Please use this thread to continue discussing the war in Ukraine.
All mod instructions from the previous thread remain in force here
Original thread:
a) the first comment was tongue in cheek (though after what Prizhogin did? - see what I did there)
b) second comment was about the russians who verifiably surrendered (including one group that shot the hostages and then surrendered)
Neither back up the strawman you've created.
That's about as sensible a statement as taking a bite out of an apple, looking at an orange and proclaiming that it will also taste like an apple because it's round, edible and fell off a tree. You've taken the loosest of connections between two events and arrived at a conclusion that, unsurprisingly, ties in with your views as to how this war is going over the past couple of years.
In summary: it's difficult to take your views seriously.
This will make Russia's options even more limited to help in Kursk.
you lost me, you are aware of battles like the Battle of the Bulge , an offense at a weak spot against the run of play squandering scarce resources while other fronts are weakening. Correct me if I am wrong but the Russians have air superiority in the area and the Russians have reserves , I can only see one outcome here
How did they so easily rollover the border and capture more land than Russians managed in a year if they were “on a limb”
Could it be that despite all the propaganda we are being fed by Russian manure amplifiers it is the Russians who were found to be “exposed in un-defensible positions”
One can drive 6 brigades of to quote Russian ambassador to Ireland “10000 to 12000 raiders” through the glaring holes in the Russian narratives you like to keep furthering
How many reserves do they have ?
What sort of training do the have ?
How well equipped are they ?
What is their morale like ?
I don't remember the Germans in the Battle of the Bulge hitting multiple Allied airfields back from the frontline.
The Germans attacked taking advantage of poor weather, so Allied air cover couldn't operate.
There's clear skies over Ukraine, what's air force doing???
You're the one who invoked this example, it just demonstrates how entirely wrong this point is. You lost yourself.
Sounds the too good to be true. But the panic and paranoia on display here is still a very good thing.
Battle of the Bulge was a hail Mary from an army and nation that was falling apart.
That war was already in a when not if phase.
Huge gains for Ukraine on Russian land in the last 24 hours .
What inflation doing
And today on “ordinary Russians”
One thing is certain the invasion of Russia will knock the Russia Stonk mentality severely. A third front may open up with revolting Russians against Putin.
Lets see if this turns out to be true
Russia invaded Ukraine with initially little to no resistance in Feb22 (despite Ukraine being warned over and over … Ukraine is doing the same with little to no resistance albeit on a much, much smaller scale… they both drove over the border pretty much unchallenged. We all know what a cluterfuck it became for the Russians
Its already unsustainable for a long time …But they are still gaining ground
Sometimes bridges just fall down. It's as natural as falling out a window or a building blowing up.
Damn gravity
Contains interview with ISW
Major point made there “Putin spending a lot of energy on painting Russia as big with infinite resources but Kursk has shown otherwise”
And “Putin is not thinking long term, he is blindly focused on convincing the International community that Ukrainians should lose their right to self determination” and goes on to list numerous time bombs for Russian economy and stability Putin has created most of which are now irreversible
Does Russia care though ? 600.000 casualties reported and no one bats an eyelid in Russia… does some farmland and small settlements lost to Ukraine going to finally tip the balance in Russia? … I doubt it
Russia doesn't have air superiority. They sometimes have favourable air conditions in limited tactical areas, but they do not control the skies.
Ukraine also has Reserves. Global Firepower puts them not a lot behind Russia:
https://www.globalfirepower.com/active-reserve-military-manpower.php
IISS' Military Balance 2024 has them above Russia, but that includes paramilitary forces and isn't open source. The point being that the line that Russia has unlimited reserves and that Ukraine is running out of troops it, you guessed it, a Kremlin lie. A widely repeated and adopted Kremlin lie, including by serious newspapers and governments, but still a lie.
Luckily Ukraine is better prepared for it than Russia was and their aims are much more modest.
Although the bridge has been blown, the only way there are 700 troops surrounded is if they have lost the ability to walk across 2 fields by themselves.
If they didn’t “care” then why did the largest country in world with no shortage of land or natural resources cared enough to have started a war to capture the Eastern European equivalent of West Virginia rust belt
Your posts are a prime example of the Kremlin finally developing a narrative a week after this started, there is a clear attempt to use their network to downplay the importance of the events
The podcast with ISW interview posted few posts up paints a completely different picture
Does anyone know what their aims are ?
The 4 aims are clearly outlined by head of Zelensky’s office of president here
He reiterated same to Newsweek and Mediazona
Do they care though ?? are the people of Russia revolting because of the atrocities their sons and fathers are facing in Ukraine ?… I don't see it. You ? … Why would this insignificant incursion have any negative impact on Putin's reign ?… I remember everyone saying that once Russia needed to resort to mobilization it would mean the end of Putin, the man is still there.
And stop linking my post to some Kremlin narrative ….. its silly to put it mildly. I am discussing the war, and there are many different angles and possible scenarios to discuss.
Russians don't care if their army murders civilians and takes towns in Ukraine, but now they've lost Russian territory. Even the Kremlin doesn't know how to respond - you have state officials calling the Ukrainian invasion being conducted by small groups of bandits and raiders, and all their trolls are waiting for the invasion to be over so that they can do their usual "what a pointless waste of life, the west is all to blame" drivel. But it's gone on for a couple of weeks now, which is hugely embarassing for Russia.
Thats waffle .. what positive impact will any of these point have ? can you elaborate ?

I always found that very strange during the opening days of the war. Russia could not achieve air superiority. Kinda a harbinger for Russia of the mess they were creating for themselves.
