boorish and ugly display from Trump and Vance. There's no excuse for it. I don't see how anyone can justify the US President and Vice President behaving this way with leader of another country in public (still a US ally no less - though for how much longer?).
I listened to pieces of it, but found it a tough watch. It was revolting, and made my skin crawl.

It may be understandable given that Trump seems to create headlines every 3 seconds but it would appear that people have forgotten that — before Zelenskyy got anywhere near that press conference— Trump had already called him a dictator and blamed Ukraine for starting the war. Trump and his administration, long before Zelenskyy sat in that chair, had publicly and quite clearly aligned themselves with the Putin narrative of the war. Oh and there's also the minor detail that Trump wants to exclude Ukraine from peace talks entirely while simultaneously pretending that Zelenskyy is an obstacle to peace.
This is the context in which Zelenskyy walked into that building, yet people are acting like the Oval Office exchange must be analysed as some moment in time, devoid of context, and the merits of the entire dynamic of current US policy can be analysed purely by analysing this one moment.
Yes, a pragmatic uber-coolheaded ideal would have been for Zelenskyy to sit there in silence and let Trump disgrace himself to his heart's content. But the man's crime in the eyes of Trump and MAGA is that he was a "President with b***s" who stood up for his country — the very thing the MAGA crowd is praising Trump for (in Trump's case 'standing up for his country' against a far weaker country under military occupation and fighting for its very survival).
I see Musk and Trump and trying to change how US gdp is measured now
European countries should now then put Ukraine aid as defence spending % of their GDP
Tis only fair
Sends a nice message to the Russians. Nowhere is safe. Get out of Ukraine.
By the time you add up all the money likes of Norway spent on Ukraine which deals with Russian Nazis more efficiently than F35s
Norways defence spending is way above 2%
This rude attack is obviously all on Vance and Trump, maybe they even pre-planned it.
But Zelensky could have done better. He seemed to suggest that supporting Ukraine also helps defend the US, despite the ocean in between (or something like that) - which really triggered Trump. Who said "don't tell us what we should feel", maybe he interpreted it as a threat.
I think Zelensky can make that case to (Eastern) European countries, that defence of Ukraine helps their own defence. But most of the US aid has been altruistic really. He knows it is a very sensitive topic in the US and there are many questioning the level of US aid being given.
Zelensky could have kept quiet, thanked them for the support, say Ukraine are ready for peace but they do have red lines which he outlined privately in their meeting. The minerals deal is a historic day, shows our cooperation etc. etc.
But overall he has been excellent in the last few years. In Washington he was probably still jetlagged, speaking in English which isn't even his second language and it got a bit chaotic with everybody talking at the same time.
I agree generally with this post. Just a note, Musk can't ever be POTUS. Not born there. He will of course remain as a malign influence and bad actor. Vance is the danger man though.
I was quite surprised to read that Norway spends less than 2% of GDP on defence.
Firstly because of their wealth, but secondly they share a land and sea border with an openly hostile Russia.
All the other countries bordering Russia spend huge amounts on defence.
But @Wibbs that wasnt just Kremlin 'spin', she was there and so were numerous other politicians US & EU and she did in fact say those things in that infamous phone call where they discussed who should be installed as leader next. Just because Russia says or claims a thing doesnt automatically make it 'unhappen' or untrue.
Interesting read here on some more 'talking points' and in particular about US goals. It wasnt just Trump who fkd Ukraine.

They don't care. Vance is a protege of Peter Thiel, a man who believes that capitalism and democracy are incompatible, and has made his billions through the military contracts for Palantir. The Russian style of capitalism, where there's a handful of oligarchs marching in lockstep with a nationalist, conservative state suits them down to the ground.
We must be careful of not falling down the well engineered Kremlin memory hole tactic.
When this kicked off and over the course of the Donbas conflict they most certainly blamed the US. Their spin doctors were all about how the US/CIA engineered Maidan with Nuland handing out bread to the protestors(and saying "fúck the EU") looking to run another colour revolution to undermine Russia. In Russian spin NATO was the US even installing the infamous, but strangely invisible biolabs, with added bioweaponised pigeons on Mother Russia's border. Europe and the EU were only their lapdogs.
It was only later when it looked like Their Man© might get in that they increased anti EU spin. Now that he's in and mirroring Kremlin talking points and aims they're pivoting to it wasn't the US' fault after all. Even NATO itself is dropping down their list of targets with the US musing about leaving(and I suspect they will, or simply state they won't respect the articles going forward). Now after they've defanged the US administration, the Kremlin views Europe as the singular Enemy©. They're the only ones openly resisting them.
Speaking of spheres
The meme-o-sphere is destroying them
He was attacked even before he went into the Oval Office. It WAS an ambush. This will go down as the most grotesque denigration of the American presidential office in history. Already tens of millions of Americans are outraged.
Toretsk, encirclement
how does one say “encirclement” in Russian?
Norway, hold my beer
In the last few weeks we have had a number of leaders correct Trump. Let him lie to his MAGA disciples - who are easily led - but there's no way any leader should allow him the stage to lie without correcting him.
No way should Zelensky have to sit there - in front of the MAGA media - and acknowledge the shite that was coming from the Trump Administration. And it was nonsense.
There has been little from Trump/Vance since. I'm aware they are on 'holiday' but they are only too aware that they looked weak and stupid on the world stage.
Vance should never be allowed in the same breathing space as Zelensky again. As for Rubio, Waltz and the rest of the circus they sooner they share a plane with a faulty engine the better.
