As suggested in other thread, starting new thread, to continue discussion, and reduce the issue of 'Vanilla Tremble' (…another great new Boards feature!!!).
After event, will merge threads.
500 customers remain without power and will do so for another night. That’s been a long week for them.
Snowing heavily here in Letterkenny ASL 154M
Picture I took yesterday afternoon of the north eastern side of the great sugar loaf, was a damn cold hike on the small one across the way
They really are burning the midnight oil in Ennis tonight. The county town of Clare is at the maximum level of 10 (very poor) on the Air Quality Index. Longford (9) also producing poor air quality results.
Then it hit almost 7.5 GW.
Thank goodness for solar panels and wind turbines, we'd be screwed, otherwise.
Does anyone have night heater that only comes on at 11.30pm.
I think it should come on at 11pm.
I know it's low down on peoples problems but still annoying.
Took this picture yesterday (first time I managed to get out), my house is on the lower slopes of mountain above the dead ferns, its been chilly ! NE of Sneem.
I wasn't counting the occupied territory 😉
Grid demand reached 7497MWh when the previous record last November was 7148MWh. Demand in 2010 had been the record for years, only in the last year or two was it surpassed on the island.
That could very well be one or two people using smoky coal. There was one house in Cork City that used their stock of the worst coal ever a few years ago - on certain nights it settled over the city and was like the 1950s.
EDIT: Good that record electricity demand passed with no more than a tight margin warning given how low the wind was throughout the day.
holding steady at -2.5 or so in South Maui since about 5pm. Feared it would fall much lower when it dipped so early tonight.
Yr.no has handled the temperature forecast much better than met for my area this week thankfully ! Came nowhere near -8/-9 last night
One of the coldest January nights since Jan 2010. Lowest temps at 10.30: Johnstown, Kilkenny (-7.7) Eden Park, Derry (-7.3) Roscrea, Tipperary (-7) Athenry, Galway (-6.7) Navan, Meath (-6.5) Emyvale, Monaghan (6.1) Mount Dillon, Roscommon & Limerick Junction, Tipperary (5.7)
I've storage heaters supposed to be on at 11pm till 6am but sometimes it's after 4am them coming on , need to get an electrician out to reset them but you can't get them anymore as crazy as it sounds 3 other people I know have said the same thing
There's an almighty bonfire burning at some houses not too far from me (Roscommon town)
Wind blowing the other direction, but still when I was out walking the dog for about 45 mins I could get the acrid taste of burning plastic
Maybe they're just keeping warm, maybe it's for the craic idk 😐️
We'll see if it snows for me at 2am but this built in weather app is crap
Tonight was the first time my fingers started to get frostbit (!) all week, and I've been out a fair bit
I don't tend to wear proper gloves, just fingerless ones, and noticed they started stinging
So now I know -5 is my limit there
My thermometer is saying -2 here in Wicklow tonight but it doesn't feel all that cold out. Maybe because there's no wind or humidity is low but last night felt much colder. Ground is dry so no ice and even the car hasn't iced over.
Limerick Junction is -6 all bloody year long lol!
Couple of cm has fallen this evening. Those inland in Northen 3rd of Donegal getting the heavier stuff will have a nice return.
Seems Derry City getting a good shower too.
Meanwhile in Galway, it's a very sharp frost, sharpest I've seen in a good while. Very minor thaw today as the sun came out after 2pm.
I was just about to say the same thing, it's giving me significant snowfall for Thursday morning :)
I was handling an iron bar covered in snow and ice this morning without gloves, but in fairness it was only - 2 at the time.
Note that their prediction was quite a bit less than the actual.
Surely it's up to you electric provider to sort it out as the meter belongs to them.
You gave me a fright 😁
'Roscrea' is Neilstown ( not too far away). Roscrea is -3.2
Definitely not, your electricity usage is 100% your responsibility
Madness that Met Eireann still have no snow/ice warning in place for the northwest. The amount Videos showing heavy snowfall.
Is this In Donegal? Unfortunately the showers so far seem to be dying a death further inland. Of course we wouldn't have this issue with the bloody mild sectors, the rain and sleet would make it well inland then.
Crazy isn't it the app keeps changing ,such as snow at 2am then mixed precipitation at 4am and turns out to be clear skies the whole time , and as for the crow bar and all wow 👌 I'd say your hands were gonna fall off in that cold 🥶
I'm talking about a night saver meter that is out of sinc and comes on at the wrong time. That can't be possible be be down to the customer that has no control over the meter that is out in its timing.
