The political trajectory Musk is on, there's a non-zero chance he'd actually go. He's evidently been on the lookout for something to mend his bruised ego after his mother got him out of that MMA bout with Zuckerberg.
Hopefully what the Germans do in private work arounds differs considerably from their public utterances. They will be no friend of Europe otherwise. Who gives a toss about Hungary or other pro Russian states in that region.
There are reports that Musk gave the cybertruck to Kadryov. Is that not a breach of sanctions, and shouldn't the cnt be done for it?
Is there a chance that he might lash out and do something stupid? It's a bit like NK Kim having the West on edge as he might do damage to Seoul, but then it's lights out for him.
I would love both cnts be done for it, but Kadryov loves publicity: I very much doubt Musk gave it to him, he probably arranged to have it shipped to himself illegally.

If he ignores it he'll gain some important settlements in Donetsk for huge losses while losing a lot more of Kursk. He could end up losing an important settlement or two in Kursk such as Rylsk or Lgov but I can't see him ignoring Kursk that long.
He's in a tough situation. Ukrainian intel suggested Russia wanted a new mobilisation this winter but to continue their attacks and retake Kursk they probably need to do it now. So they're in a tough situation. Good on Ukraine taking the initiative.

You'd imagine the best plan of attack rather than head deeper in to Russia would be to force their way south east hopefully taking Belgorod which is a major supply channel and a launching pad for attacks on Kharkiv, also opening a route to get behind Russian defense lines and flank them from the north. The best the Russians could do would be heavily mine this front which would also mean cutting themselves off from Northern supply lines even if Ukraine withdrew back to their own borders.
It would also have the effect of isolating their troops trying to reclaim the Russian areas from those occupying Donbas making co-ordinated support almost impossible
I don't think anyone knows the plan except the top brass in Ukraine. Zelensky did mention their counteroffensive plans last year that they shared with allies was leaked to Russia, so this year they have numerous plans they could implement and why this was such a surprise to allies.
So as you mention, that could be a very effective tactic. They could also withdraw when Russian mounts a more robust defense and just breach the Russian border at another location. Kinda like a cat and mouse game, but Ukraine inflicting more and more casualties on Russia, making them take more men and equipment off the line elsewhere.
I certainly don't believe it will end with Kursk, this is just a starting point.
