As suggested in other thread, starting new thread, to continue discussion, and reduce the issue of 'Vanilla Tremble' (…another great new Boards feature!!!).
After event, will merge threads.
Roundwood. Heavy snow for several hours.
GFS quite the notable kink in the isobars for tomorrow, resulting in quite an extensive amount of further wintry precipitation. None of the hi-res 12z so far have something similar. But these are the ninja things you start to look out for in a cold flow.
All primary and secondary schools in Carlow are closed tomorrow, notifications sent earlier today
Heavy snow now in Waterford City. Sticking to everything Temp 0.2c DP -0.2c WB 0.1c
looking good again for my part of Cork for tomorrow
"The Department of Education anticipates that most schools will open as normal tomorrow morning, in areas affected by severe weather some schools may take a decision to close due to local conditions and safety concerns."
These are the set ups I like, nothing may occur, but then you're caught out with a few inches of snow out of nowhere. Still a bit of life in this spell yet then, after this disappointing event for our area.
Out for a quick walk in Greystones.
Plenty of melted snow/melted snow drifts and moderate melted snow falling!
Gradually cooling all day. 3.6c atm. But we have our own natural snow defence right by the cosat with ground wet by both rain and sea spray.
Still coming down near Kanturk, flakes getting a lot smaller now.
Is 40cm not enough my friend?
Spread some around, c'mon.
I don't even think here in D9 we have reached a single percentage point on a so called splodge factor. Looking at ventusky as a rough guide, those within 10-15km of the coast will really struggle to lose all onshore element to the wind. A NE'rly is not enough for us at this stage.
Heavy snow Rathcoole Co dublin. Will this front deliver like this for another 2 hours here any one know? I want a covering 🤞🤞
For Donegal having just looked at the latest gfs the upper air temperature aren’t that great, lots of times it’s only -4c which doesn’t really do it for showers and a downgrade from earlier fc in the weekend. GFS has a mild sector that spawns off the west coast of Scotland and is more impactful this run which doesn’t help and diminishes the cold a bit . Briefly looked at some high res models earlier they had acc snow but I must say based off that gfs it doesn’t look that promising. M.E while mentioning snow also mention hail and thunder. Hope it doesn’t start edging towards a hail fest rather snow but may well be if gfs is on to something with the milder air. I wouldn’t be posting warnings just yet if I were them.
Yup all schools in Carlow have notified they are closed
You're northern Offaly? Got unlucky with the position of the front. Right on the outer limits of the good stuff.
South of Offaly was building up a nice covering and should continue to do so.
Can't be disappointed here in Dublin realistically. It was a non-starter till this evening for us. Accumulating snow in Dunshaughlin says there's some hope. Only need 2 hours for a good covering with the intensities about.
Miserable day here.
Temp 2c down from 3c dropping slowly.
30mm of rain since the start no sleet or snow.
Baro down to 974 hPa.
Wind swinging around the North 10 to 15 mph gusts.
Grey, Grey.Grey.
East Meath
"Latest radar at 4pm as rain turns to snow in more areas now including more of Waterford."
Blue sky visible from Galway now. At least it's stopped raining.
bit of slush on the roads in cork city suburbs but can still see green in the grass etc even with the heavy snow. Everything’s just too wet I’d say
Flaking down in Three Rock ..
Blizzard conditions in the past few hours on the Waterford side of the Knockmealdown's (close to the Vee). Very small flakes resulting in only about an inch of snow in all that time (accurately measured using my finger on the decking).
A fierce wind coming from a north easterly direction is absolutely baltic.
Fluffier snow here in Celbridge (65 m). Still fairly wet, though. Wet-bulb down to 0.4 °C.
Snow depth currently €0.30
Cork runway has cleared and we are taking off from Dublin and heading back down in 20 minutes.
Very heavy just outside enniscorthy now and actually starting to stick
snowing properly now starting to stick
Newcastle Co Dublin
Docarch love the photo, that's exactly what it looks like in NCD, pools of water and not a snowflake in sight😁.
Soo jealous of all the snow photos but kept them coming everyone!
Three rock near ticknock Dublin?
Going a solid hour in maynooth. Another hour and it'll be a decent covering.
WHy has there been another page opened ? Was it another user or what , hopefully tomorrow night I will get some snow
About 2 inches here now in Clonmel. About the deepest I've seen since 2018 (though it's melting, just not as fast as it's falling, so I don't think it will beat that record). If you stand outside, you can hear branches breaking and hitting the ground with a big thump every few minutes.
Still no snow in Lucan, lots of rain and sleet
