Alot of the messaging on the Ukranian side does not appear to match the frontline reality on the ground where Russia continues to make mostly small but incremental advances everyday along the eastern front.
Yet throughout we are told Russian forces are collapsing, only a matter of time…yet they've consolidated their territorial gains.
Then there are references to the Kursk operation (I think that was a big mistake and led to Ukraine having to commit scarce resources away from the active fronts but the Generals know far more than me) which I think was more a political choice than a military one. It regained western attention but beyond that it's a struggle to see what the benefit was or will be in the end.
They are trying to say it's leverage in a negotiation but you could equally say that Russia would be happy enough for Ukraine to have troops tied up there rather than in the east.
Anyone can look at the Deepstate map and the whole situation is told there. There is not much to be optimistic about.
I think kursk is a negotiation point for Ukraine in case of a trump win, when trump will roll over and expose his belly to vlad.
If Harris wins, we'll likely see a change in strategy from russia, maybe enough to declare a pyrrhic victory and either hold what they have or setup a demilitarised zone.
The position of the front haven't changed significantly if you look at the maps. Ukraine employs the same tactic as ever — defend to kill as many Russians as possible, retreat a few 100s of meters, repeat. In the meantime, Ukraine concentrates its forces and captures relatively large areas in places where Russians have a weakness (sometime it works, sometimes, as in the counterattack in the South, it didn't).
The position of the frontline is quite important, but unless the front collapses completely on one of the sides, it is not going to decide the outcome of this war. The war can end when the collective West decides to end it, either by forcing Ukraine to capitulate or by forcing Putin to stop by allowing Ukraine to join NATO. If there is no decision, the war may drag on for a generation or more. The situation will not get better by itself.
Deepstate is a week behind Kermit, it was doing well 3 or 4 months ago and then when everything started going really pear shaped they changed.
I still think it's a good resource. Given it's a pro-Ukraine source I wouldn't be as enthusiastic keeping up to date with frontline losses either to be fair.

So you are not very optimistic for Ukraine and take a very pro putin opinion on how the attacks by his terrorists on Ukraine are going. To me it looks like the move by Ukraine into Kursk has resulted in a big increase in daily losses in putin's forces as they scramble to retake the territory they lost to the extent that they are now forced to rely on the help of north korea to keep the front lines stocked with cannon fodder. Meanwhile training of Ukrainians in using modern NATO fighters to help them defend themselves from putin's terrorists is being stepped up:

Was reported today that the Russians had captured the center of Selydove which is south of Pokrovsk in Donetsk which has a population of circa 20,000. That was mainly Russian sources reporting it so not the most reliable and also was very fast but Deepstate appears to back it up now.

What makes the settlement important though is that there is no mid size settlements left between there and the Donetsk border to the west (a distance of about 25kms) which is more or less open fields so no natural defensive settlement for the Ukranians to fortify.
Also, unusally, because the advance was so fast the city is actually mostly intact.

Modern fighters? They are 30-40 year old fighters that were destined for the scrap heap. It doesn't help that they don't seem to have been provided with modern missiles.
The French are doing the same. Sending rubbish like the Mirage with air to air missiles with less range than a glide bomb. They could have provided Rafales armed with Meteors and the glide bomb issue would be more but instead they are providing dated aircraft with rubbish range.
All wrong. In reality I got on the wrong airplane at Shannon. Instead of an Aer Lingus flight to London, I somehow ended up on a troop transport to Fort Irwin which was stopping at the same time on the way back from Afghanistan. Have been pretending to be a US soldier ever since, don't want the INS to cop on.

I don't think the EU has a plan… The American plan is crystal clear to me… to boil them - Russia, China, etc - as slooowly as possible. Not only to spread cost over time but also to ensure a thorough boiling.
My own opinion is that Ukraine, no matter how much goodwill and optimism one throws at the argument, will not be able to militarily retake it's lost territory.
They can't. And they know it. But they don't have to. They know that too. They just have to break Russia. It's not as hard as one might assume. Especially if you consider that Russia is just a glorified gas station… :/
The original air frame of the F16s is not that new but it has been upgraded over the years. We will see how it goes as the updated F16s are being replaced across the globe in NATO aligned countries by the latest fighters and the F16s are sent to fly in Ukraine in significant numbers and making an even bigger impact on putin's terrorists.
At least you're articulating a vision for what next. Personally, I wouldn't be that optimistic for all sorts of reasons - primarily because I don't believe US taxpayers have the appetite for the largesse that would be required not only militarily but propping up Ukraine itself.
