Original thread:
Some people maintain we have made no progress since Neanderthal times. They were healthy and content. We are sick and half mad.
Well that's probably the most stupid thing I've read today.
If he tells Trump he'd be as well off emailing Putin the plans himself.
Something needs to happen here. Not good at all.
Russian soldiers captured in Kursk.
🙄🙄
Ukraine still has to fight with one hand tied behind their back!!
Ridiculous situation!!
Considering their Donbass front is showing signs of collapse this is insane.
While I see the logic in your argument. We have to weigh up the real risk that instead of just being consumed by China, Russia may fragment into several countries. Since the fall of the USSR, Russia has been in a state of shrinking.
Several rouge nations, armed with Nuclear Weapons is, I think more worrying than 1 big nation armed with Nuclear Weapons.
I've said it elsewhere on this thread, but I'll say it again. This war could spell the end for the Russia we know. They have put themselves into a position they are incapable of walking out of. They (the Russian government) are not going to win the war, and they can not show signs of weakness to their people... which puts a peace deal out of the question.
China is more happy being an economic power. Military conflicts can backfire, and cause a lot of native tension/resentment to boil over into open rebellion. Something which the Chinese government wants to avoid. That said, it is building an impressive Naval fleet, and being bullish in the near by waters. A lot of that will be optics for its poputo think they are strong and safe... as they use Military vessels against Philippines fishing boats.
The US has spent something daft like less then 3% of its military budget to Ukraine, and that has been enough to virtually wipe out the Russian military. China will be watching this, and weighing up how it would fare... The Chinese Government are a bit more grounded than Putin's cabal, so will be very reluctant to get into a conflict with the US.
Obviously This is not the thread for this discussion but sustaining old people is going to be a bigger issue than sustaining billions.
Not the thread for it. It may be stupid to you. But you will go a long way to match the utter stupidity of the “one car per village “ lettuce on the windowsill “ ideas of our dear green leader.
Of all the threads on boards, you pick one on the Russian-Ukraine war to have a go at Eamon Ryan?
I blame zv2 for putting up the picture of the two koreas. That got me triggered.
Absolutely moronic statement, you sound like a paranoid anti-science Trump or Nigel Farage supporter
Another hit.
Why would it be a bad thing if Russia was to split into its republics? I can see benefits from that. Mafia-ridden Moscow and St. Petersburg would no longer be able to siphon off the petro-roubles from the resource rich republics. There is no increased nuclear threat, Moscow would retain control of the nuclear arsenal, the same way that Russia retained them when the USSR split apart. Most of the world would benefit from a weakened Russia.
Considering the relentless progress being made in the Donbass by Russia, I think that if the Democrats win in November, providing A10s to Ukraine should be a top priority. Like the F16s, it will probably take 2 years before they could be deployed. Those 2 years would give Ukraine a chance to gain some air superiority over the front line and allow the A10 to operate. We would all hope that this war won't still be going on in 2 years time. But if it turns out that it is, then the impending arrival of A10s would be a major morale boost for the Ukrainians.
Another one
USSR did split into 15 states and nukes were not an issue as Moscow had control of the codes and US pressured one of the states Ukraine to hand over nukes plus the program to use warhead materials in civilian reactors (atoms for peace program) ontop of various treaties to cut down on arsenals and inspections
If Russian Federation splinters it be the same all over again except this time it won’t be just the US applying pressure but also China, France and UK for the arsenal to be transferred to one of the splinters let’s say Moscow Peoples Republic, as non proliferation is one thing all the existing nuclear states have in common
But anyways Russia needs to fall apart first, dealing with the fallout (ha) already has a playbook in place
Let's just hope this war isn't still going on in two years time, but I guess two years ago we would have said the same.
At some stage something major surely has to change to make a decisive difference, the question is what and when
There really isn't any fault lines left for Russia to split down.
They might lose Belarus and some Stans to unfriendly governments but most of the "republics" inside Russia are too poor and rural to go it alone. Chechnya I suppose could erupt again if they oust the current leadership.
Your umbrella categorizing of peoples opinions is what’s absolutely moronic. Absolute asinine stupidity to think that being less than enthusiastic about Green policies automatically means pro trump/ farage . wtf ??? Is this what political debate has come to??
Yes that's it exactly extreme reaction from either side is the standard engagement point
The silly snipping at people is now a daily recurrence, just report it and move on
Christ. Can we not start this again?? If a poster annoys you that much just put them on ignore. If you've a problem with a post, flag it to the mods. There are some interesting posts just above yours relevant to the actual thread topic, but we're all now going to get derailed into talking about the Green Party.
You didn't say you're "less than enthusiastic" about Green policies (which is perfectly fine), you said it's a veiled attempt to create communism, which is an absolutely ridiculous statement frequently echoed by right wing populist extremists
Pro Ukranian sentiment encompasses many shades of the political spectrum. Just because you say X does not automatically make you Y. That sort of discourse is extremely childish. I have absolute zero interest in getting into a green policy debate on this thread. Some of the posters here have very binary views . Sometimes a mirror needs to be held up to that.
Get em young, that’s North Korean grade indoctrination of kids right there
Yes I’m anti green agenda Green Party/policies. 100%. I think it’s worse than communism . My local landscape is a hellscape of giant windmills and sodden re- wetted bog land where people once used have meaningful work. That does not make me a right wing populist not even remotely. I despise right wing populism
That's all fine and dandy, and you're absolutely entitled to your views. But its a discussion for another thread.
Back on topic…
Updates from Kursk in mainstream media seem to have gone quiet over the past few days… anyone have reliable insights as to what's happening on the ground? Ditto Belgorod.
I also see our resident Orwell Rd. troll had a pop at a poster who put up a Twitter link suggesting most missiles and drones were successfully shot down by Ukrainian AA… anything on that?
It’s been three weeks, the Kursk area continues to grow to 1300km^2
E38 highway closed to civilians as Ukrainian drones are busy roaming along it
Russians continue to dig in a panic trenches about 20KM behind current lines
Putin ordered “issue resolved by October 1st” tho he didnt specify the year
