Certainly feels like the N Korean troops are a big escalation, seems inevitable that other states are going to get pulled in too. Putin isn't going to stop before he's dead. Horrible feeling of inevitability about it. Then there's the Trump wildcard next month. Biden should have honored the Budapest agreement and made it clear to Putin that invasion was not an option, but he didn't and here we are.
Response does not have to be troops.
No-one in the west wants to send troops (except people who want someone else to do it), so it seems unlikely any red lines will be crossed.
Voices getting louder with warnings that North Korean soldiers will be considered fair game in Ukraine.
Lukashenko saying in a nutshell it would be insane for Putin to send North Korean fighters to Ukraine as NATO will respond.. something I wouldn’t expect him to say.
Could we now be finally seeing the Wests red lines when it comes to this war?
@John Doe "Just because it's taking a long time doesn't make it wrong. It just means that someone somewhere has deemed it necessary for Russia to become tender and flavorful… "
At first slowly, then suddenly.
You'd think a self appointed Moderator would at least bother to read up on the latest forum rules wouldn't you, instead of clogging up the thread with schoolyard nonsense.
Mod Edit: Uncivil - warning applied. One day forum ban also applied
@Jon Doe be aware there are new rules in place for Current Affairs. There is a Help Desk thread discussing them, so just linking to them for reference here.
Alot of the messaging on the Ukranian side does not appear to match the frontline reality on the ground
And how would you know that? Do you have boots on the ground? Boots of the friendly kind perhaps? Or do you just keep up with TASS and that's it?…
where Russia continues to make mostly small but incremental advances everyday along the eastern front.
The tankie's traditional sleight-of-hand… talk about 'facts' but never mention numbers. What's the lives/squareKm ratio? What's the rubles/squareKm? How sustainable is that? For how much longer can they sustain that intensity of effort? Long enough for you to convince us to relent our support to Ukraine? Or long enough for Russia as a country to become thoroughly cooked? After all what happens if Russia relents its current intensity of effort?… >:D
Yet throughout we are told Russian forces are collapsing, only a matter of time…
It is. What? Just because it's taking a long time doesn't make it wrong. It just means that someone somewhere has deemed it necessary for Russia to become tender and flavorful… :P It's just to ensure that there is always a carrot in front of Putin. Otherwise Putty-boy might get scared and pull Russia out of this current quagmire and then what? No more special military operation related expenses?!… no no my friend. That won't do at all!
yet they've consolidated their territorial gains.
Have they now?…
Then there are references to the Kursk operation (I think that was a big mistake and led to Ukraine having to commit scarce resources away from the active fronts but the Generals know far more than me)
Yeah… we know you do… tankies such as yourself usually follow the Kremlin talking points to the letter… xD
which I think was more a political choice than a military one.
Duhhh… yeah… it was… everybody was talking about Israel… and then suddenly the middle east 'conflict' was no more in Western Media. Sooooo…. it worked perfectly!
It regained western attentionbut beyond that it's a struggle to see what the benefit was or will be in the end.
LOL! So that means you don't know who's footing the bill for Ukraine's defense… or is it the case that you aren't familiar with the concept of RoI? Or maybe you are hoping we aren't?…
They are trying to say it's leverage in a negotiation
It is. But it's also good, fun, wholesome humiliation… xD
but you could equally say that Russia would be happy enough for Ukraine to have troops tied up there rather than in the east.
Ohhh… they really aren't…
Anyone can look at the Deepstate map and the whole situation is told there. There is not much to be optimistic about.
Yeah… we don't look at lines on maps… we prefer to listen to news from Russia… especially about everyday live news… have you heard the short video posted by the Chinese mercenary 'fighting' in Ukraine?… now that was amusing…
PSA: fyi you are thread banned just in case you have forgotten.
The best Putin can hope for is to become Xi's bottom bitch. Speaking of bitches it seems there are still plenty of them in our midst. You good folk wouldn't happen to know of a more exhaustive list would you?
Mod Edit: Poster warned for backseat modding - one week forum ban also applied
Please tell me you have a link… Please?…
Of course not. He just used his suicide gun. Ya know… to make extra sure… >:D
If you're not a Dub, then you're wearing the wrong uniform.
At least you're articulating a vision for what next. Personally, I wouldn't be that optimistic for all sorts of reasons - primarily because I don't believe US taxpayers have the appetite for the largesse that would be required not only militarily but propping up Ukraine itself.
I really don't know why you were banned… it's fun to point out the flaws in your 'arguments'… xD
It becomes a harder sell after each tranche of assistance.
Only if you are a Republican… but given that Republicans are mostly representing the land owners and robber barons - all best buds with oligarchs - they were never friendly to Ukraine to begin with…
My own belief
Excuse me? Which of 'your' beliefs is not a Kremlin talking point?…
is that we'll see movement after the US election towards some form of negotiations
Nah… we really don't. What we see is movement towards an election. After that, who knows… maybe we'll see increased shipments of military equipment to Ukraine… or maybe we'll see hand grenades being thrown down the chute of cooling towers in nuclear power plants somewhere in Russia… who knows? When you're backed into a corner the sky is the limit. Putin should know that given his experience with rats and all that… xD
at the very least to try stop the fighting in the interim and then see what leverage can be brought to bare on Russia
No. LOL… there will be no 'stop the fighting'… :) "Oh but you're mean, you don't want Peace!" No, I don't. I want Justice. And then Peace. In that order. Not negotiable. See what I mean by 'boil them thoroughly'?…
The original air frame of the F16s is not that new but it has been upgraded over the years. We will see how it goes as the updated F16s are being replaced across the globe in NATO aligned countries by the latest fighters and the F16s are sent to fly in Ukraine in significant numbers and making an even bigger impact on putin's terrorists.
What would be helpful is if someone who wants to keep the battle going in the form it is now - if they could actually articulate what the realistic plan is?

I don't think the EU has a plan… The American plan is crystal clear to me… to boil them - Russia, China, etc - as slooowly as possible. Not only to spread cost over time but also to ensure a thorough boiling.
My own opinion is that Ukraine, no matter how much goodwill and optimism one throws at the argument, will not be able to militarily retake it's lost territory.
They can't. And they know it. But they don't have to. They know that too. They just have to break Russia. It's not as hard as one might assume. Especially if you consider that Russia is just a glorified gas station… :/
All wrong. In reality I got on the wrong airplane at Shannon. Instead of an Aer Lingus flight to London, I somehow ended up on a troop transport to Fort Irwin which was stopping at the same time on the way back from Afghanistan. Have been pretending to be a US soldier ever since, don't want the INS to cop on.
Modern fighters? They are 30-40 year old fighters that were destined for the scrap heap. It doesn't help that they don't seem to have been provided with modern missiles.
The French are doing the same. Sending rubbish like the Mirage with air to air missiles with less range than a glide bomb. They could have provided Rafales armed with Meteors and the glide bomb issue would be more but instead they are providing dated aircraft with rubbish range.
This is why. If you still think of this as a good thing, think of it this way: why do you think a supermarket owner feels the need to drop his good's prices? You think it's because the supermarket owner feels s/he's making too much money; too fast?…
Why are food prices dropping now, China on a diet, or are they now exporting food?
You have no idea…
Was reported today that the Russians had captured the center of Selydove which is south of Pokrovsk in Donetsk which has a population of circa 20,000. That was mainly Russian sources reporting it so not the most reliable and also was very fast but Deepstate appears to back it up now.
https://deepstatemap.live/en/#14/48.1434966/37.3033047
What makes the settlement important though is that there is no mid size settlements left between there and the Donetsk border to the west (a distance of about 25kms) which is more or less open fields so no natural defensive settlement for the Ukranians to fortify.
Also, unusally, because the advance was so fast the city is actually mostly intact.
Maybe the Ukranians were tactically surrounded and had to withdraw?
How do you think the US would feel about China sending love letters to Mexico and Chinese ships in the gulf?
They are. Their reaction is simple: sanctions on chinese car brands manufactured in Mexico. Problem solved without invasions. See how easy it could have been? But do notice: sanctions don't give control over local resources… :(
Wow, incredible after two years of war some people are still blind to the truth… Then again, the worst kind of blind man is the one that does not wish to see… :/
No, he's a Dub who ventured beyond the M50 and lost his bearings. (Let that be a cautionary tale to the rest of ye.)
So you are not very optimistic for Ukraine and take a very pro putin opinion on how the attacks by his terrorists on Ukraine are going. To me it looks like the move by Ukraine into Kursk has resulted in a big increase in daily losses in putin's forces as they scramble to retake the territory they lost to the extent that they are now forced to rely on the help of north korea to keep the front lines stocked with cannon fodder. Meanwhile training of Ukrainians in using modern NATO fighters to help them defend themselves from putin's terrorists is being stepped up:

And a much greater spectacle! xD
China can't feed itself?
No, it can't. You wouldn't believe the amount of food they import. Moreover, most of the food the party members eat is imported. Same goes for energy.
Did you write that on a device that would not exist without Chinese supply chains?
Can you eat or drink devices? Can your engine burn devices?
Do you think they all still ride bicycles?
The smart ones do.
About those grain reserves… you do know that whenever that central government shows up for inspections those grain reserves mysteriously catch fire and the local government collects the insurance money, right?…
