too much African gold propping up the war…. it'll hurt, but doubt it will stop
He's usually level headed. Have you a link?
At what point does the ruble reach levels where they can’t fund the war anymore?
Even sky news is waking up to reality on the ground.
Ages ago now, when people were saying "why sanctions no working?" and of course the putinbots were very loud in stating "they were having no effect!"
I pointed out that wasn't the purpose of sanctions, or at least not in the short term. What they actually do is smother growth over time. And this is what we've seen. The Ruble is utterly worthless beyond Russia, inflation is running ever higher, interest rates have been pushed up time and time again to try and combat that(now at 21% and mortgage rates are at 28%). The woman whose name sadly escapes in charge of running Russia's economy deserves a medal tbh for holding it down so long. But this won't go away or get better. Add in a slow burn pre-existing demographic issue made worse by young men dying in the war, sorry "SMO", the young men who aren't but are in the military in greater numbers depleting their employment base. Oh putting the economy on a war footing makes the books look temporarily better, but that's not scalable.
Well Russia has 190Bn in Gold reserves (per WION) and it costs half to one billion a day for Russia to fight the war not to mention its other costs. Probably another year in that?
Yes the cracks are starting, remember it was the costs of its military that brought down the USSR eventually.
Saudi Arabia does not set the price of oil. They just manage their production volumes to manipulate it, but they can not unilaterally "set" anything.
if the front line is at risk of collapse will NATO send troops in ? If russia take Ukraine, they aren’t going to stop
Zero chance. Sure they aren't even doing enough on the weapons or equipment front.
Trump would be more pro fracking I think,so that's likely to help keep oil prices down also
I seen that, there’s however one big caveat
“according to the Bank of Russia”
All good points in fairness but all they had to do was hold out until Trump was elected which it looks like they'll do now bar some miracle the next few weeks.
Yourself making such an argument against putin having Parkinson's disease really does say a lot about the health of the deranged lunatic in charge of the russian federation.
Swedes will be pouring more money into Ukraine's long range strike capabilities. The future (as always) is in Ukraine's ability to produce it's own weaponry, which it's showing it's very adept at

What about this so
They can increase production like I said. They can restrict it also. They have done both many times in the past in an effort to impact oil prices. It has not always been as effective as they would like though - particularly with the US outstripping them in production these days.
Generally speaking SA can survive on lower oil prices than the other OPEC members.
I’m not sure about that, 10 million plus refugees fleeing Ukraine might force NATO’s hand
The Swiss being their usual helpful selves.
Not surprised to see the yanks playing semantics on whether the missile launched against Dnipro was an ICBM. A more than capable ICBM conveniently classified as an IRBM, despite having the capability to wipe out any city in Europe or coastal US.
And the Europeans despite saying it would be a significant escalation are happy to follow that line, just like they ignored Russian missiles landing in NATO countries. Gutless fcuks the lot of them who only put us all in long term jeopardy with their appeasement. They learned nothing from WW2.
Zelensky should butter up Trump, telling him he'll be spoken of in the same manner as Churchill if he puts a halt to Putins gallop. He'd love that. Churchill was a racist %£# too
Looks like it's not only russia that can adjust their nuclear doctrine.
Elvi Nabiullina is the banking lady in question and I am sure she has the backing of Russian intelligence which gives her the platform to talk the way she does. She could be Russians backup plan to replace putin at some stage.
No, or highly unlikely EJ. On both fronts. Russia can't take Ukraine as it is, they'd have little hope of going much beyond the Dnieper, if that and that's a big if. And that's taking it, keeping it is a whole other matter. QV Vietnam, Iraq, Afghanistan, and damned near every other "superpower" war against smaller nations. All were pretty much taken but that's when the fun really started. If a people don't want you, you will lose and you will leave in the end. The only scales are time and the bodies that have to pile up before you finally come to the conclusion that you shouldn't have kicked off in that way in the first place.
America in Vietnam and russia in Afghanistan are different beasts. putin can seemingly indefinitely send men to be slaughtered in Ukraine without any political blowback….. but yes I agree russia holding all of Ukraine seems impossible but then again they might just try to kill the entire domestic population ?
Fundraiser for Pokrovsk. Link below.. It's crucial. ISW said recently that if it falls, that could lose Ukraine half of its steel. I've been making small donations to Toonie-Tuesday for a while. They accept Paypal.
I think Biden and Scholz have made a terrible mistake in inadequately supplying Ukraine and pushing them into a defensive war of attrition. This sends a terrible signal to Poland and the Baltic states, and certainly Moldova too. While I dont have much confidence Trump will be better, given Don Jr's hysterical opposition to aid, I think Trump also doesnt like to look weak, which might actually lead to some aid continuing. We will see.
I mean, ultimately what does it matter what the vehicle for delivering the payload was?
It obviously does to the US who were at pains to point out it wasn't an ICBM, when it for all intents and purposes, is.
They knew they'd need to respond if they admitted Russia had launched one, so skirted round the issue, as did Europe.
Imho they could do worse, a lot worse, and few enough better. Though imho considering the culture, there is near zero chance of a woman being put forward as any sort of leader. Even during Soviet times when gender equality was remarkably good and better than in some "liberal western nations", high end leadership was a bit too far a leap for the underlying culture.
That said, they have a remarkable percentage of women business owners/entrepreneurs/managers. Highest in Europe. Interestingly and a tad counterintuitive, it's been noted that we often find more women in "power", in business or local politics in cultures that are more overtly "conservative" and "macho".
So maybe it's time? Channel Catherine the Great or something… Like I say they could do a lot worse. That lassie has played a blinder imho.
I came here before and posted a peer reviewed article stating that 2014 was a coup. Here it is again.

Do you have a peer reviewed article that presents an antithesis?
No, he was not carrying two bowls of ratatouille 🤪
