How is Europe upping it's militarisation not going to help Ukraine? It could lead to supplying them more weapons and support...?
American is every bit as untrustworthy than Russia. You can't trust America again even if a Democrat becomes President.
For me, Zelenskyy can hold his head high for how he conducted himself. A strong leader who defended himself and his country in that farce of a meeting.
#TeamZelensky
If it's any consolation I'd say the Russians are as wary of Trump as the rest of us. From what you read they worry him to be a loose cannon and what may seem favourable now could turn just like that. Putin himself even said it before the US election that while Biden is openly hostile he is at least a calculable factor like that.
FWIW while I agree with many of Trumps points and I also agree that Zelenksy seems to be still in cloud cuckoo land with the way he thinks about the war and possible outcomes - the way this was done was disgraceful. Disagreements like this can happen but then they must happen behind closed doors and then you can come out saying there are still differences to be ironed out, but it should not happen before the press. You do not to try to humiliate someone like that, Trump did himself no favours here at all.
It is not Zelenskyy's fault, or any failure by him. To imply it is is unfair.
This is just what the USA is now under this admin. , and it is really, really ugly.
They don't want to support Ukraine any more and it looks like they won't, even if paid handsomly to do so, like a mercenary or a hired thug.
Putin must offer more I suppose.
Zelensky it his credit did not punch the fuxker there and then, incredible self restraint
He also ran circles around him verbally despite English not being his language
But seeing markets are continuing to freefall I suspect not long before Trump gets his ass slapped around by the markets
They weren't in remotely the same situation.
Trump pre-planned this. No amount of ring-kissing was going to stop what we just saw today.
At least one Donald likes him
Yep give it a few months and one of his fired cabinet will reveal something along those lines.
From Tusk
Absolutely not, we should be prepared. Being prepared is not going to help Ukraine though.
Honestly , How do you handle that? Trump and Vance were lined up like the principal and vice principal giving a bold student a dressing down. And they took full advantage of their superior power dynamic in the situation. That’s exactly what they wanted to do. It was a crude show of strength.
How?
He was ambushed in the Oval office on live TV by Trump and Vance. It was an impossible situation designed to humiliate him on the international stage followed by a degrading business deal.
I agree with you. I think Zelensky's performance has been nothing short of remarkable since the war started, but he messed up today. Like him or loathe him, Trump—much like every narcissistic CEO in the world—is easily swayed by flattery, and I think Zelensky got this badly wrong. Experienced leaders like Starmer, Bibi, the King of Jordan, and Shigeru Ishiba played the game and got exactly what they wanted from Trump. His performance might appeal to some internet tough guys, but in real-world terms, it’s a massive loss. I'm not sure where Zelensky goes from here.
Yeah, no point flapping around and complaining about Trump. Step up for a neighbor or you can't claim any moral high ground.
We'll start to reconsider the resources we give them, are u for real?!
Half of Ireland would be living abroad only for their companies setting up here. We are a one trick pony utterly reliant on them
This really is a pivotal moment for Europe.
If the US starts to withdraw aid, it will look like Zelenskyy was correct in his accusations of Trump.
If Europe doesn't step up, then they are siding with the Russian sympathizer over the President who's country was invaded.
It's about being prepared for the worst, not 'intimidating Putin'.
So should we just remain unprepared?
nah **** that….tip toe around and grovel at the feet of that little **** is something no country let alone one fighting for their lives should be doing!! Fu(k trump and everyone who supports him!!
Russias economy is a mess.
When you have to lean on North Korea for help, you know that things aren't going well.
and what he really needs is a Molotov cocktail in close proximity to his orange head
Spain's economy is nearly as big as Russia, and that's on figures from before Putin invaded Ukraine.
What Trump really wants is a modern day Molotov–Ribbentrop Pact, where they split the country in half and rob the place.
We'll never know, but I'm not sure there was. They seemed to come into this with this as a deliberate outcome. They wanted to humiliate him. Maybe he should have taken it and grovelled at their feet but he's right not to trust them.
It also, obviously, flies in the face of everything Trump was saying yesterday.
The only way to handle Trump is to treat him like the 4 year old he is. Americans will regret the time that they chose to support a madman. Where are the decent Americans ?
Do you think Putin is going to be intimidated by that? If you were a dictator like Putin, in his position, would that stop you? Honestly?
just done the same, great idea. Evil triumphs when good people stand by and do nothing.
Ah yeah, I was being a bit facetious. But at the same time, we completely undervalue what we bring to the table in terms of enabling the US to have such dominance on the world stage. They'd find things a lot harder without us, not unlike why Russia needed its bases in Syria etc. I don't think there'd be any harm in us growing a pair and letting the US know that they can either act like allies and show a bit of gratitude and diplomacy, or we'll start to reconsider the resources we give them. For a start, lets reduce the dependency on US weapons/ systems and start developing our own.
Nah this was scripted to end like it did no matter what
There probably was a better way to handle Trump than that.
Yes, but probably not legal
