Contentious to who though, would only effect 8 to 10 houses, albeit probably wealthy connected people. But it would be far better for the greater good.
Now that we are officially in election mode, will be interesting see what promises are made on this project. At a minimum canvassers need to be asked about extra buses. The 6.30am 133 left passengers behind in Kilpedder last week as it was full. And the n11 itself is now backed up to before jn12 at the same time some mornings.
Test Test
Also, for some reason I can't see the last page or the most recent posts? Probably won't see this one either.
I think if FFG are back in government without greens we might see this turbo charged
Has anybody heard any chat about this road scheme since change of government? I know it is early days, but I had hoped that perhaps it would have been quite a high priority for incoming govt to at least announce something on it.
Two things will provide some signalling on this:
2. The review of the National Development Plan in the summer which should see TII input on which schemes need to be prioritised unlike the last set of TII proposals which was dismissed.
Thanks, wasn't aware of imminent TII allocations, will be interesting to see if any mention in that.
TII allocations have been announced and as far as I can see nothing for this scheme.

Major upgrade of junction 7 Bray South (Souther Cross) proposed as part of latest design.
Am I misremembering or was the bus lane scheme once described as "quick-build".
Each new iteration of it has added more and more infrastructure - this thread started in 2016! Not a single thing has been done in the intervening period other than the production of multiple reports and consultations. But 1000s of houses have been built and moved into all along the N11.
I believe it was, but like certain “quick build” cycling projects in Dublin this scheme is anything but quick. It’s a nonsense term in Ireland, our system is incapable of delivering infrastructure quickly due to its incredibly consultative and bureaucratic methods, combined with an increasingly litigious society. I believe the scheme started off all singing all dancing, including bus lanes, widening to 6 lanes and extending all the way from Bray to Newtown mount Kennedy. Then it was the bus lanes only. Now according to that video they are going with the bus lanes and some parallel service roads, and junction redesigns. This is great to see as I really don’t think bus lanes can be delivered in isolation here due to the amount of access issues and unsafe junctions that the road currently has.
If we could get this phase over the line, we can look at the changes needed further to the south at Delgany afterwards.
This is all totally inadequate and a waste of money. This needs 3 lanes running traffic each way. If they do what they now say they'll be ripping it all up again soon after.
It makes zero sense.
There was a comprehensive proposed solution here that is inevitable but has also been sidelined for this.
This proposed mess even has the word "interim" on it. They are telling us they going to blow our money essentially on a couple of bus lanes.
The Greens are gone. It's time to just do this properly in the first instance.
Rubberneckers slowing to have a gawk at the Herbert road protesters causing chaos on the M11/M50. The protesters are oblivious to the fact that they are causing a problem
More lanes is the temp solution! This actual stretch has had enough redesigns and aux lanes to prove that the traffic just expands to fill it (as someone who has been commuting it (by car) for over 20 years!).
wasn’t Fassaroe’s P&R supposed to done by now as well? Surely they could convert the hard shoulder from Loughlinstown to Fassaroe now, while the junction alterations go through planning.
having looked at the plans, I actually think the main reason they have to close the Herbert Road junction is because of the active travel requirement. They could easily leave it open for exit-only from the N11, there's never a queue there and very few cars use it to go south on the N11.
But they have to get cyclists (and to a lesser extent pedestrians) off the hard-shoulder to accommodate the bus-lane and that means building an off-line cycle path between J6 and J7 which goes across the Herbert Rd. junction. This would be completely unsafe with the junction still open.
Perhaps the bus lane is the Trojan horse to ensure they can go ahead with the initial solution of motorway through the glen to coynes cross.
Greens or no greens there was no way they were going to get that road as proposed through the glen of the downs because of the Habitats Directive.
If in a year or two the proposal is extending a bus lane through the glen, then that stands a far higher chance given there is no alternative route to extend an existing route.
Once they have permission to put the bus lane through, they have the road width they need and can pursue the original plan.
A big problem with this current plan is that, like I've said before, that the N11 is an inter-urban road which is treated like a local road. Commuters from south of Bray are getting caught up in the local objections to the Herbert jn closure. While I understand their pain, equally if locals and public representatives hadn't objected to every other previous plan, we wouldn't be where we are now.
Simon Harris posted a video on Instagram in which he calls the planned Herbert Road closure "simply insane" , says Wicklow CC have agreed to appoint consultants to find an alternative route in order to prevent its closure..
Politics trumps policy
They should progress the full upgrade of the road. The bus lane is a total waste of money that will be ripped up when the 3rd lane is added.
What’s your source that it will be a “total waste of money”?
Might not be such a waste of money if it means it is quicker and cheaper to add the 3rd lane on the long run. I suspect that is the point of the bus lane.
First time I’ve agreed with Kermit but I also think this will be a waste of money unless it can be grandfathered without changes into a larger scheme to widen both ways.
Widening is never going to happen, as all along there is kick back about closing local access, and politicians keep rowing in behind it.
Nothing is ever gong to happen. The country has struggled to deliver any new infrastructure for the past 15 years.
Lets not forget, that it was Harris sticking his oar in about the closure of the Barry's bridge turn off that contributed to one of the previous full upgrade plans canned.
At that stage, they were still planning a new flyover and link roads at Drummin so the residents of Delgany would still have access to n11 via jn11 Kilpedder and the Willow Grove residents would be accommodated with access to Delgany via the new flyover too.
Just saw this posted on Facebook
they haven't said it explicitly but my interpretation of the previous plan was that they had to close Herbert Rd to facilitate the offline cycle-lane. Essentially they can't have cyclists (or pedestrians) who currently use the hard shoulder mixing with 100km/h coaches, so they have to provide an alternative active-travel path. That path crosses the end of Herbert Road on a blind junction, so you can't have traffic swinging off the N11, and you can't put traffic lights at that point either as it would result in traffic backing up on the bus lane.
The original N11 plan had a service road between J6 and J7 (with cycle lanes and footpaths), but it's awkward terrain on the side of a hill and there are houses in the way. It looks like they're going back to that idea now.

Small update, make of that what you will. Personally, I'll believe it when I see it.
