Very clever capture.
:-D Like the Beer Barron episode in the Simpsons
Ali
Even the Simpsons didn't envisage something this daft...
Not seen this geo-located but I doubt they're kegs of beer in the back.
I have so many questions….
that’s.. daft
130 miles from Latvian border, 80 miles from Belarus. There's no way NATO surveillance didn't notice that arsenal building up such substantial stock of munitions over recent months. There's probably other arms supply bases, maybe not as large that are still well worth taking out by more drone & missile attacks in future.
Were the Russians planning another offensive towards North East Ukraine?
I think it was just a handy location far from the front-lines that was near a rail depot. They probably thought it was safe to accumulate the munitions there prior to them being move in incrementally to the Donbass (in the same way that they stockpiled munitions in central locations within Ukraine prior to the Ukrainians getting HIMARs)
This is just so impressive.
Some positives to take.
It is being referred to by many as a warehouse or depot. It’s literally a complex.
Or in Kremlin speak, merely a PO Box.
2.8
Not great, not terrible 🤣
More than 5 km across
The Russians said that the ammunition storage facility at Toropets could withstand a nuclear explosion. I guess technically they didn’t say it could withstand “falling debris from a drone”.
An ammo campus if you will.
now it’s an amusement park.
Not open yet. Ground excavations have just begun. Planned for 2026. Could be later though.
That Gepard is a handy yoke
Meanwhile…
That attack (on the ammunition stockpile) makes me wonder what the Ukrainian military could achieve with a stock of donated missiles that they could launch into Russia, even just at a narrow set of targets.
Surely it is not correct to argue that it would have a limited impact on the war?
Though if Ukraine's own long range drone/missile programmes are progressing well and bearing fruit anyway (possibly with a helping hand?), perhaps it will be academic.
they did seem to be working on a jet powered drone earlier on in the year alright.
Now it's just a giant crater!
Exploring it's use as a possible rock quarry.
is the timing of this strike, and all the talk of letting Storm Shadows off the leash last week, not a bit of a coincidence?
like someone said a page or 2 back, maybe Ukraine were given some sort of extra options in that regard, but quietly? maybe it’s allies have taken a page out of the Russians’ book when it comes to deniability?
Well from a self preservation point of view it makes a lot of sense. If there are Russian nuclear weapons on Belarussian territory and there is a popular uprising against Lukashenka, Putin can send troops in on the pretext of preserving their nuclear arsenal. The nuclear weapons on Belarussian soil has nothing to do with ever attacking or being attacked by a NATO country, it's all about domestic Belarussian politics. In that regard it was fairly smart of him, as it ensures he stays in power.
Looks like this news was missed in all the fireworks today
..
of course anyone knew, it wasn't really a secret. Back in 2018 this whole project was all over ruSSian news, bragging about this super-duper facility they built, no equivalent in the world they said, these concrete walls can withstand nuclear blast they said. The general overseeing this project even got his medal. What they did not take in consideration when building this depot - those pesky high-accuracy falling drone debris Ukrainians have created.
"reindeer herder" - I don't get the reference?
Referring to Shoigu according to his (faked) military ID.
