One would hope the management team would pick players that provide Ireland with the best chance of success at the next world cup. Not becusse their afraid of a few negative comments about them on social media.

Realistically, Ireland should have parted company with Farrell after the world cup. Eight years as a head coach is an awfully long time in sport.

I thought the same with the Henderson knock on tbh; it was an unsympathetic pass, fizzed at him, and on his inside shoulder, but he still should've taken it.
i think generally we develop young players well, especially Leinster. I'd actually go the other way and say that it would help young players in the other provinces to have better players around them.
I'd like to see more A games maybe.
One other point I haven't seen made on here with regards the kicks from hand; Crowley had one that was too long, Frawley had one awful one (I think turning over ball in the lead up to their try).
But other than that, in general, I thought the kick quality was good. A large part of the reason we got no purchase from them was because Will Jordan was absolutely exceptional in the air.
Was at the game and haven't watched it back. It's a shame the game wasn't game 3 of the series for us. We lucked rusty, nothing stuck. Think it would be a different game if 2 weeks later. I'm not that bothered by the result. It's an age old saying, but sometimes you learn more in defeat than victory.

Rewatching the game and it hasn't changed my opinion from my first watch, our pack wasn't good enough at the breakdown nor in some of our carries. All the talk about Crowley dropping that ball, Joe Mc dropped one minutes before in a similar position and it's hardly mentioned. Ireland had 21 handling errors. I know I'm repeating myself but Crowley was not the reason we lost last night.
Aside from everything else, when he went off, we had a one point lead, we lost the game by 10 points
Lowe gets a 50/22 around the 70th min, we get and win the lineout but are penalised at a ruck after a few passes, lost it with more Irish players committed to the ruck than NZ.

there was a lot of errors and the usual reasons for this are a lack of skill, lack of experience or a lack of confidence. that team has skill and had lots of experience so it must have been a lack of confidence and what is the main reason for a lack of confidence - a fear of failure. A fear of failure meaning letting yourself down or letting someone close to you down.
Sexton had no business being involved and was an unnecessary circus. Especially What pressure must Crowley and Frawley been feeling all week to win this game.

We looked so off the boil, it's baffling. Haven't seen an Irish team play that poorly since the Kidney years. None of the accuracy and speed at the breakdown, handling was atrocious. Our lineout has somehow gotten worse since the WC, the 23 team would've eaten that NZ alive.
Handling errors aside, I think it's a bit harsh on the team to criticize them too much for last night. Defense was excellent and the scrum was rock solid all night.
Watched back some of the game and this clip shows we got zero change our of Berry for large parts of the game. In this brief clip there is 1) off the ball tackle on Frawley after the line break, 2) looks like a tip tackle in the follow on phase, 3) next ruck up side entry, ignored, but we maintain possession, 4) Savea steps in from the side and gets hands on the ball, clear penalty but goes against us.
According to this forum, something to do with Henderson, Healy and POM.
All the penalties we gave away before they came on, are something to do with them.

We will never, ever, be able to produce players in the quantities that our main rivals do; SA, NZ, England, France are always going to have to more players than us so we have to make the best of what we have. Likewise, we're never going to have a giant pack unless we start shipping in Samoan and Georgian teenagers in significant numbers.
That said, our lack of depth is a major issue. It's true that the replacements on Friday night didn't lose us the game, but they certainly didn't improve things. We were actually leading by a point when Herring, TOT, Henderson and Frawley came on, but their contributions ranged from anonymous to terrible. TOT gets a pass, obviously. If what you want is impact from the bench, then we got zero (zero positive impact, anyway).
I've no idea why Osborne only got ten minutes when he is a guy who can make things happen. Likewise if POM is there for his leadership and 'dog', bringing him on with ten minutes to go and the game slipping away is probably a bit late, so Farrell carries the can for those two I think.
I think the performance on Friday was a mixture of our lack of depth being exposed, a lot of players having possibly their worst display in a long time and a few mis-steps from Farrell. I would expect the latter two to be resolved next week, but the lack of depth is something we'll have to live with really.
We have had some poor performances this year. England, Scotland, SA Test 1 and Friday were all quite poor displays. It's more then just Friday and we seem intent on getting every last minute out of some players. It kind of reminds me of Gordon D'Arcy in his last season where it was quite clear it was a season too far.
Henderson is done, Tom Ahern should be in squads ahead of him now.

POM and Murray need to be moved on. Cian healy is in the same bracket for me now.
Our lineout is a mess. We select POM to "fix" the lineout but winning ball at 2 and getting stung behind the gainline in Midfield isn't lineout success. It's failure because it's exactly what our opponents want.
