    You're very gullible.

Step back from Facebook/Twitter for a bit would be my advise.

I agree with a lot of what you said but what is needed is better governance, not the ridiculous fools that are Aontu or some idiots of independent ireland etc. Having FF+FG on their own would be best in my opinion, send the greens back to the wasteland. The less said about SF the better.

With only 12 TDs greens must be the the most succesful party in irish history. They seem to be blamed for every decision that someone doesnt like that the Gov has taken over the last 5yrs. Greens will be wiped out as they always are when entering gov (EU wide) and will regroup and if the chance arises will go back in to govb# next time and get their policies implemented.

Other smaller parties should consider this also, SD refused to enter gov last time and now dont look like the will have as many seats as before.

IMO independents should not be allowed to run for the DAIL as the usually stand on a single issue in their area so should be in the council.

Its a sad reflection on the oppisition parties in this country that after 15 yrs in goverment that FG are still leading in the polls. i cannot think of another democracy where this would happen.

Harris is looking like a bit of an idiot now with regards to the general election date. Nobody believed his spoof about next year and he has been cornered into the truth now.

What are they doing in the Hyacinth house?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 24,048 ✭✭✭✭mickdw

ALl he was doing was creating abit of uncertainty to get a jump on the opposition.

Why tell them all the exact date and allow them all comfortably schedule their canvas, better have them guessing alittle at least even if everyone knew down to a couple of weeks when the date would be.

    So close!

Rename thread to Election Date to be called soon after Friday announces Taoiseach

You only have to look over the Irish Sea to the Tories who had 14 years of power up to this year? FG have at least been in coalition governments since 2011... Which is actually only 13 years not 15.

I don't particularly like the amount of independents we elect myself but I wouldn't change our system over it, that's on us the voters to not fall for their single issue nonsense.

The Taoiseach should be from the bigger party, end of discussion! This rotating Taoiseach thing is cringe. The smaller party in a coalition, if they want to form government, should accept that none of them can be Taoiseach.

Ah unless there is a 10 seat gap then the rotating is fine

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 117 ✭✭Joe286

Seems I was wrong. Perhaps Harris is waiting for more leaks from SF.

I was wrong about the date

FF/FG are virtually at one on most policies, there's little difference between them so it matters little as to who is Taoiseach.

The circumstances of the last election was such that to keep SF out, FF/FG had to coalesce and the seat tally they each had meant there was no dominant party so a rotating Taoiseach was the price to be paid. What will be interesting this time is the returns of both parties. There won't be a chasm between them but at the moment it's reasonable to think FG will return more seats and say if they have 10 more than FF will FG be willing to rotate the Taoiseach's position? The relative strength of SF after the election will be a factor here too.

FF will end up largest party in a shock result - FG may be more popular in general but so many of their stalwarts are stepping down at the end of this term so their new candidates will have little name recognition

FF will be marginally in front in a result that will disgust more than half of the country who still remember mccreevynomics, Berties shenanigans and the crash

SF will be broadly the same as last election. Largest opposition but not possible to form a govt without FF or FG.

Except it could easily be done on a Thursday evening after the Dáil sitting ends

Gerry The Monk Hutch's entry into Dublin Central is a fresh headache for Mary Lou.

So seeing as the majority is 88, how close do FF/FG get between the two of them ?

Heather Humphries retiring according to the Sunday Times. Blow to Fine Gael.

ST opinion poll has fg 28, ff 22 and sf 16. That’s surely a majority for ffg unless they’re massively unlucky

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,798 ✭✭✭✭billyhead

Likely but never take those opinion polls at face value.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,749 ✭✭✭✭hotmail.com

    And FF usually under estimated.

It's looking possible that a third party won't be needed.

    Disaster for Sinn Fein.

It's not quite limited. It's legal up to birth for any reason because after 12 weeks it's allowed on mental health grounds, which covers anything and everything.

And it's also encouraged and celebrated. But hey, that's the kind of country most people here want to live in.

But to answer the question: it doesn't really matter who gets it because they're all 100% identical. There's no such thing as "centre", "centre-right", etc. They're all far left.

Heather jumping ship is a big shock.
Some losses to FG (18?)bound to have an effect. FF will be delighted

I meant if those numbers materialise on election day. Is that not understood when posters make those sorts of projections?
