Hi all,
Just giving a timeline from my experience, I'm due to start the role very soon!
I'm in the area of Wexford, in the top 5 OOM -
Best of luck to everyone, don't get disheartened if you're still waiting.
can you please share your experience joining Garda Siochana.
Hey all,
Does anyone have a rough idea of where they are up to on the OOM for placements for Dublin? As in the post garda vetting & offer OOM.
Also curious has anybody actually started in their position and if so how are you getting on / have you any feedback? And can you give a breakdown of what the total timeline of the process was.
Thanks, have a good weekend!
19 weeks (4.5 months) since Garda Vetting application was sent, still no response.…
I'm in the same boat still, I did reach out an email and they said it just takes a long time. So we'll wait and see
I’m still waiting to hear about an interview for Carlow (top 5 OOM)
I’m assuming there’s still other counties that haven’t started the interview process yet too
Another week gone, no updates
Hi all I haven't been active on here in a while due to almost giving up on this competition at this stage 🤨 but out if curiosity, has anyone from Wicklow been called yet?
I'm top 15 for Wicklow and so far, nothing at all. I've already given up on this 🤷♀️ I hope they are more efficient than this for other stuff!
Has anyone heard anything this week?
I was expecting that quite possibly nothing would be happening over the summer months, I've resigned myself to maybe not hearing anything until September or October.
I could be wrong though 😀
Nope - still waiting! - Could well be that it's the summer and it's causing even more delay with holidays maybe? I'm well past the initial 12 weeks vetting at this point now and all they've said is it's a long process
So many obnoxious Gardai out there looking down their nose at admin staff. Steer clear.
Summer tends to be a busy time for them: summer camp staff, sports clubs etc need quick Garda vetting, as well as staff starting in schools in September.
I've been waiting for vetting for over 5 months now, so my questions is whether it's ever going to come (or if it will come before the 2 year competition runs out).
have my interview tomorrow. Anyone have any last minute tips? Did they ask questions about the guards specifically (I had a county council interview recently and they asked if I knew how many councillors there were in my county)
much appreciated!!
Worked there before - most on the beat/new entrant gardai were fine, its the older/higher up generation - (not many of them to be fair )were a bit difficult
why did you leave, if you don’t mind me asking?
tco - got offered permanent elsewhere- woukd like to go back
Just said I would post my timeline for people still waiting
I interviewed on 9th Feb
OOM after interview was 7
Received Job offer on 19th July.
My garda vetting was extremely quick- It came back in in 3 weeks!
Now waiting for reference check to be done
Congrats!
Congratulations that is brilliant news. Would you mind me asking what county was it please ?
Thank you! It's kilkenny
Thank you for sharing, I wish you every success in your new role.
Your patience has paid off!
How does that work, I am in the top 3 for that county and my vetting is still processing. It's been months for me 🤔
based on this, why would the person who was number 7 have their offer?
wouldn’t they have to wait to process me being within the top 3? Would they do batches of offers maybe?
given it’s been so many months waiting for my vetting, is email the only way to contact them or how can I find out more?
Everyone who gets through the interview gets their vetting started (or else you'd be waiting a million years to start), and some people's vetting comes back faster. For example, if they've only ever lived in one location, if they've never lived abroad etc. If you think about it, it would make no sense making you wait six months for no reason if, for example, the person just above you had lived in Australia and Timbuktu etc for a long time. Email is best, yep.
I thought it would work like them not moving past the person in position 2 for example until they were fully completed or had refused the position. Then they would move to 3 and so on.
Why would you hold up several applicants for no reason every time someone higher up had lived overseas?
These things just take time.
Because of what this person said
This means that if your OoM is (for example) 35, then 34 people need to have their Garda vetting completed, then consecutively be assigned a position, start date, location; decide to accept/reject the placement; reply with their decision.
