Project 2025 reads like a prequel to The Handmaids Tale
Apropos of nothing, but I was speaking to one of my Russian friends this morning, and the temp where she is currently is 37.5, and no end in sight. The temps started to rise in May, and have been steadily rising since, so it's safe to say that they haven't peaked yet. But uncomfortable though it is, the big dread is the coming winter. They fear literally everything..but especially the unknown. War is not mentioned, but it's clear that everything revolves around it.
I was thinking of further into the future.(20-30 years -a blink of an eye in the life of a nation)
Global warming affects everyone in the world and they will all have to join the new economy -even oil states like Russia.
And rightly so!! and the sooner the better.
It's war. It would be naive to think the good guys act with restraint at all times given what has been visited upon them.
Having said that, the vast vast majority of war crimes are carried out by Russians.
I don't have such faith in human nature, only a short time ago our pre teens were all planeteers behind Greta, lecturing us old fogies for destroying their futures.
Now they're impulse buying multiple disposable outfits off Shein, now that Greta isn't trending anymore. The generations aren't so different
This is concern trolling 101.
Russian forces systematically torture, murder, rape Ukrainian POWs. Russian forces deliberately target civilians on a daily basis. Thousands of incidents have been recorded.
Ukrainian forces, in direct contrast, go to extremes to avoid civilian casualties, they treat Russian POWs well, they offer programs to help Russian soldiers surrender, they limit actions on Russian soil.
Putin's supporters on Boards have been frustrated by this, so when they find an isolated incident, any incident they seize on it to suddenly act "concerned" about it, whilst ignoring the thousands of recorded atrocities committed by Russian forces. It's an instant tell.
Ukraine has bombs too
F16s at work?
Good, the more the merrier…now the US or others who are limiting what Ukraine can target need to cop themselves on and give Ukraine a free hand.
I've just read a brief outline of what Project 2025 plans, and it needs to be killed stone dead, right now, and this heritage foundation needs to be dismantled and its founders / leadership tried and jailed for treason.
Who are we to judge? It is their future and they have a front row seat.
We should listen to them.
And maybe us old fogies shouldn't get to decide their future.
Tonight on Ukrainian Topgear.
So much for principles when you can get fab-luss dresses for pocket money, maybe jet off to catch the next Taytay concert.
Seriously, anyone who says it's nothing to worry about is either a liar or a moron.
You seem happy to judge.I hope you are happy in your petty world.
My recommendation back in 2022 was to accept the no to NATO deal.
Continuing the war now means further loss of territory and life which is stupid. Russia is too big and NATO doesn't want a nuclear war.
I'm glad the Irish free state did not attempt to fight the UK to regain the North of Ireland. Looking at Ukraine's experience, our deal with the British doesn't look that bad.
Right now, I'd say to Ukraine sit down with the Russian's and get the best deal you can. Obviously not my call but that'd be my advice as a person who's never been to Russia/ Ukraine and just looking as objectively as possible at the situation.
What NATO deal in 2022 are you talking about?
I think evidence of the trend of Russia's collapse is evident by the rate of soviet stock depletion.
It could be said that decay really started when Putin took soviet era long range bombers out of retirement to conduct long range patrols far beyond Russia's borders.
Crises happen slowly at first, and then all at once.
TThe Irish free state .........jasus it's a few decades since any Irishman used that phrase...... i think the unionists use it as a way to annoy the Irish........…your completely our of you depth laddie

This kind of **** needs to be publicly called out and stopped instead of given the what-about treatment.
Yes we all here know the Russians are much worse but it only takes a handful of disgusting incidents to turn the opinion of a public, especially those who are not following so closely or are susceptible to russian/far-right propaganda. Saying we are better off supporting the side with dozens of murderers Vs the side with thousands won't cut it for a lot of people, in particular those who want to see "peace".
With the number of Ukrainians murdered by putin's terrorists it is amazing the Ukrainians are being so restrained in their fight against putin's empire and not striking at civilian targets like putin's forces are doing on a daily basis in Ukraine. With the numbers fighting for Ukraine who have had close relatives murdered under putin's orders I would be very slow to criticise if a few of them were found to have not been able to control their aggression towards the invading forces. I wont however be reading anything posted here by a disingenuous putin supporter who tries to claim neutrality and being objective while ignoring the wrong doings of the aggressor in putin's terrible war of conquest and the terrorist activities of putin's cowards. Their claims that Ukraine are not content to make peace with a war criminal who has ordered the deaths of thousands and millions of lives to be destroyed to satisfy his delusions have no basis in reality and should be ignored like the rest of the pro putin h******it they bring to this thread.
"My recommendation back in 2022"
Not bad for a poster with a join date of February 2024
Irish bronze age people who lived in places like Craggaunowen understood the importance of planning for the future. I remember seeing a clay pile that was hip height there, it was filtered, refined and packed be to used for the makers grandchildren. The nature is in us to plan ahead but due to globalisation we are forced to take into account far away troubles and we're easily distracted, understandably.
Social media has been underestimated in its impact on us, it is the ultimate time compression of ideas and thoughts. Imagine if Hitler or Stalin had that ability? Trump and Putin do.
I have relations whose heads have been twisted by brain rot on social media, keep an eye on your loved ones it can fester in minds anywhere.
The minute we are born we are in a relay race and we should be careful we aren't handing off a stick of dynamite.
Based on crapping out a defective link? Do better.
This one.

There's lots on it if you google around. Many commentators maintain that the US wrecked the deal via the Boris Johnson intervention.
I was so upset at the time that it was allowed to fall apart. Nobody can trust Putin was the refrain. Who can trust the USA or UK? Anyway, we'll never know, I keep reading stuff that Putin cannot be trusted from USA sources, the same USA which was involved in 108 wars since WW2.

We'll never know because peace was not given a chance. I'm guessing some people will just ignore the fact that Russia kept saying arming Ukraine and making it part of NATO was a security red line for them propr to the war. Everything was unprovoked. Putin would be in Lisbon now if the April 2022 peace deal was allowed to pass, etc.
Honours leaving cert history back in the nineties, so not exactly a historian!
You can read about the treaty negotiations here if you've gone a bit rusty too.

Worked for me. Here it is again linked.

Edit: Not working, just copy paste if you want.
ya i watched a video yesterday on the war losses and the russians have surpassed the 1k T-72 destroyed, abandoned, disabled or non recoverable mark. they are now dipping into the T-64 junk pile and having to train conscripted men from the hinterlands to operate them, poor bastards at least they'll get a quick death.
Imagine Ukraine not wanting to be part of Russia and needing support to fight off an invasion(and earlier destabilizations).
Ah ,what the fuc ?Who cares about them .?Let them just be displaced to the West.
What's that ?You don't want them?Russia will "take care" of them?
Maybe ,like Trump you trust Putin over his own intelligence agencies?
