Got email from Sky https://www.sky.com/shop/pre-reg/mobile
Only problem is, it doesnt recognise Irish mobile phone numbers :-)
Cheers there, got it sorted 👍 they messed up my account number the first time around
worked for a while before lunchtime … now gone again. christ, if its Sky having intermittent issues …
Update: 5:45pm, and it’s working again.
I also had issues with 2FA from Apple this morning.
Had to make a decision by tomorrow before my 14 day cooling off period ended so went into Eir and picked up a SIM and tried to port my number and it failed. Got on to customer care and tried another 3 times and it failed each time. Told them again and again it’s a post pay account and do they not need my account number. Was told no each time only to get a text half an hour later saying the port failed due to account number being incorrect or not supplied. Feel like banging my head off a wall at this stage. Ported over to 48 on a spare SIM I had there within minutes of submitting the request.
I’ll probably try port over to Eir again so I’m not down another top up.
Just checked 2FA from Microsoft, worked fine, as did bank
Same here, ported 087. Very odd.
Ported 087 number from Vodafone. It worked fine since porting on Tuesday, including roaming in UK. Worked last night, but not today. Tried it again now, and still not working.
Port sorted this afternoon. Took minutes when put through as a single line account. My other number is unaffected.
Speeds...
Gomo:
Sky 5G:
That upload speed is concerning but I'm at home on WiFi anyway. Will see how it performs in the wild
Posting this update seems to be OK anyway.
2FA working again, by the looks of it. tested mygov just now and its working again.
I just tried my M365 test tenant and Outlook.com accounts, both worked fine. Are you on a ported number or the provided 089 one?
Same for me today - 2FA SMS from Microsoft Authenticator app not coming through, preventing VPN login. It was fine late last night.
I use TOTPs via an authenticator app for most things but it would concern me if something broke that requires SMS.
There's a report a few pages back of Sky throttling the speed to 12 Mb/s if it's used in a router so I wouldn't chance it.
Old fogey here, living in a rural 4G area. I have an old Vodafone MiFi router, Model R216.
It's locked to Vodafone and a key factor for me in deciding whether or not to activate my Sky SIM is whether or not it will work in this router. Can anyone advise whether it will, please? Many thanks.
thank you @Glaceon, just tested, revenue.ie works, but mygovid.ie does not nor airlines (e.g. KLM), that all worked last week. not sure what is going on there.
Revenue still OK for me here, haven't tried any others.
Yes, I'm the same today - Tried logging into eBay this morning and no 2FA received, tried resend option three times and no text received, also tried Amazon login and it's the same. 2FA messages from both were working up to yesterday.
Unfortunately, my 2FA stopped working today, but did work just fine last week …. anyone else having the same issue? I can get normal SMS or porting codes, but not system generated 2FA messages.
Both sims would be treated separately and you will only be billed for the ones you activate. I'd take the risk. I know there's lots of people here saying they had problems but I think vast majority switched without issues and few that ran into issues had them sorted reasonably quickly. They seem like they could do with improving sim delivery tracking and their website is a bit buggy but once set up you're signal/speeds will be same as Vodafone at a cheaper rate.
Sim cards finally arrived after 10 days.
But after reading issues here re:
…………I'm wondering if I should take the leap.
I was previously on Vodafone (€65pm) and found it the best network in my work building, which is not great for coverage in general, so I switched to Eir (€20pm). It was great to think of getting back on Vodafones network for €15pm, but is it worth the risk at this early stage with all the teething problems?
Also, I got 2 sim cards, one for my son too. If I port his number across will it kick in the billing for both sims or could I use his as a tester?
I received my GoMo SIM in the mail yesterday and after testing it out, WiFi calling and texting worked right away, and the data speeds at home are comparable, with lower latency for sure than Sky. So I completed the port and got my cancelation email from Sky almost immediately, as I'm still within the cooling-off period. I'd consider moving back if Sky gets their **** together and can deliver on promised features, because I hear the Vodafone network is more consistent in the shticks, so while driving that would be an asset, if so.
yea, I had two numbers on my gomo account, Mine and one of the kids. ported them both in two separate transactions as single lines
@TheDriver That's what I did. I had two lines on GoMo, put the initial port as a multi-line account. Got that error. Reprocessed as a single line and it went through in a couple hours.
For a multi line account?
you can put it through as a single line port and it works away
I had the same. Placed my order on Tuesday and got the SIM yesterday. I was expecting it to take a week or more.
Interesting how dispatch was so quick for your second run. Let me know if you get ported as I'm the same.
Not yet, but the new sim arrived in today's post and I since managed to get an Irish sky guy who said that the issue is that Gomo want ports put through as single line (even if multi line - typical eir if so!) so we'll see if that solves the issue tomorrow
anybody able to port physical sim number to a esim? Trying through the app… I never get the verification SMS containing the code to make sure I'm the genuine account holder. It's not been working for me for the past week or so.
To sign up it's 0818 719 819
Sounds ok.
What phone number do you ring?
