Before Trump's soiling of American democracy by being involved in it, the Americans could be trusted to a certain extent, but now they can't be trusted at all. There are too many nutters in the US administration, the biggest nutter being Trump himself. He's the biggest a-hole that ever sat in the Oval Office.
With the US regime the way it is I can see no point whatsoever in any Irish politician going over on a Paddy's Day trip to hand a bowl of shamrock to the Gobsh!te in Chief. It would be no different to someone taking one to Putin.

Macron fact checking Trump to his face during press questions was beautiful. He actually grabbed his arm and intervened to clarify how much Europe has contributed to Ukraine, brilliant.

Over 100 tons of gold has gone missing off the books of the Russian National Welfare Fund. This is as windfall oil money built up before the invasion of Ukraine has been dwindling. 358 tons was there at the start of 2024. That's now gone to 187 tons as of 1st Jan 2025. Reduced by 48%. But gold has been disappearing from the fund with no paper trail recorded for the months in 2024.

We need more of this. Every time he holds a press conference and tells a lie a reporter should yell out "lies", next time "more lies". Spread it around the room between different reporters. Drive him demented. He can't handle being challenged and if they kick all the reporters out then they shouldn't cover his pressers on the news. That will drive him over the edge. He needs the spotlight like a normal person needs water.
Unfortunately they only really care about ratings, they don't care about their country so it won't happen.
Makes a good point of the Russian frozen assets in Europe paying. Question should be asked of Trump "Why he won't settle for Russian assets in the US". "Why he's putting the burden on Ukraine instead of from Oligarch money in the US".
Ukraine will have to be rebuilt at the end of the day. It'll need every impediment to that goal removed massively.
No surprise at all. Israel (under Netanyahu) can be free to express themselves more openly and be just as pro Russia as they please now Trump is back and it's all okay, or even smiled on by the US.
I expect Orbán will be a thorn for the EU in coming weeks and months (i.e. at a potentially critical time). Well, that is what the other members get for putting off the dirty and unpleasant job of taking out the rubbish, not trying to deal properly with him & Hungary about 10 years ago.

Glad to see Europe on the offensive today, in Kyiv, in the White House. I sincerely hope the Ukrainians get something they can accept out of this.
Love the part where Macron mentions the hundreds of billions in frozen assets of the invader - that the Trump admin never once considered because they've been so busy trying to shake down the victim.
No one is forcing anyone to stay here in Ireland, if they are not happy, if they wish to return home, or to another country, I'm sure they'll find some way to fly as close as possible, and walk back across the border.
Trump's readout of the Macron meeting is a bit weird. Refers to PM Trudeau as "Governor Justin Trudeau". Still claiming that the war would never have happened on his watch, talking about recuperating the money spent on Ukraine, plus doing a deal with his mate Putin.

I suspect Ukraine are treading water until joint European proposal comes along and then they can legitimately say they got a better offer of support. With Merz and Pistorius in Germany there is a good chance of proper support which Scholz hindered up until now.
True. The ball really is in the EU's court. Step up now and they'll get more of the spoils then the US. The US should be begging Ukraine to take all their 30 year old military hardware which will cost Americans billions to dismantle in a few years.

I believe the minerals agreement is completely separate to the 'peace deal' that the Americans and Russians are supposedly negotiating. We know relatively little about the latter.
