Actually, I'm not too sure that he is still "shielding" the people of Moscow and St.Petersburg… Certainly, the elites are still a protected species, (currently maybe not the military elites,,,they are an endangered species at the moment) but I'd say that quietly, conscription is taking place within these two cities amongst "classes" of people. The ones less likely not to make too much fuss about it and can safely be ignored.
Putin created (right after his “election”) the Moscow and St Petersburg military districts a few weeks ago, the men here won’t be “shielded” for long
Another reason Russians should be banned from travelling to Western civilised countries, the Russians doing the travelling be from these areas and it would remind them that there is an illegal war on in their names
Anyways… the purges will continue until morale improves
Good news it seems
This maybe worth pursuing, getting putin and co to the table. What he is looking for is a start point that cud be countered with less of that area than he wants plus Ukraine fully joins EU and NATO. And if this is a buffer zone there is some sort of UN mission there? Also re likes of crimea .. something like Northern Ireland .. a Gfa thing where everyone has right to be who they want and at some pt a vote held as to whether it wants to be part of russia or ukraine/eu.
Add to that, Russia pays for all the rebuild etc.
I dont see anything wrong with decent talks like this but russia does not get all it wants by long shot. At least its a start
Absolutely. Negotiations are needed asap to stop this madness
It's just a way for Putin to say he would have stopped the war, but the evil nazis didn't want to negotiate. And maybe fool a few westerners into thinking Ukraine doesn't need any more support, since soon there will be peace negotiations. Russia lies.
And it was tried before, multiple times, only for Putin to break agreements, multiple times
Nothing short of immediate NATO membership or a UN presence right along whole border as a condition for ceasefire will do
Yeah, but Putin's preconditions for Negotiations are to conceed and withdraw from the full territory of four oblast that Russia "annexed".
Yip bur here is the big rub for putin. He negotiates for the current lines but gets offered less bak. The rest of ukraine is then a member of nato immediately. So if he fcks around and trys to take more he then be attacking nato which he wont. To an extent u have putin by the balls .. if he disagrees with that, all bets are off
If Putin wanted a ceasefire he can submit a proposal to the UN Security Council where UN enforce peace all along the border.
What we have right now is kite flying and groundwork being laid for his army of propagandists and useful idiots to blame everyone but Russia for the ongoing war he started
I watched the whole thing. It's…. illuminating. It just sounds like a meat grinder where they're sending men to die.
I think it might be for trumps benefit. If he wins in November, then he can say there's a peace deal and he'll withdraw all aid unless it's accepted. He can blame ukraine for wanting war.
Pushing the negoatiations now? Putin can have negotiations once he withdraws to the 1991 borders. Point 1 - Russia to pay for Ukrainian reconstruction.
It will be 3 years when Trump is inaugurated.
The first 3 years without Trump will decide things more than he can in any way.
He is whatever he is, not everything that is or has been, there is more to the world than him.
We agree. Under one condition. Immediate cessation of all Russian hostilities and withdrawal from Ukraine.
Russia can have peace tomorrow, nothing and no-one will stop them.
Until then all suggestions of "negotiations" are usually from disingenuous hypocrites and Kremlin hoors.
That fat **** Lavrov knows where the UN building in New York is, he is welcome to lodge a UN proposal for immediate security council consideration for immediate ceasefire and UN peacekeeping which I doubt anyone would vote against or veto.
Oh that’s right Putin doesn’t actually want peace now but breathing room to complete his internal purges before refocusing outwards again
Something about it here-
And now this..
This all seems very odd from when Russia was making gains last month and pushing UAF back.
I think its fair to say the Western aid finally arrived in large quantities?
What about repayments from Russia for the damage they've inflicted on the beautiful country of Ukraine?
Only a putinbot or Kremlin hoor wouldn't put that into the equation.
It looked that it was the launchers that were destroyed but the command and control vehicle was able to escape.
Cessation of hostilities and withdrawal from Ukraine are just the basic conditions that will allow for negotiations to take place in the first place.
Reparations and extradition of Putin and anyone else responsible for this illegal war to The Hague where they will be held responsible for their crimes, that would be a big part of the actual negotiations.
That's heart breaking to watch. F**k Putin. I hope he dies a screaming death ten times over for all the pain and horrors he's inflicted on Ukraine and his own citizens. How do you stand up to a regime like that?
It's for the domestic audience, make it look like it isn't him who wants this war. It's the evil West who only want war.
Absolutely no way would he negotiate.
Whats the Istanbul agreement? Is that the one where Ukraine isnt allowed join NATO?
The problem with this is that Putin's opening and non-negotiable position will be keeping all the land he's murdered his way across. That includes Kherson and Zaporizhzhia, two oblasts that Russia doesn't even control. But are now written into Russian law as Russia proper after their annexation in 2022. Crimea, Luhansk and Donbass won't even be up for discussion.
The second problem is any negotiation needs to be predicated on good faith between both parties. And, well, Putin is a liar quite simply. Negotiation is not a means to lasting peace for Putin. It's a tactic. Another step towards what he wants. Which is the removal of Ukraine as a sovereign state. We know this because he's said it so many times.
Negotiation may be needed. But not with Putins Russia.
Do you expect that Ukrainians should agree to further partition of their country?
Westerns discussing what would be acceptable terms always makes me feel uneasy. The people of Ukraine will decide their own fate as I've said many times. If they chose to fight to retake every inch of territory stolen, they should be backed by us without any more d**king around.
Apparently Gazprom is going downhill and Ukraine will keep targeting oil refineries no matter how much land Russia takes. Even as things stand now it will take Russia a long time to recover from this war.
Russia says it wants to negotiate, while simultaneously continues to re-draw international borders, unilaterally ….
It's all for show, they have no intention of stopping.
Would love to see it
This is the reason of the purges in the Russian military. Putin thinks that he is at risk of defenestration from the MOD side.
