The Russians were brainwashed for a lot longer than Germans (and for that matter Ukrainians who got a whole generation and half out of the Soviet mindset)
Putin is in power for 25 years now, they only had 6-7 years of “normalcy” in all of their sorry history form time they derived themselves from Kievan Rus, and even that was a clusterf@ck due to economic mess Soviet collapse left

I wouldn't call 100-200m a day quick. I'd call it being slaughtered for miniscule ground.

Was listening to a podcast on the telegraph earlier.
The situation towards Pokrosvk is not good. Since Russia broke through the weak defenses a few weeks ago they are moving along very quickly each day.
Hopefully Ukraine can counter with something soon.

I’m afraid this comparison does not quite hold water. I may have mentioned this before in this thread, I know I mentioned this in its predecessor, but even with the extremely nationalistic period that preceded it, both during the Weimar years and during the Kaiserreich, Germany had a generally well-developed civil society. Political discourse was robust, sometimes violent, especially during the Weimar years, but it was very much alive. Similarly, large parts of the population had received a mostly humanistic education, even with all the drill and jingoistic rhetoric leading up to and into World War 1. As such, the abhorrence of Hitler and his ideology was obvious to a lot of people. Even with a propaganda genius such as Goebbels at his disposal and playing expertly on the insulted German honour that stemmed from the Versailles treaty, the Nazis still were not able to get enough votes to gain a majority in the Reichstag, leading to the numerous manoeuvres and coalition agreement that got the Austrian NCO into the chancellery. Also, the entire Nazi period spanned only twelve years, so that even at the very end, there were millions of people who remembered the time before the war, before the “Machtergreifung”.
None of this is the case in Russia. The population there has been subjected to centuries of autocratic rule whether under the tsar, communism or now Putinism, a hyper-nationalist education and the nearly complete elimination of any attempt at building a civil society. It’s not so much that the “ordinary” Russian supports Putin’s actions, though I believe that the percentage of true believers is higher than we’d like to believe, it’s more a case of that there’s no use in complaining, so I won’t do it. From all that I’ve seen, the Russian populace is far more apathetic than what you’d see in a western country. I totally agree with you that this is no excuse to dehumanise them in any way, and I’m more than a little disgusted at some of the nicknames thrown the Russians’ way, but we should not kid ourselves into believing that the Russian population is somehow being held down purely against its will. There are far more apathetic supporters of the regime than we think. And for the time being, I don’t think we can allow ourselves the luxury of sympathising too much with the Russian population, not when that country is engaged in the biggest European land war since 1939!
Keep an eye on the Kursk nuclear power plant.
It'll force Putin to have battalions all along the border for defence. Stretching manpower away from the other battlefields.
Ukraine have had to do this since the start stretching themselves. While Putin left his own side unprotected with all concentrated on the active fronts.
Now Ukraine is playing Putin at his own game and seeing what hand he's playing. So far Putin has nothing. They're walking in.
It's a very strange development, especially with using western IFV's, I guess with the restrictions being relaxed, they can do little incursions rather than relying on artillery.

Absolutely love this. Make the Russians drop their bombs on Russia. I'd love if Ukraine could grab a few villages for a week or two. Let Russia level the place then retreat.

I never listen to Roger Waters or Roger Putin.
While the Russian opposition to Putin (what's left of them) might someday be people who can provide better leadership for Russia if the current set of ex KGB/ex Soviet military gangsters ever fall, they should (IMO) not be listened to about fighting Russia/Putin - i.e. ignore them when they are burbling about how the Western sanctions should be restricted to the regime leadership and connected parties, or how the West should really open up the borders wide for any fleeing Russians etc.
In general, I ignore people I don't agree with. Rog and co are on that list. I won't even look at the video.
The Maidan Revolution were the protests in Ukraine that led to the ousting of former president Yanukovych. Referring to it as the "Maidan coup" is just repeating Russian propaganda.
