Are they afraid full support in election year loses them votes? Do they want to drag the war out into year 4 or 5 to inflict maximum damage on Russia while sacrificing Ukrainians? Or do they just not give a ****.
….
The Ukraine war is not a big election topic in the US, the Democrats and Biden simply have other priorities right now, though I do believe Biden and Dems in general are behind Ukraine, but people there care more about illegal immigration, jobs, and cost of living
I wouldn’t be so quick to tut tut at Americans, them and the Brits helped at crucial points in this war and are the ones who keep hearing no/nein/non from us in Europe on vital issues like handing over 300bn of Russian assets to Ukraine or tightening sanctions (or for that matter enforcement of sanctions)
It’s only a matter of time before Russian rockets/drones hit a vital piece of infrastructure in Ukraine and any number of their nuclear plant goes Fukushima without cooling
Maybe then EU will wake up
Edit: typo
We have an American visitor home at the moment , and thats exactly how he describes, with the national debt being the main topic.
Meantime European banks and companies continue to operate in Russia business as usual
Depressing.
Or maybe the reality is more complex than what can fit in a tweet?
The 60bn for Ukraine was never going to provide 60bn in aid. Much of it will go directly to the pentagon to replace the donated equipment.
Also, originally it was suppose to cover 12 months but it will end up covering ~18 months (April 24 to November 25). So the headline looked like Ukraine would receive 5 billion a month when in reality it will be probably closer to a billion, with some of that paying for weapons that won't be delivered for years.
There is a limited supply of Atacams. This is widely known. The glide bombs didn't seem to be very effective as Russia was jamming them.
It does seem strange that more Bradleys haven't been sent but maybe they feel like the money would be better spent else where? We have very little info to be making armchair general calls on.
Theres 1000s of Bradley’s lying in storage ready to be scrapped.
None of it makes sense.
It is the back channels that are driving things.
That bad eh?
As if you could believe them in the first place.
I was talking to a cousin last week who is in the hedge fund business in NY and he said yep Ukraine isnt on the radar over there
He hasn’t been seen in over a year as he was somehow tied in whole Wagner thing
Being an incompetent and corrupt general in Russia is dangerous
But being competent is even more dangerous
So the US has perfectly working Bradleys that they could sell for billions but are just going to scrap them for a laugh? Maybe there is more to the story that you have read
While Russia exhausts its Soviet era stockpiles the US still has loads, and then there's the whole Iraq and Afghanistan era surplus of more modern conventional weaponry. Passing stuff onto Ukraine in some instances may even be easier than scrapping.
What's most interesting though is the Ukraine's mastery of drones as part of infantry weaponry.
In this regard Ukraine is now the cutting edge of territorial warfare.
I suppose in terms of diverting Russia's attention from the front lines it hasn't really worked.
But they had other aims such as morale boost, embarrassing Putin and capturing Russian POWs who could be exchanged. And causing massive damage to Russian infrastructure and supply chains.
Let's see what happens next
Why do I keep feeling like this is Russia's last role of the dice, with it's current forces.
It smacks of them not actually having the manpower to protect their border and this is it without conscription, which would really threaten Putin's grip
While yes the US can do a lot more
At end of the day they won’t be the ones impacted if there is a Chernobyl or Fukushima style disaster like could have happened after a Russian strikes few days ago
Beside targeting a dam to flood millions in Kiev they also attacked remaining nuclear plants and surrounding infrastructure
Europe needs to **** wake up
Those 300bn of seized Russian state assets locked up in Brussels which EU and Germany doesn’t want to give to Ukrainians can end this war
I've been crowing about this for the past few years. The threat to nuclear power stations should be reasonable grounds for NATO to take back the power plants and dams in occupied areas. Let Putin moan as much as he wants, just take them and let the UN or someone secure them.
Yes, that and keeping the foot on Russia's oil jugular will eventually bring Putin down.
Correct tho we in Europe are not helping
Yes. Doesn't make sense sanctions and yet we keep dealing with Russia.
It will take decades for Russia to recover from this war, regardless of the outcome. If they win eastern Ukraine will become a nature reserve because they won't have the money to do anything with it. And they won't be able to live in the cities they destroyed.
Just looking at beautiful pictures from of Provatorsk.
To think in a few weeks Russia will be pounding it to rubble and it will end up looking like hell.
Like Bakhmut and Avdivka.
Utterly depressing what Russia are allowed get away with. All just seems normal now.
Such wanton, pointless destruction at this stage. It's clear Vlad isn't going to win… he's just continuing on now because he's backed himself into a corner and has nowhere else to run other than admit his mistake and negotiate. I really hope Russia are hit with massive reparations which will be actually enforced by the West.
It must be soul destroying to see your home, your town/ city village - where you've grown up, made memories, carved out a life, friendships, built industry, farms etc. all turned to rubble for nothing other than one man's bloody hubris. I hope he dies screaming.
Well........fcuk.
I would rather see them destroyed than let Russia have them.
Disaster. Only 5 F16’s left and worst of all the pilot died.
Bad news about the pilot.
