If you took away the "ehs" and the tripping over his words, the questions wouldn't take very long.
Yeah I ended up skipping forward until I heard Foley talking. I get unusually uncomfortable with those self pontificating "questions" that are a soapbox for his own opinion. Ger Gilroy on off the ball pioneered and mastered the art.
Its basically a random stream of consiciousness, he doesn't know where its going or when it will end.
Murph must have a world record in how long it takes to ask a question. He takes the longest route possible get to the question, he was asking a question today to Michael Foley and I say it took well over a minute for him to ask it
Joe O’Callaghan seems to be the go to for every topic now
He’s a good loser, in fairness to him (unlike Jamie Wall, who was a disgrace last week).
But he’s a terribly smug winner.
I can empathise with Murph on today's episode. Pretty much how I felt after Kerry lost in the semis. Always harder to take when you play quite poorly
Shay Walsh drove a coach & 4 through his "Walsh is saving a big one" theory.
In fact that preview pod had a massive stench of barstool analysis.
Surprised at McConville who's usually excellent.
I didn’t have a dog in the fight yesterday, but Murph would have been insufferable if Galway had won
Olympics are the athletics equivalent of "senior hurling".
Completely different to Europeans.
Barney Ronay posted the most C+P article possible on the Guardian today about this being two weeks where the Olympics has to save itself from some sort of existential threat or somesuch. I do wonder if the lads get tried of playing to the same hand-wringing gallery the whole time.
Everyone knows the dark side of all of this, but just like the WC and the Euros we still absolutely love it and will continue to.
She has gone off the boil since her Euros win. Finishing 10th in her last 2 races
Even at her beat form she would be 4th or 5th favourite for a medal. 3 Africans, Hassan, Muir are better than her to name a few.
Add in Australian one Jessica Hull who ran 3.51 ish recently. And 2k world record. Never know. But it's very competitive in her field now
I was under the impression Ciara Mageean had a good chance of a medal but just had a look at the odds and she's best price 50/1 and 7th favourite 😯
Not sure why I'm posting that here apart from that she's a friend of the show.
Enjoyed the chat with Oisín and his buddy.
Hold on, are people suggesting that Dunphy‘s politics aren’t always 100% consistent?? 🤯
Hey, who knows?
What you are saying about his attitude to the divorce referendum checks out:
Campaigns against divorce: later gets divorced.
dunphy was a no on the divorce referendum, I think he was telling waters he was a no voter because he was a no voter.
Either way, it was a truly spectacular meltdown from Waters
I suppose if the person you bring on to talk about the no side calls you a bollocks, tells you to f off, and storms out after being asked a few simple questions - and then after that you have a civil conversation recorded for the same episode, with someone representing the yes side - well, then, it might possibly make you reconsider your position - I dunno?
I remember Dunphy saying, rather weakly, to Waters that he was a no voter, as Waters was flouncing off mid tantrum. I don't know how seriously to believe that. I felt it was just Eamon being Eamon and thinking of something in the heat of the moment to try to keep his guest happy.
I remember dunphy turning more to the yes side as that campaign wore on and more of the personal stories came out etc
Good spot.
I remember that as well, he pleaded this as Waters told Dunphy to f… off.
Give the listener a bif of credit.
Really cool to hear Eamonn mention Robin Friday at the start of the podcast. This guy's life could fill a 6 episode series at least.
Jamie wall being miserable
Yeah, Murph was just waiting for Ken to finish his stream of consciousness rather than properly joining in. His tone was a little bit like it was when there was anti-GAAgo emails.
Ken saying it was his birthright to watch hurling. I was impressed with how easy the bullshít flowed. Murph wasn't biting unfortunately
I know Ken was on a wind up but his take on the hurling was funny, also Jamie saying every gobsh1te in Ireland would be moaning about the grab all association if the match went straight to a replay.
At this stage they just want to bash the FAI in any way they can, its becoming a really tough listen.
It's infuriating to hear Ken and Eamon (on this occasion) ask why we couldn't have gone with a homegrown manager as if the last few years never happened! Bradley and Duff being mentioned as if they have anywhere close to the international experience of HH is madness.
HH might not be great, but he has a lot of work to do to be worse than Kenny.
why would they go to a replay after 70? Extra time makes sense.
Dunphy mentions abortion rights in the US but didn't he tell John Waters in that infamous interview that he was a No voter?
