I recently walked around Clonmel, I couldn't get over the all the closed premises. As a youngster I spent so much time in Gamestop but look at that area now, it's a sad state of affairs. Where has the investment gone? This is probably why they're building the modular homes to get more footfall…….. At least the government/local council has their priorities straight…

The biggest change since your time walking around GameStop etc, is on line shopping. It's very hard for most smaller shops to compete with online stores buying power.
…on the other hand there seems to be a boom in nail and beauty parlours, every second shop seems to full of women (never seen men, maybe they are there as well) getting their nails done.

A larger population is likely to increase footfall. A smaller population is likely to decrease footfall.
There certainly is that , however what will the disposable income of the people in the modular home be?
The towns disposable income will be higher than it was without the modular homes.

It can do, yes. More footfall generally leads to more spend.
The modular homes could also become more common and a solution to drive house completions upwards.

If indeed the residents are as many would have you believe, IPA then while they're maybe more people walking around and increasing footfall, their spending power will be very limited.
To your second point. Wil modular homes become more common. Id imagine that it's possible, and would help temporarily. However at an AVG cost of 440k for approx 600 sq, I'm not sure it actually makes financial sense to continue building them

Of course it is argued that they can be produced quicker, again the devil is in the detail of that, while they may be produced quicker in the factory, there's always the ground work including roads, lighting and sewer works that have to take place too.

the modular homes has nothing to do with the town centre so let’s get rid of that whataboutery straight away. Games stop closed their entire UK and Irish operations some years ago. Shame to see the shop being unused but as someone mentioned on line shopping is killing a lot of local businesses and shops.
We have also had zero success in promoting the town and have been ignored by government primarily because of the lack of a decent TD representing the town. Hopefully having 3 TDs in the Dail from the area might help although we’ve had 2 of them there exactly at the time the town has needed them most.
It looks like Mattie McGrath had the chance to negotiate things for Clonmel and Tipperary in return for his support of the government. But instead he has asked for his daughter Mairin to be given one of the Taoiseach's senate nominations and one his other children getting to keep Mairin's council seat. Worth about €110k a year or €550k over the term of the Dail to the McGrath family. And that's before expenses.
Now we know where his priorities lie.

Mairin ran for the Seanad but was eliminated in the count on Friday.
I was told about the deal to put her into the Seanad via the Taoiseach's nominations on Friday by a close associate of Mattie who lives in Newcastle. Mattie told his supporters that Mairin is getting a Taoiseach's nomination. That deal seems to be filtering into the media now as we saw in the Mail on Sunday article and also rumours are circulating among political correspondents etc on social media tonight. Basically there are enough sources now reporting it to be able to say there is something to it.

You seem to be a strong supporter of his. Why don't you tell us what he has gotten for the people of South Tipperary in this deal with the government because the only thing being reported and talked about is the deal for his family.

The only thing I know about is what has been reported online and in the media and that is the deal for the McGrath family. If there are things in there for the rest of the people of South Tipperary maybe they will come to light over time but at the moment there doesn't seem to be anything. You are extremely supportive of Mattie so we only have your word for the claim that you aren't part of his team. So again I ask that if you know anything please report it and if you can't defend what is being reported don't attack other posters for questioning a deal that looks very very iffy.

I heard recently that the price increase on the homes was mostly down to the increase in security for the site, and a number of acres nearby was bought and gifted to the neighbours who keep horses. Also compensation was given to these same neighbours.

Now as the OP made the statement, I don't think it's out of order to ask them for some supportive information about their claim.
Now of course this doesn't mean that their statement isn't true, it may well be.
So much for Mattie and his supporters spreading the news that Mairin would be a Taoiseachs nominee.
He may have asked, but was probably told to F**k off. Bear in mind that he has been one of Michael Martin's biggest critics in the Dail.
His influence isn't as great as he would lead you to believe.
